IGN's Top 25 PS Vita Games

PlayStation Vita has a certain unearned stigma with some, that it doesn't have any games. Of course, anyone who has paid attention to Vita knows that the exact opposite is true: it has plenty of games, and plenty of great ones, to boot.

SpiralTear4231d ago

Nice choice on #1. Predictable, but still a solid choice.

dedicatedtogamers4231d ago

There are 25 games on the Vita? I say that as a happy Vita owner.

Anyway, I'm glad to see Vita picking up momentum. It's a great gaming device and gaming "journalists" have done a wonderful job of lying about it's games and turning people away from it. Uncharted Golden Abyss was/is one of the best games I've played on any platform in the last 3 years.

PoSTedUP4231d ago (Edited 4231d ago )

what is this, HighGN?? not one vita owner would agree wih this list. an 11 y/o would make a better list.

and i only say this because the vita doesnt have a lot of games, so its like virtually impossible to not make an even Semi-decent list, unless you were really trying hard not to. and this isnt anywhere near reasonable tbh. most of these games are crap. a lot of really good ones are missing, and the few good ones that are there just seem shuffeled in like a deck of cards. did an actual human being make this list? or was it computer generated?

dedicatedtogamers4231d ago

@ PoSTedUP

Well, Persona 4 Golden (a port) at the Number One spot should've tipped you off. IGN has never really been a big fan of the Vita. Oh, sure, they'll give a token good score to a few Vita games, but when it really matters (like giving a fair score to a new Vita IP) they pile on the hate like everyone else.

CalebZachary84114231d ago

Well I think Soul Sacrifice deserves a spot, and I also think Gravity Rush is too low. There are a few other fun games, Sonic Racing, Hot Shots Golf, Rayman Legends etc..

admiralvic4231d ago (Edited 4231d ago )

Horrible list, especially since it makes the Vita look like an awful system.

Like Dragon's Crown, Gravity Daze and Muramasa really should be higher, where as Guacamelee, Sound Shapes are hardly among the top 6 and 5 games on the system. In fact, I wouldn't even consider Sound Shapes among the top 25 games on the system! Ranking aside, this list is missing some obviously better games...

Rayman Legends should replace Origins. Especially since a lot / most of Origins is IN Rayman Legends by default.
Soul Sacrifice might not be the MH clone, system selling machine people wanted it to be... but it's certainly better than Tales from Space, Spelunky, Hotline Miami, Sound Shapes, Plants vs Zombies, Guacamelee, Velocity and really should be on the list.
Zero Escape is interesting and certainly deserves a spot if The Walking Dead deserves one.
Disgaea 3 is an amazing RPG, which also includes all the DLC from the console version. Sure the story was trash, but that is certainly a game that deserves a spot a lot more than some of the games listed with SS.

If IGN really thinks games like Tales from Space, yet another Plants vs Zombies port and Sound Shapes are better than Disgaea 3, Soul Sacrifice and Zero Escape, then I think I made the right choice in not reading their reviews.

TheFirstClassic4231d ago

Yeah Zero Escape definitely deserves a spot, and Gravity Rush should be in the top 10 at least.

TongkatAli4231d ago (Edited 4231d ago )

Boom! Nailed it, well said.

In my opinion Gucamelee is really good and should be in the top five. Its my favorite indie game right next to Rocketbirds Hardboiled and Hotline Miami.

Lovable4231d ago

Glad the best game of all time Persona 4 is No.1 on the list. No denying how awesome it is.

CanadianTurtle4231d ago

This is why the Vita is not selling too well.

Look at the games on the list, there's quite a few re-released ports, and some of them on the list are already available on the PS3. It's not really something specifically built for the PSVita. You can already get these on previous systems.

They have games in there like Velocity Ultra and Plants VS Zombies, but I'm sorry, these games don't show off the hardware.

Sony made a great system. But there are very few games that use it's hardware to it's max potential

admiralvic4231d ago

"This is why the Vita is not selling too well. "

Nah! This is why informed gamers don't care what IGN says. However, uninformed gamers will look at this list and see the Vita is a wasteland, which might result in lower sales. Hence why I said it makes the Vita look awful in my other post.

Some examples of this...

Gravity Daze had some issues and short comings, but it is one of the most interesting and unique titles on the Vita. Though despite being one of the most worthwhile experiences on the Vita, it's instead listed as the worst of the best losing out to games like PS All-Stars.
PS All-Stars might be a fun fighter, but it's HARDLY the best fighter on the Vita, yet it is the only fighter represented on the list.
Killzone Mercenary might have a short campaign, but has a fantastic "true to console" multiplayer experience, but it's still seen as a lesser game than Hotline Miami. Like I love Dokuro, but it's not among the top 10 games on the Vita...
Rayman Origins beats out Legends, even though Legends has most of Origins in it.
Guacamelee and Sound Shapes were interesting and fun games, but you have to question a sites creditability when they beat out most of Sony's AAA titles and even more so when you figure they made it on the list before... WipEout 2048, Soul Sacrifice, Rayman Legends, Disgaea 3, Both Ninja Gaidens, Dead or Alive 5 Plus, Assassins Creed Liberation (Owned, but didn't play. I heard it was good though...), Guilty Gear, BlazBlue, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, SF X Tekken (the amount of content this game had, with the frame rate was impressive in its own right!), Zero Escape (this game literally won GOTY's last year...), Altelier series, Ragnarok (fun game, certainly more deserving than some of these digital games),

Hicken4231d ago

You can't blame the Vita or Sony for IGN not making a very good list. They left out a lot of quality titles- see comments above yours-that easily could have made the list, and a title like Gravity Rush deserves to be far higher.

The games that need to come back

Sony's Licensing Strategy May Be the Best Route to Reviving Some of PlayStation's Lost Classics

Sammy: "It’s sad that PlayStation has moved on from some of these iconic brands, but it would be worse watching them rot. At least with this licensing strategy, there’s a legitimate opportunity for more great franchises to get a second chance. And if they sell really well, there’s always the chance Sony may decide to bring them back."

Love this idea. Let other companies release reboots of these classics to a wider audience. Everyone wins.

It's what most IP holders do.

Remaster Puppeteer. It looked great on PS3 but it would be nice to have on PS5 with fast loading and some sort of 4k

playstation all stars would have been good if you could finish without ultimate moves. Made the game so boring and repetitive. The rest of the combat was really fun but that just killed it for me. Look at smash where you can get such creative kills and here you just wait for lvl 3 ult and press one button.
