now i cant wait to see what the starting up screen is like.. i'm thinking it is just going to be a black screen with a white PlayStation logo in the middle, like we saw in one of the promotional videos

or maybe we wont see a start up screen at all because it starts exactly from where you left off, unless you turn it on from having it unplugged.

For some people it's the small insignificant details just like those that make them smile. I know it is stupid, but that's the little kid in everyone.

You may think this and the fan noise maybe stupid things that no one would give two hoots about, but there are still people who like to hear little tidbits like this. You may not feel the same way about the PS4, but I'm sure at some point in your life you have felt a similar way about something.

Uniformity between the two products is a good thing.

Just like the xbox achievment sounds and PS3/4's trophy sounds, which I'm sure they'll keep the same across the board.

They could have upgraded it a little bit. That sound makes it sound like an old PC.

Xbox 360 upgraded the sound it makes when you start it. Heck, some of the limited edition Xbox 360s also makes an awesome custom sound.

The beep isn't iconic. If you played the sound without seeing it is a PS3 or PS4, would you associate it with that?

The achievement and trophy sounds are modern and iconic, because even without the console or anything hinting to a game console, you are likely to associate it with it.

That said, this isn't an issue, and shouldn't even be news!

The 360s also sounded like a vacuum cleaner, which is more important than the sound you first hear when you turn it on.

I agree, the original Xbox 360 was freakin loud especially when the DVD drive started spinning up. Lucky for me, the TV sound was always so loud it didn't matter too much and later the installations completely removed the sound with Xbox 360 S.

The Xbox 360 Slim is very well designed and quiet. MS can't design hardware like Sony, but they make up for it in software.

Imagine a console designed by Sony with MS software?

If Sony wasn't so arrogant back in the day shunning MS, we might have had that today!

And its that way according to you because Microsoft changed the beeping sound.

Now your just getting desperate. Its fine to compare graphics, controllers and exclusive games but when you have to rely on a startup beep then it just gets sad.

I doubt that the majority of "normal consumers" will care about the beeping sound.
