Depending on who you believe, getting a next-gen console at launch will either by a nightmare, or incredibly easy.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot recently claimed that next-gen consoles would be hard to get hold of at launch, but, in contrast, Sony's Jack Tretton has said that Sony is holding back PS4s to ensure consumers can get their hands on one come release day.
Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki and CFO Lin Tao talked about the state of the PlayStation business and the strategy and targets going forward, including how they're responding to the tariffs.
Sony announced its financial results for the fiscal year 2024, and things are certainly looking up, despite a decline in PS5 sales.
If their profits fall next quarter, we'll probably see more price hikes. I can't imagine having to pay £20 a month for PlayStation Plus.
Decline in hardware sales.
Behind on lifetime sales and decline in first party sales.
Third party content and PSN came through to save the day.
Things will improve starting with the next Ghost game.
Hopefully a steady flow of first party content by end of '25
PlayStation 5 has shipped 77.8 million units worldwide, Sony announced in its financial results for the three months ended March 31, 2025.
very nice.
in almost 5 years too.
some big hitters are yet to come
Hope I get mine on launch day but with free shipping on Amazon it could go either way...
I hope I get mine to on launch day i pre ordered in my local walmart
I'll have mines before the years end so I'll be good
My guess is that Sony will have at least 2 million ready at launch, which is far more than any of their launches before. It still will sell out, and still be hard to find. The PS4 IMO will be even more successful than the PS2 over its lifetime.
This will be as I eluded to in my first sentence, the BIGGEST console launch of any company ever before. You can book it, lead pipe lock it and cue up the gravity enhanced lady.
I am being conservative with the 2 million amount, I expect it to be closer to 3 million at launch. Probably a million for NA alone, and another million for the EU main countries and the UK combined, with the 3rd million for other EU countries, Australia and many others that they are launching in.
Possibly the biggest console launch ever.
