Earlier this summer a story that caught the imagination of the Nintendo Life community revolved around Xander Davis, an independent developer that declared himself to be a Wii U believer — he'd previously dismissed the system prior to its launch.
Xander Davis - The same day fans told me they wanted CIDER for Wii-U, Nintendo proactively reached out and provided me with an overview of their basic set-up with indie devs (details of which I have to keep confidential). So after I read them and thought they looked great (something I can say), I went straight out to buy a Wii-U to evaluate its console experience.
And how you know I’m sincere about this here, I am still a big supporter of the Ouya, conceptually for the Indie Cause, but have decided it’s not right for Astrogun projects right now due to its low horsepower and comparatively low install base (though it had only just launched). By the time I got my devkit, I had moved on to targeting consoles and platforms I felt were right for the demands of the projects. So if I truly didn’t think Wii-U was right for Astrogun projects, believe me, it would be my policy.
Well, that's a huge turnaround from calling it a "400 dollar Xbox 360". Well, the more quality games the merrier, I guess.
Great read. Couldn't agree more. Nintendo will have its place in the next gen. And it could end up being the mecca for indie game support.
Sounds like the Indie scene is going to blow up on Wii U which is great for the gamers.
Episode 22 has arrived and we've all caught Pokemon fever (it's pretty contagious). The symptoms include talking about Papo & Yo, The Last Story, and Dark Souls DLC. If not treated quickly by a doctor other symptoms may appear, such as discussing BioWare's love of Day 1 DLC, Vigil Games vs. Xander Davis, and whether yearly game releases are justified. After all previous symptoms have occurred, the patient will suffer from one final discussion on how anime is not taken seriously in the west (and then they will expire).
DSOGaming writes: "Vigil Games was quick enough to respond and issued a statement a couple of hours ago. According to Vigil’s statement, Davis was employed for 90 days, on a game that took over 2 years to develop."
I think I'm leaning more toward Vigil on this one. This Xander Davis guy came off as outlandish and unprofessional. He hardly made a case for himself.
Overall, I don't think it's possible for anyone to really know unless they work there. All I can take from this is that Darksiders II looks pretty cool and Xander Davis comes off as a douche.
Good to see Vigil fire back.
This prawn with I must admit cool name, Xander, seems like an attention whore & scumbag.
If they were as horrible to work for as he whines, & they made him work overly long hours with a gimp standing behind him threatening sexual rape & torture if he doesn't do his job, I mean, sarcasm aside.....this guy should have left if he found working conditions that bad, instead he waited to be sacked, then came out of the woodwork with a big mouth & a small brain.
Sounds like to me Vigil is saying they fired his ass for poor performance. Oh man, I get the feeling this dude is going to be raked over coals when it is all said and done. Also, when a major company says you are lying it is not just a random statement. That statement can and does have legal ramifications, meaning that they can sue the hell out of this guy for slander. Making a statement like that also means he could sue them for lying on him, him being Xander.
Something tells me a multimillion dollar company would consult a lawyer before issuing any statement like this, meaning Xander better back down before they sue his ass for slander.
Amazing how humble you can be when you realize you can't shit on gamers and actually need them. This guy was hating the Wii U(without hands on experience) working for a major publisher... Now that he is indie(and realize he needs Wii U customer) he is all nice now. Don't work that way for me... Sorry!
