Sony and Microsoft have set the stage for an epic duel in the video game market this fall.

The companies in November will launch their respective video game consoles — the Playstation 4 and Xbox One — but the initial marketing push is well under way

I think Sony will take the holidays by storm. $100 cheaper, no 180s, more powerful, comes out a little earlier. Too many good things going on for Sony

You're absolutely right Heavy. But when i say that I end up with a restriction and only 2 bubbles ROFL!!!!

Mikelarry3864d ago

I was going to say that haha. Playstation domination. #Deal With It.

FlameHawk3864d ago (Edited 3864d ago )

You got 2 bubbles because you would go to Xbox related articles where stating the facts aren't needed, I am a PS supporter but I give you a negative bubble everywhere you troll, you make us look bad. In this type of article I wouldn't give you a negative bubble because it is comparing the consoles.

@mewhy32

I have seen you troll worst then the crew you got your influence from in this site. You truly need to stop and realize that the pendulum can swing in any direction with these systems. LOL

I agree. sony being $100 cheaper will be something that stands out.

the whole 180 thing...unless stores put up a disclaimer saying XB1 had previously done some 180's...consumers wont really know or care for that matter.

Now the marketing teams on both sides will need to think things through. such as product placement in stores. Sony will likely be setting up kiosks in the gaming section of best buy and wal-mart, etc.

MS will do the same but could also have units set up throughout the rest of the electronics dept as well.

@darth. I agree the 180's won't play as big of a part as some people on n4g think. Only the hardcore who keep up since release have that on their minds. I see the biggest thing in sony's favor, is price point. No game on either console sticks out graphically more than the other so I think it'll come down to who has the better marketing and price point.

I agree......Microsoft also has carved out spaces in Best Buy, and will probably make sure to have Kinect set up near the aisles again. Still think Microsoft did a great disservice to themselves by not realizing what got them this far......even though I can appreciate some of the things they are trying to do.

I think the original DRM is one thing that many casual people will be asking about. The uproar was just that big. I mean even the daily newspapers reported about E3 and we all know how that went down. That might be one of the biggest problems MS have right now. Their E3 was a disaster in every shape and form possible. Mostly because of Sony's aggressive presentation. MS got absolutely humiliated back at E3 and many casual people heard about that.

harrisk9543864d ago (Edited 3864d ago )

@darth

I agree that the general consumer won't know or care about the MS 180's... For them, sales are driven, for the most part, by price...

However, the initial purchases of new consoles (and new tech in general) are generally by the "core" who DO know the history of the next gen consoles. Hardcore gamers are usually the ones who buy consoles at launch and, for hardcore MS fans, the $100 does not matter -- they will buy the XB1 regardless (as will hardcore Sony fans buy the PS4 regardless of anything else) But, for many "core" gamers who are not fanboys, the original MS policies and subsequent reversals do matter a lot and it will affect XB1 sales to a degree.

So, couple many "core" gamers' current disdain for MS with the $100 price difference which will be noticed by the "average consumer" and Sony will certainly have a leg up on the XB1 come this holiday.

Combine the 2 (core gamers knowing the backstory of the XB1 and the general consumer seeing a $100 price difference), I expect to see Sony handily beat MS this year. By next holiday season, who knows, but based upon launch predictions by many analysts (and supported by pre-sale numbers) Sony may get such a huge head start at launch that MS may never catch up. Time will tell, though.

@xHeavYx

I also agree with you! Except I don't believe it's going to be a battle at all! More like a little skirmish . But that's just my opinion!

Like you said, too many good things going on for Sony at this point. Seems for every positive news for Sony, there's a negative for Microsoft! And every positive for Microsoft, there's even more positive for Sony.

Don't get me wrong, I really do hope Microsoft can dig itself out of the ditch it dug itself into, but only if they have had some type of epiphony as to what the gaming industry should be all about. I understand the concept that every business is about making profits! I just don't think that businesses should think that they don't have a responsibility to ensure that their services or products to their consumers be held to the highest level of quality.

This is a symbiotic relationship after all.

I think its inevitable that sony takes the holiday. I really believe that if MS can start to play their cards right that their whole broad entertainment philosophy will pay off in the end. A few months ago
I saw some guys i knew from an old job at the mall and they had just left the MS store. They were going on about how the guy was showing them info on the xbox one. They were so taken back by kinect and hand gestures and the NFL integration. There will be a lot of people who may actually buy into the whole idea of it. For us core gamers its kind of like "yea, cool, whatever". But I trust MS to still offer a similar gaming experience to the 360 just better and with all the entertainment features. It will take time to catch on though.
I am getting the xbox one first but i'd like to have a ps4 by spring 2014. There's no denying the incredible amount of first party content they will be bringing us. I foresee the same set up i have now with the ps3/360...Xbox one for online shooters and hopefully gears etc. and the ps4 for their awesome campaign games (naughty dog etc.) Plus i'll won't have to worry about what multiplay looks better and where because ill have that choice

Should be fun to watch the two tech giants duke it out.

GraveLord3864d ago

PS4 has the edge. Hell, even PS3 is becoming more popular lately. The Xbox brand is losing steam fast.

kingdip903864d ago

Pretty soon they will be loosing TO steam lol

GraveLord3864d ago

Nope.

PC market doesn't directly compete with console market.

PC Gaming = Nerdy
Consoles = Mainstream
