Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn players on PS3 will be able to upgrade to the PlayStation 4 version for free, but in the process, players will lose the login rights to the PS3 version.
It makes sense.
No it doesn't. I'm not complaining since I'll probably play on PS4 anyways but I don't see how it's a requirement to disable your PS3 account. It makes sense as a business move, though. Buy the PS4 version if you want to play on both. But a requirement? The royalties to Sony are already paid with the PS3 version and they're giving you a digital client for PS4. The only way they'd lose money is if no one buys the PS4 version. I guess this way they do protect their sales. But I'm not complaining. It's a good move to give us the PS4 version for free.
It does make sense, but I agree it's stupid. If you do upgrade to the PS4 version it's likely for better graphics and possibly controls since everything else transfers, but why do you lose the PS3 version?
This decision is made by that greedy guy yoshida from square enix.
Use your head and it'll make sense. Why would they give you two copies of the game? Having one on Ps3 and on Ps4? It does not make sense from a business standpoint. It's like buying a game on Xbox 360 and expecting to get given a Ps3 version too. What you are doing is swapping a Ps3 version for a Ps4 version. Not being given a second copy of the game.
Hmm Not a big deal tho.
It just a certain way they setup their accounts and what not.
On FF11 when I started with PS2 version I was allowed to load the game across any platform. There was no need to transfer from PS2, PC or X360. The only downside I had was getting the software and having it installed/updated. The company didn't care what version I connected by provided I had a paid subscription. The company had problems with payment methods, security, customer support and regional issues but, I could pretty much load any client up and play my characters. I clearly never lost any rights when switching from PS2 to PC. As for the PC version they practically allowed people to pirate it because the software wasn't the prize it was the unlock codes, cost of media distribution and subscription fees that mattered. I suppose this has something to do with the licensing fees associated with the console. You know how Sony gets a percentage of profits from each sale to their console? That percentage money comes from somewhere. (original purchase) They'd just be moving it for free.
I think the game keys were also cross-platform if I remember correctly. You could borrow your friends' PC or X360 version to install it without spending a penny.
Point this out to square enix.
@kreate "Point this out to square enix." They're set in their ways far more then most people understand. Unless someone represents a large majority of interest that impacts profit potential its best just to avoid discussion. The game itself is high profile and has a lot of positive public opinion. It's nearly impossible to talk openly about how the company mitigates things without ridicule. Lets leave it at that.
I thought ff14 a realm reborn is the result of gamers pointing things out to square enix? *I didn't hit any agree or disagree button if that matters to u just fyi
exactly how the people want it and dont mind the loss of the ps3 versio as long as all the stats and equipment go over
A pity , but doesnt bother me anyway
Doesn't bother me...
I'll be playing the ps4 version via PS Vita Tv lol
You do know in order to play PS4 games on your Vita TV you have to own a PS4 first right? It's a streaming service for PS4 games. Kind of like how you can stream PS4 games to your Vita. So knowing this, why play on your Vita TV if you have a PS4? Or unless someone is taking the main TV.
cause i can
Good thing I can switch over ^~^
I don't even see the problem in this, unless you plan to play both here and there, which still wouldn't even make sense to do that. I'm pretty sure most people that are going to be upgrading to the PS4 version will do it for the better performance, graphics and social abilities of the PS4 version. It wouldn't make sense to want to go back to something that is inferior to that. Tbh, people should be happy that you can even upgrade for free. Back in FFXI, you had to buy a new copy of the game just to play on a different platform, and on top of that, you couldn't even resell the game because it had a code that is tied to each disc.
Not sure why it should bother anyone or even the people saying its "greedy"...they are letting you upgrade to the PS4 version absolutely FREE...so its almost like they are letting you trade your PS3 version for PS4 version straight up...makes sense. Who would want to play an inferior version on PS3 after playing on PS4?
I think its fine because they don't even have to do this promotion. If I need to play somewhere else ill use my vitas remote play.
Why would go back to the PS3 version after upgrading to PS4 anyway?
So here is the deal, and I'm hoping someone knows: My wife and I each have a PS3 and we both bought this game, individually, under different accounts on diff PS3's. I have PS4 on preorder. So am I going to be able to log in on her PS3 once I upgrade to PS4 version (so I can play in the BR if she's in the LR)? Can she use her version on my PS3 once I've upgraded (if she wants to play in the LR)?
"Square Enix said players who purchase the PlayStation 3 version of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will be able to upgrade to the PlayStation 4 version without any additional costs. Speaking with Famitsu, producer/director Naoki Yoshida elaborated on the transfer, which is actually a transfer of login rights." (Straight from the article, first paragraph) At first I was part of the "lynch mob" with hating SE on this, however, after actually reading the article I can see why this is done. No, I don't like the idea you can't play between the PS3/4, and if something does occur that requires reinstalling 14 that also wasn't brought up; however I do see the "option" to upgrade to 14 at no additional cost depending on your console preference. So in a sense SE is giving you the option to upgrade for free at the sacrifice of losing a "downgraded" version. One question I did have though, I didn't see a time limit (if any) on how long they will allow this, can anyone locate it?
Yeah I don't understand why people are so mad. If it's so important to play on PS3 then don't upgrade. Once I upgrade I have no plans on going back to PS3. Plus its free.
