Sony Misses PS3 Shipping Targets

What's worse than 100,000 units at launch? How about 80,000? The Nikkei Keizai Shimbun morning edition reports today that due to component shortages, Sony will have only 80,000 units ready for the PS3's 11/11 Japanese launch. This cuts back by a fifth the initial launch target of 100,000.

Lets get ready for damage control.
If this is true it blows big time.
It is good to be a 360 owner.

I thought Sony said the wait is over?

Just when you think it can't get any worse.

What's next America is going to get half its shipment?

chalk it up to Blu-ray. this Blu-ray crap is getting pathetic! why delay the game system for the format?

Sony doesnt give a crap about gaming and gamers alike!!!

A company as big as SONY who is the industry leader 2 generations in a row, and all they can muster up is a lousy 480,000 units which could be less in the near future. A project that has been in the works for years now and this is what people can look forward to. This is sad. I am extremely disappointed with what they have to show. They deserve to loose this "WAR" and a few higher-ups, NEED TO BE FIRED!!!!

I thought sony was the number #1 hardware maker or is microsoft buying up all the blue diodes for their drive.

Why would Microsoft buy blue diodes? They don't make any bluray products at the moment.

HD-DVD uses blue lasers as well. It's for the HD-DVD add-on, that I pre-ordered.
