Less great is the company's recent policy of flogging the living hell out of the series, milking its considerable retro cachet for every last droplet of money to be wrung. The sad fact, though, is that the last time an Invaders game actually felt new or interesting was with 1991's Cosmo Gang: The Video, a wacky spin-off inspired in equal parts by Invaders and Konami's Parodius. Since then, though, it's been a lazy downward spiral of rehashes and remakes".

Now, a decade later and with Space Invaders hitting its 40th anniversary, Space Invaders Extreme has been revived on PC. It’s roughly based on the Xbox 360 version but with a some major tweaks and quality-of-life enhancements.
