The Internet Reacts To Grand Theft Auto V's Map And Its Size

After months of speculation, the map of Grand Theft Auto V finally made its way to the web, and the details on it opened up the opportunity for a little bit of speculation. SPOILERS FOR THE MAP FOLLOW!

VonBraunschweigg3884d ago

That map will be our home for quite some time.

Welshy3884d ago (Edited 3884d ago )

I really wish they would just come out and say it will be next gen too.

We're going to have 2 months after GTA before the PS4 launches.

As much as i love the GTA series and think it deserves every penny, i'm gonna be hella pissed if i'm 2 weeks into GTA5 on my PS3 just for R* to go "Hey guys! look how much better it looks and plays on the PS4 version!" and end up £50 out of pocket.

Edit: Just for the record, i'm not hating on GTA5, in fact i have it both preordered and prepaid, i'll enjoy the sh*t out of it but can't lie and say i won't be even a little annoyed when there's a new system right around the corner and every penny i have at the moment counts.

MarcoGT3884d ago

That's why if it is it would probably be announced next year or whatever they have planned otherwise they'd lose money to people waiting for it on next systems or whatever. Just my little theory.

Welshy3884d ago (Edited 3884d ago )

That would be a little disrespectful to your loyal customers though, would it not?

Knowing full well you have a next gen version sitting on the shelf ready to roll but purposefully not telling fans just to get more money out of the current systems?

From a business perspective, absolutely i see why they might do that, but it's a bit of a slap in the face to consumers, given how loyal gamers have been to the series and people are struggling for money as it is, with new systems right around the corner asking for another £50 is a big ask.

SolidStoner3884d ago

just buy a new one on PS4... if they release it on next gen Im sure it will include more content and look better..

even if they do release it on PS4, I doubt it will be day one.. so this GTA is worth buying multiple times anyway...

and sony announced something like "game upgrade to PS4" if you have PS3 version of it you might get downloading it on PS4 cheaper, even if you have PS3 Blu-ray copy (it will work with BF4)...
so why not with everything else...

VonBraunschweigg3884d ago

Then that map will be our home for quite some time and after that another quite some time:)

But I understand what you're saying, two weeks would kinda suck, wouldn't be right. Weird thing is, after say 6 months I wouldn't have a problem with it anymore. Probably will buy it for PS4 day one as well, especially if I like what we'll get next week. But my bet is they keep GTA5 current-gen, perhaps even console only, and start all over for next-gen with GTA6. They always said it was developed on/for current-gen consoles, you can't just port that to next-gen consoles or mid/high range PC's and get good results. I think. Perhaps the other way around, but what do I know.

Imo juggernauts like GTA games should always be made for one generation. New hardware, from 512MB to 8GB, new game, new engine.

BallsEye3884d ago

I'm certainly waiting for next gen-version. Waiting sucks but I'm sure it will be worth it.

TheFamous13884d ago

I don't think it will come to next-gen. Rockstar doesn't do shit like that. They will ship GTA V, support the Online + Expansions while focusing on their next game.

Jack Meahoffer3884d ago

Just like San Andreas GTA V will come to next gen platforms and PC after several months. The game cost like $265 million to produce. No question the PC version is in the works. Porting to next gen from there is too easy to pass up the extra cash based on the PC like architecture of the next gen systems.

In my opinion it's not even a question. It will happen. Rockstar isn't stupid. They'll just wait until next year sometime.

Cernunnos3884d ago

It will definitely be announced for next-gen within the coming 4 months. There is no reason what so ever to port it to PC, without also porting it to PS4 and One.

LordHiggens3884d ago

Not many games warrant a 120 dollar purchase...

This one does

59.99 PS3
59.99 potential PS4

Yup, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

FamilyGuy3883d ago

I prefer that they don't, if the next gen version were to release withing 4 months of the current gen version it would be a different story. I just don't think they should make people want to wait if a next gen version or PC announcement is way off in the future over half a year away or more.

TheDarpaChief3883d ago

Get a ps4 and "Upgrade" gta V man!

Khajiit863883d ago

They will most likely move gta online to next gen.

Ritsujun3883d ago (Edited 3883d ago )

GTA and SR are ewwww.

bohemian 233883d ago

Nov. 2014, GTA next gen. It will happen.

solid_snake36563883d ago

It better be on the PS4, cuz I traded in my ps3 for the PS4.

kingPoS3883d ago

Just imagine in five years time... GTA 6 in vice city for the PS4 & XB1.

GTA wouldn't be GTA if it came out every year, there would be no buildup of anticipation for the next one if that happened.

Danniel13883d ago

It's the unfortunate awkwardness that comes with a generation change. We're probably all gonna end up out of pocket at some point during the transition.

I'm probably gonna wait till mid 2014 to buy a new console just to avoid the initial overlap issues.

LiquidM3taL3883d ago

Just remember, the "significantly discounted price" upgrade from Ps3 to PS4 titles ;) It's likely you will have your special or collectors edition and then end up paying another 10 bucks to get the game on PS4 and then you will have the love of playing GTAV ALL OVER AGAIN

;)

SaulGoodman3883d ago

@ Welshy
So you're saying you don't want GTA5 to release on next gen consoles?

Tapewurm3883d ago (Edited 3883d ago )

I decided to wait for the next gen version myself....I can hold out.... I am definitely waiting for the ps4 version of this as well as a few other games...the biggest being Gran Turismo 6. I just know that once I get the PS4 that most of my gaming time will be spent on it. As much as I have loved all of the Playstation systems of the past.....(from a personal point of view)it has always been hard for me to go back for any prolonged play after the next gen has come.

Gamer Muzz3883d ago (Edited 3883d ago )

even if it were coming out on the next gen consoles, I'd still plan to buy and play it on the 17th, so it's a moot point. I'm not waiting two months to play it.
If it comes out later for the X1/PS4 I'll pick it up then too just to compare the differences to the "last Gen" version.

BOLO3884d ago

Who disagrees with this? Damn Saints Row trolls.

P0werVR3884d ago

LMAO!

God I LOVE that T-Rex pic!

SaulGoodman3883d ago

If you love a T-Rex, you'll love Jarassic World!

YNWA963884d ago

Yeah, will take some time to do the sight seeing....

JBaby3433884d ago (Edited 3884d ago )

That is one of the best parts of open world games. Just going around and seeing what's there. I wander for hours in all the open worlds I play. Infamous 1 & 2, Just Cause 2, Far Cry 2, etc. I love just roaming and taking it all in.

I would like for them to say how big the map is like in square miles (kilometers). Would be interesting to hear. So far I think Just Cause 2 is the biggest I've ever played. It is just massive.

moparful993883d ago

There's a picture in the link showing the peer and you can faintly see a control tower in the distance for the airport.. They show on the map where those two points are. Seeing how small the gap appears on the map and then seeing just how far it really is gives you an idea that this is going to be mind blowing.. Rockstar has once again placed the bar out of reach for everyone else.. Gah tuesday can't get here fast enough!

Pascalini3884d ago

Yay lots of huge fields with hidden secrets like rabbits and stray cats

P0werVR3884d ago

I was thinking cracks up in the Hollywood hills...ZOMBIES?!

pr0t0typeknuckles3884d ago

You have some people that are crazy enough to say oh its to small,-_- really?

princejb1343884d ago

i guess im one of those crazy people
i feel like theres to much country side
in my experience, my least favorite part in san andreas was the country side
i believe they should have added at least 2 cities

Welshy3884d ago

I know what you mean, it totally depends on what R* have put out there for you to do.

I'm a huge fan of Just Cause 2 but at least half of it's (admittedly beautiful) world was just hills and vegetation with very little to actually do.

I just hope GTA5 doesn't fall down that trap.

Megaplaynate3884d ago

That's actually the reason I didn't like SA, there was too much countryside and if you blew up your car you had to walk, a lot.
It was a great game but since I spent a lot of time exploring, I got stuck in the middle of nowhere without a car several times.

HeyImBen113884d ago (Edited 3884d ago )

That isn't only countryside, there are a lot of little towns and villages.

The map is perfect, and GTA 4 had a fucking boring map because it was only town.

And almost everyone thinks the countryside in SA was the best thing about the map.

Lykon3884d ago

I liked the cuntery side in SA .. amberlamps missions in the fog at night stick in my mind.

jamespask3884d ago

I have to disagree... I was bored of GTA IV eventually and am looking forward to roaming countrysides and as for just cause 2 that was ok but very little detail and i think in just cause 3 on next-gen they just need to work on detail.

P0werVR3884d ago

Well, if you guys thought it through. You would find that it is Southern California after all.

Too bad there isn't a Las Vegas...probably spoke too early.

warczar3883d ago

I'm willing to bet rockstar took a que from saints row and will allow vehicles to be delivered to you so you don't get stuck way out in BFE.

Off topic: the VTOL warship is the best vehicle ever put in an open world game, here's to hoping rockstar has something just as fun to cruise around in.

PiTCHBLaCK3883d ago

Just Cause 2 has hella country and no Animals to boot!, They messed up on that aspect.

Gobbyer3883d ago

Well after all the hype about it being bigger than San Andreas, Red Dead Redemption and IV, I feel kinda dissapointed. Yeah sure it is huge and more than enough in size, but the map size in my head was just too bloated thanks to hype :<

More interested in money than giving fans what they want. Such a shame

CrimsonWing697d ago

With the amount of money they generated, I just don’t understand the scrubbing of this. It would’ve been fantastic for fans.

Profchaos7d ago

I really want to know who drove the decision to focus on multiplayer was it Rockstar or take two.

Because when online started taking off many of the studio leads began having falling outs and leading including a founder

Demetrius6d ago

Ikr mfs that greedy it's ridiculous

andy857d ago

This makes me sad. Trevor was one of my favourite characters in gaming

Demetrius6d ago

One of the reason I believe once gta 6 release, most of us thoroughly play it, enjoy the world they crafted then after that no offline support, no dlc at all
