Now that the Xbox One has received a November 22 date, does the PS4's one-week head start give Sony the edge? Or are the dates too close to matter?
TL:DR version. 1 week wont matter.
Agreed. And besides, how would we really be able to tell come launch time? The PS4 is launching before AND after the XBO so it's really not even going to be noticeable whether or not launching a week before or a week after is significant. Moot point.
Yup, 1 week means nothing but this matters: PS4s confirmed and noteworthy features that set it apart from the PS3: *The new controller *Headset jack in the controller that allows game audio output so you don't disturb others *The faster interface and game launching *Multi-tasking *Pausing game play to launch other apps and resuming game play without start up screens *Background downloading while you play *Background downloading while you're away *Initiating game purchases and downloading while away from home. *Playing a game before the download is complete *Choosing which portion of a game to start downloading first *Game updates that happen in the background without forcing you to wait for their completion before you can play a game. *Pre-loading pre-ordered day 1 digital content *Demo and digital version option for every game *Lots of developer support *Allowing cross platform play against/with PC gamers *The exclusives *Live streaming your game play *Saving and sharing your great game play moments *Video chatting while you play games *2000 player friends list with ways of categorizing friends *Vita Remote play (local wifi and internet) *Gaikai, backward compatibility and game streaming to multiple devices *Launching in 32 countries this year *Virtual "pass the pad" allowing you to let your friends help you in games. *PS+ continuing its trend of free games IGC *Massive number of available launch window titles. *Developer friendly architecture *Split-screen flipping when your change seats *Multimedia functions *Upgraded graphics *Sleek, attractive console design *Faster speed blu-ray drive *Party chat *The majority of Apps, services and functions not being behind a paywall List of announced exclusive/timed exclusive games as of Sept 5th, 2013 Assault Android Cactus The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth Blacklight: Retribution Contrast The Dark Sorcerers engine created game Daylight DC Universe Online Deep Down Diablo III Don't Starve DriveClub Everybody's Gone to the Rapture FEZ Final Fantasy XIV Final Horizon Galak-Z Guns of Icarus Helldivers Hohokum Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number Infamous: Second Son Killzone: Shadow Fall Knack Mercenary Kings Octodad: Deadliest Catch N++ Oddworld: New n' Tasty The Order 1866 Outlast PlanetSide 2 The Playroom Primal Carnage: Genesis Project Phoenix (if its kickstarter goes well) Ray's The Dead Res0gun Rime Rogue Legacy Samurai Gunn Secret Ponchos Shadow of the Beast Shadow Warrior Starbound Switch Galaxy Ultra Timesplitters Rewind (just announced) Tiny Brains Transistor Velocity 2X Volume Warframe War Thunder Wasteland Kings The Witness The one week early, one week late positioning is probably the most insignificant thing about the PS4. I'm a Sony fan, someone (an Xbox fan) should make a list of X1s features that set it apart/show how it's upgraded from the 360, along with its exclusive/timed exclusive games.
I'm already getting a PS4 but I didn't know about some of those smaller features and I must admit, some of those features sounds like such a clever and brilliant addition! Cheers for this list! More excited than ever!
"*Video chatting while you play games" Is this a confirmed feature? If so that would be brilliant!
It means just as much as the week head start in Europe for the xbox one so nope.
Couldn't have said it better. If it were a month head start then it might be something.
It means the next generation start when sony says so :)
I doubt it would have a huge significance, but one thing is in that week casual gamers who dont keep up with the news like coming on this site for example, might pick up the PS4 because its the first available console in stores of the 2 and also if Call of Duty comes out during its usual release date between November 1 - 15 then those who go to pick up Call of Duty launch week looking for one of the next gen consoles to play it on might just pick up a PS4 if they have no console preference.
Well being that casual buy's aren't usually early adopters I don't know if that would help them to much. However I do believe cod ghost is out on the 5th, and with the option to pick it up on this gen and change it for 10 later on I don't know if that would have much bearing.
Oh yeah thats very true I actually forgot about the games upgrade to next gen for discount deal and I know casual gamers are usually not early adopters, but there are those people and casual gamers who are always wanting whatever the next big new thing is, like with cellphones, those are the people I was talking about. But yeah, theres pretty much no significant benefits from being out a week early, all I can see now after what you just brought up is Sony has bragging rights of being first, thats about it.
Not really! I want MS to be on pair with sony on every aspect. I think there is enough market for both of them. If sony fails MS will [email protected] everyone!... (they already tried, even before the next gen stared), and Sony is not a saint either, or at list they wont be this nice if MS is not lurking around
nothing matter as much as the 100$ difference
It's a lot more than 1 week in many countries because Xbox One won't release in many places until next year.
Ps4 edge as it releases in more counties, cheaper price, more launch conoles cos of production issues with PAYBOX.
@DJ Marty do you really believe the nonsense you're spewing? People like you would love to believe Ms are having production issues because you're scared like Sony If these rumors about Xbox One being the most powerful console are correct then Sony will be able to make an omelet with all of the egg on their faces
The xbox isn't the most powerful... Two small over clocks do not close the gap between the two consoles. I'm not getting into a debate as it's in black and white. Fabrication mixed with delusional fantasies will only disappoint yourself. I don't see why people who are buying the x1 are so infuriated by the PS4 being more powerful, isn't it about games?
Don't think it will make any difference, I think console availability around Christmas will make a difference. I think parents who aren't gamers will get whichever console is available at the time.
In the grand scheme of things, nope. Sure it'll aid in the fanboy arguments, but 6 months after launch, a weeks difference isn't going to be a deciding factor in install base.
What is going to matter more than anything when it comes to launch month is supply/stock.
the 360 had a year headstart over the ps3, so i say no?
Cheaper more power to the hardware its releasing in more countrys so I say sony has the edge I mean even with free forza or fifa ps4 still be cheaper x1 fanboys dont seem to see it!! But it aint about the hardware overclocking doesnt make a difference just makes ur hardware abit faster then it was any pc person will tell you so I say let the games and gfx do the talking
Walmart has a ps4 bundle with 2 controllers, the camera and 3 games (call of duty:ghost, AC:black flag and watchdogs) for $517.00. That simply amazes me.
Means I will be playing ps4 before my X1 by a week.
No t doesn't mean nothing. You can't win the console war in a week. What's most important is that on launch day everything works right. No psn problems, no hardware problems, quick downloads, etc. after the midnight release people aren't gong to want to spend an hour downloading patches and installing games, they want to get online quickly as possible.
Xbox 360 came out a year earlier then PS3 and that didn't make a difference for them. PS4 wins the whole ride out with that shiny price and with its solid true exclusives. ^~^
Yes it matters on whats important, will give a whole week of happiness to the buyers and players, similar to the whole time that the xbox360 give fun to the players before the PS3 was launch
In the end Microsoft will be a growing 270 billion dollar company while Sony a 13 billion dollar company that continus to struggle to see a profit in the last four years. M$ will continue to get more love and support from big name gaming company's and get first timed dlc and exclusives.
Be proud of one man's money...It sure isn't yours. Time exclusive and dlc is something no one should be proud of. It just shows how greedy a person/company can be.
About as significant as this article...
A week earlier means I'm next gen gaming a week earlier than people who pre-ordered the Xbox One.
