Inafune: Mighty No. 9 looks like Mega Man due to my art style

Joystiq: "Mighty No. 9 could present some legal issues due to its similarity, both in terms of art and gameplay, to Capcom's Mega Man series. When it comes to the former, Keiji Inafune told me at PAX Prime it's because he created both Mega Man and Mighty No. 9 – and it's only natural the two should share some resemblance."

I'm surprised Capcom isn't trying to take legal action over character design

If it didnt look like megaman to me at first sight then theres nothing to be worried about to be honest.

Nitrowolf22267d ago (Edited 2267d ago )

ha I thought the exact opposite, even the name part "Mighty" was one of the original names for Megaman (Mightyman).

I Mean they Blue is the main character (same color as Megaman) The girl is red/pink, same color as Roll and there's even a dog. The enemy with hazard cone resemble Mettaur, and even the art work for the human are like Dr. Light and Wily

fair enough but it honestly looked like some weird indie game till i knew more about it and suddenly gauge my interest more

BTW before people come in here and point out the obvious rips, there is a reason why he's saying this and it's simply to protect himself from any legal issues. He's not gonna come out and point out what everyone already knows cause if he did, Capcom will have more to back themselves if they do decide to take legal action.

Well true, but also due to the fact hes blue, his sidekick is a girl in red, who has a dog, and one of their opponents has a scissor on his head :)

But since Capcom does nothing worthwhile with Megaman, i say Inafune has all the right to create a game with strong resemblance.
Especially considering Megaman was his creation.

Its like having your favorite toy taken away by a kid who doesnt even want it, and solely took it because you liked it.

Exactly, Capcom canned the last games and I can see them being dicks about this.

PS: he didn't really "create" Megaman (Design) though, Akira Kitamura did. He helped work on him, but most of the design was done after he was hired at Capcom. He did create Zero, which was suppose to be the new Megaman.

Foxgod2267d ago

Didnt know that, but thanks for clearing that up.

Misaka_x_Touma2267d ago

Megaman latest appearance would be Smash Bros.

Foxgod2267d ago

Maybe Mighty n09 could be DLC for smash bros :D

I would love to see the two clash, I could see it now, two sons fighting for their future. Will "Might make Right" or will Beck end up "Black and Blue!?" Find out on the next episode of Dragonball Z....

How many companies did the same thing to Call of Duty or Monster Hunter? Or, heck, to Mega Man back in the day, albeit badly? Final Fantasy? Usually people do a "Like (insert game here) but" when a franchise is making a lot of money. At least here, Inafune is making a Megaman-like game in a world where Capcom throws Megaman under the bus while a rabid fanbase just stands by. This is the best -like idea I've seen in a while, and it shouldn't warrant a court case unless there's code ripped from a previous game. Which, given Inticreates made so many of the spinoffs and handhelds, may be possible, so they'll have to look out.

I hope CapCom is watching that kick starter just to see how much money they lost out on.
