Certain issues out there will never be funny, will never be satirical, and should never, under any circumstances be supported. To support PAX is to support rape culture, and that my friends is absolutely wrong. There's no other way to say it.
Great article. Someone had to say it.
Not really. Just white knights getting worked up over nothing.
I decided to attend PAX next year in authors stead.
The dickwolves joke was in poor taste, but it is a little bit much to say that to support PAX is to support rape culture. Certainly the Penny Arcade guys didn't handle the dickwolves situation well. There point was more that they should have the creative freedom to make commentary on societal issues in a manner that they see fit. They where also trying to show that they didn't intend any malicious ill will towards any particular group with the comic strip. The problem came into play when they down played the issue of people who have been raped or know someone who has been raped being offended by their comic strip. Either way the whole thing was in poor taste, but it wasn't intended to have a malicious message or support actual rape.
The only thing I hated there was there was SO many people. To the point where you could not even enjoy anything. You have to pick and choose what games you wanted to sit there and camp out for to play. If there was ever a fire, people would be screwed. Because as we all seen there. It was so packed in those halls and rooms you couldn't move much at all.
Lol That second comic cracks me up.
It sounds offensive when its in this context, but if you go back and read the actual storyline of it.... its not really that offensive.... It was a fake character making a joke about another fake character.... honestly.... It was a joke.... laugh.... or don't laugh. Getting offended is not an option. There was a debate about where the line is for comedians to joke about. The overall conclusion was there is no line.
hmm, I think there are more important global issues you could focus in on instead of mythical dickwolves having their way with you every night.
So this is how you choose to exercise your freedom of speech. By telling other people they are wrong to exercise their freedom of speech and tell a joke that may or may not be funny to some group of people. I'm curious to know what the article writer's definition of rape culture is exactly.
Wooooo PAX!! Aw damn I missed it this year well there is always next year. Remember it's not rape if both parties agreed to it but it is rape even though you yell "surprise"
To read this article is to support rape culture because it rapes quality journalism.
" I refuse to attend pax because of it" And the sound of no one giving a fuck was heard far and wide.
Child's Play is enough to support PAX and Penny Arcade.
I'm on team dickwolves here. The joke is not "haha, that guy got raped." You're actually SUPPOSED to empathize with the guy for the joke to work. The joke is "haha, our MMO characters are kind of jerks when you think about it. The mechanics and writing don't allow us to actually solve the problems of a persistent game world, and thus the narrative ultimately suffers and oh my god there's like ten paragraphs worth of analysis in those three panels, this is why I love Penny Arcade."
One thing to add: it's ONE joke in their entire career. Are we not gonna buy Xbox One because of the "Just let it happen" remark during the Killer Instinct demo?
