Xbox has been "way more progressive and open," says Raptr head

The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are roughly a couple months away from launch, but many still aren't sure what to expect from the next-gen systems. One such person is Raptr CEO Dennis Fong, who told GamesIndustry International recently that "it's just too early to tell" how the new consoles will work with the community-focused cross-platform gaming service.

Thanks for your opinion, but I'm not receiving it, as it's a blatant lie.

Sony, with PS4, forced Microsoft to include indie in its strategy, they forced Microsoft to abandon its restrictive DRM policies, they forced Microsoft to open the console and make it region-free - and forced Microsoft to make Kinect non-mandatory, yet still, this guy claims Sony is the closed company....

Hate it when people just babble gibberish.

Gazondaily2781d ago (Edited 2781d ago )

"Hate it when people just babble gibberish"

Irony.

I'm sorry but you are such a hypocrite. After posting on thread after thread on the Xbox One, when a slightest bit of criticism is levied against the PS4 you say "I'm not receiving it, as it's a blatant lie. "

WTF?! Why? Why is it a blatant lie? Do you have first hand experience in this?

allformats2781d ago (Edited 2781d ago )

Septic, this is why it's a blatant lie:

"Sony, with PS4, forced Microsoft to include indie in its strategy, they forced Microsoft to abandon its restrictive DRM policies, they forced Microsoft to open the console and make it region-free - and forced Microsoft to make Kinect non-mandatory, yet still, this guy claims Sony is the closed company...."

I explained why, but maybe you didn't get that far reading my comment.

Gazondaily2781d ago

@allformats

Err...do you even know what this article is about? Read it again.

To make things easy:

**Microsoft also provides Raptr with direct feeds of data to help them streamline the integration of Xbox Live information into the service.**

allformats2781d ago

I know what the article is about. It's about APIs and what not. But the guy babbling his tongue should have been more specific.

And so I used the opportunity to speak about Sony in general, since he generalized the company as a whole to say that it wasn't as open..

Yeah, I read it.

Gazondaily2781d ago (Edited 2781d ago )

"I know what the article is about. It's about APIs and what not."

"Hate it when people just babble gibberish."

I rest my case using your own quotes.

allformats2781d ago

lol Septic you're funny. I still think he's talking gibberish. First he should have been more specific and secondly, just because Sony doesn't give his company unguarded access doesn't make them somehow worse than MS.

Especially after that NSA mess.

DiRtY2781d ago

If there is a definition of pure ownage in wikipedia, it should just link to this conversation.

christocolus2781d ago

@septic

my thougths exactly....people are quick to comment and post their biased opinions....this dev surely has his reasons (as stated)..if this was the other way round.it would be ok..but any dev who finds it easier working with ms is always a liar......after e3 i remember hideo kojima and even ted price(insomniac)were insulted on this site by ps fans for showing off their games for xbox one.....guys i know this site is for gamers and all but pls you need to chill with the bias and ignorance.its petty.

malokevi2781d ago

"Especially after that NSA mess. "

Is that your fallback argument? Sounds like it.

"oh yeah... well.... MICROSOFT IS IN CAHOOTS WITH THE GOVERNMENT!"

@septic he sound it to me as if he was speaking in genera about Sony not just specific area

and the term "hypocrite" is way too strong to use

corvusmd2781d ago

Septic, don't waste your time, this is typical PSZombie strategy....just smear the other company. If it's positive about XB1 or Negative about PS4..it's a "lie, gimmick, or not important" if it's the other way around, "it's fact and MS is so dumb, and anyone that buys it is stupid". It's so obvious it's ridiculous. If MS wasn't a threat, they wouldn't even waste their time talking about it. The real problem here is that these PSZombies staked their whole position on the PS4 crushing the XB1 too early...and they don't want to back pedal..so they just trash talk anything that makes them have to. It's easy to see when they say that MS should get rid of a policy like DRM and then they'd consider getting one (just so they look unbiased), then MS makes that change, so the fanboys spin it as "we can't trust a company that does what we asked them to" They forgot about games, it's just all about drama now.

Saigon2781d ago

Not to defend allformats but I see where he is coming from. In the article, the guy states:

""PlayStation on the other hand, has been very, very closed, almost to the point of ignorance, in terms of trying to control every little thing that goes through PlayStation and what their users see," Fong said. "So getting them to release any kind of data, user profile data and such, has been a lot like pulling teeth."

In the past, Fong said Raptr dealt with Sony through various committees including people from around the world. The result was a very slow process in which nothing ever got done, he said. Fong also chalked it up in part to Japanese Internet culture, which he described as different from the rest of the world, "less open, more controlling.""

From that information it seems he is talking negative about Sony and the PS4 but he isn't; he is referring to Sony Past practices. What really places that out there is because he says:

"Despite that, there may be hope for increased cooperation with Sony on the PS4. Fong noted that Sony seems to have given its American arm, particularly Gaikai, more influence regarding the system's online elements this time around, "so it definitely seems more open.""

That statement there states they were referring to past practices and hope it improves with the PS4.

This article in general is flaimbait as well as searching for hits...

nukeitall2781d ago

I find this a typical ignorant fangirl comment.

When a negative comment is touted by an almost unknown indie gamer, it is the truth and MS is the devil!

When a CEO of a large platform dealing with gaming networks, data collection and data mining, it is "it is a blatant lie"!

Gotta love fangirls!

Ah yes, AllFormats.

The insider that knows everything positive about the Xbox brand is a lie, thank you for your knowledge, it being bestowed upon us is a blessing.

I've seen you popping up all over that place, nothing positive to say about the Xbox One.

"Forced Microsoft to include indies"

Please, direct me to the current indie program on the PS3, while I go and download Indie games on the 360, I'll let you search for it.

BlueBlood172781d ago (Edited 2781d ago )

I recommend a little game called called Journ-

Oh wait.

Doesn't matter.

XboxFun2781d ago

The fallback game all sony fanboys go to is Journey.

But MS has been providing Indies to their 360 since darn near day one. Their own channel, community, tools and all.

Why so defensive?

HolyDuck2781d ago

It's funny because hes changed his comment three times now, that's how strongly he feels about this subject.

UnHoly_One2781d ago (Edited 2781d ago )

Here's a little word of advice, Allformats.

Before you jump into an article and attempt to be the first comment, while also being a huge Sony Fanboy, it might help if you read the article first in order to avoid looking like a complete idiot.

The guy isn't lying, and your comment makes no sense, because he is talking about one very specific aspect of Xbox when he says they are more "open". One specific aspect that has absolutely zero to do with anything you just typed in your blind fanboy response.

Read next time, seriously. Your post is a joke.

The fact that you have 7 bubbles is a damn travesty. What a shame.

N4G members, this is your fault, I hope you are proud of yourselves.

allformats2781d ago

Whatever. I read the article:

"I know what the article is about. It's about APIs and what not. But the guy babbling his tongue should have been more specific.

And so I used the opportunity to speak about Sony in general, since he generalized the company as a whole to say that it wasn't as open..

buynit2781d ago

Tell me about it! Here i am with 4 bubbles and i never go into a blind rage like that! I speak negative and positive about both and i will also buy both consoles..

Septic with the combo breaker into an ultimate..

UnHoly_One2781d ago

He should have been more specific?? What the hell are you even talking about??

He was plenty specific, and the article itself fully explained everything that wasn't covered in the exact quote from him.

It was all laid out for you in a very easy to understand manner, you just chose to ignore it and jump right into insane fanboy mode.

givemeshelter2781d ago (Edited 2781d ago )

This site has been like this for the past 5-6 years. N4G now has become what GAMEPRO BOARDS BECAME. The laughing stock of the core gaming internet circuit... And it's members like allformats that cause this. Not just die hard Sony fanboys but also die hard Xbox fanboys contribute to this Tom Foolery love affair with a "toy"
However the past 5+ years it's been the Sony fanboys that really ruined this site and stood out... and those get rewarded with many bubbles and almost never get restriction bans from the moderators on this site when they troll.

When you speak the truth and try to keep a unbiased opinion on all systems, expect to lose many bubbles and get many disagrees... Then come the bans like clockwork.
I come to this site now for the pure comedy of it all to see the bickering. It's amazing entertainment now and not gaming news anymore.
I love to see the posts on fanboys love affair with their systems.
No one does THIS better then N4G.COM! :-p

If this were the other way around...welll...you know how this would go. If its MS or even Nintendo...It's all lies and hate... Ad in a sentence here and there.

Convas2781d ago (Edited 2781d ago )

AllFormats is so desperate to defend Sony that even when a VALID point is presented, he can't accept it.

The mere fact that someone is speaking "ill" of Sony seems like it hurts him physically.

I imagine he was becoming emotional whilst writing his impassioned arguments against the evils of this article, liberally dousing his cheeks with hot tears in light of the perceived persecution against Sony.

Meanwhile ... HE IS COMPLETELY OFF WHAT THE ARTICLE IS TALKING ABOUT.

malokevi2781d ago

"opinion", "lie", "perception"... all in the same sentence?

Man you're messed up.

PlayStation_42781d ago

They are talking about Xbox and PS open-ness with Raptr, not in general.

I think Sony are just being really careful after the PSN 2011 hack.

andrewsqual2781d ago

It must be opposite day at gamesindustry.

ALLWRONG2781d ago

Only one babbling allformats is you. I'm going to assume this is the part you didn't like.

"PlayStation on the other hand, has been very, very closed, almost to the point of ignorance, in terms of trying to control every little thing that goes through PlayStation and what their users see," Fong said. "So getting them to release any kind of data, user profile data and such, has been a lot like pulling teeth."

redwin2781d ago

I don't think Sony forced MS to do anything I think players forced MS to do everything. If both consoles would have had the same RDM policies players would have flocked to PC and still Xbox would have changed. In the other hand MS forced Sony on: online gaming, cross game chat, indie, hard drive, x86, media hub, broadband, multyplayer games online, bigger remote, cloud. There is more and I refuse to go on. I have both systems and I use Sony for their great first party games, for the rest, including online gaming, I use the 360. Now stop fighting, we all win!

Raptr is bigger than N4G and you say "Raptr Who?" What are you going to say next Google who?

-Foxtrot2781d ago

lol comparing something like Raptr to Google

Nice try but I've never heard of them, if it was bigger then this site then I think people on here would be talking about it but I've never even heard the name mentioned on here untill today with this article

Gazondaily2781d ago (Edited 2781d ago )

"PlayStation on the other hand, has been very, very closed, almost to the point of ignorance, in terms of trying to control every little thing that goes through PlayStation and what their users see," Fong said. "So getting them to release any kind of data, user profile data and such, has been a lot like pulling teeth."

This seems to be quite a strong indictment against PSN but then again, maybe this is an inevitable consequence of Sony finally getting their act together in delivering a robust online service. Quality control is important and Sony can't be too 'open' with their online policies, especially after the whole hacking fiasco.

In any case, this is the first time I'm hearing such a criticism so I'll take it with a pinch of salt.

extermin8or2781d ago (Edited 2781d ago )

Yet who allows cross platform play? Services Like steam? hmm.... they also share data for games with EA's origin service etc and have their own equivalent of what Raptr's doing that arguably is far better than raptr's offering. Steam has their own version of it too. Think Raptr needs to face facts that these days most of the main hardware and service creator's have their own versions of this that are better. It'd be nice to have it all in one place but that's what my ps4 shall be for well minus steam but...

devwan2781d ago

I don't see it as criticism - it shouldn't be straight forward for a 3rd party to be able to have access to all your profile info.

The way things are heading something like raptr is going to be less and less relevant, platform holders will want you doing all your social business through their own or approved partners, if the services are good that's not a problem.

black0o2781d ago

let's talk facts here
Sony allowed Sqaure enix to bring FFxiv to both ps3/4 and Allowed them to do cross plat with PC and that's why the game isnt coming to the Xbox so who's who
also the digital extreme already said they got the green light from Sony to bring data from the PC version and profiles as well .... etc

bottom line talk is cheap ... and Sony's action is loud and clear, and the dirt digging on Sony is getting pathetic, we didn't let them easy on ps3 launch I even send a lot of hate mail to them ... but this time around so far Sony is doing what I want

Activemessiah2781d ago

We beLIEve you, Raptr.............

GribbleGrunger2781d ago

"So getting them to release any kind of data, user profile data and such, has been a lot like pulling teeth."

And I hope it continues.

MonkeyNinja2781d ago

Exactly. I don't see how this is a BAD thing.

8832781d ago (Edited 2781d ago )

Thought the same thing... When a third party complains that they can't get their hands on "user profile data and such" from the primary... Thank you to the primary party for NOT sharing user profile data (personally identifying or NOT).

GribbleGrunger2781d ago (Edited 2781d ago )

It's a weird world out there when proof of good security is presented as a negative. Remember when this article first popped up folks, it's perhaps the beginning of something bigger in terms of 'acceptance'. If more people can persuade the public that getting access to your personal data is a good thing, then ... Well, I'm sure you can see who would want this agenda pushing more than anyone else, right?

devwan2781d ago

Spot on.

I prefer a platform holder who is responsible with my personal information and activity details - I don't want it sold off to the highest bidder or dropped in the lap of some random 3rd party I don't approve of.
