Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn’s Naoki Yoshida Talks About Casual Players and Classic FF Elements

The Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn development team made a large effort to ensure that casual players that aren’t used to MMORPG will feel right at home in the game (often ruffling some feathers between the most elitist elements of the hardcore fanbase), and they also filled the game to the brim with classic Final Fantasy elements, like summons, magitek armors, chocobos, moogles and more.

mad respect for yoshi, he turned this game around and made FF relevant again with a mature storyline and great gameplay. Props and thnk you for the great mmo

Yeah i cant believe im saying this, but i cant wait for FF14 on the ps4. It's huge and will expand greatly. Hopefully it can hold me off till FF15

pompombrum4318d ago

SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY.. o wait he already did... NOW GIVE ME MY LIFE BACK! Seriously though, I've not been this hooked by an MMO since I last played WoW.

Capt-FuzzyPants4318d ago

I'm still torn on whether I should get this game on the PS4 or not. I love Final Fantasy, but have never played an MMO and I don't have a ton of time to sit down and play hours a day. It looks so fun though.

Luke_fon_Fabre4318d ago

Yeah. Me too. It looks good though. If I were to get into an MMO, I'd probably play this. This or Dragon Quest X (if that ever releases outside of Japan that is).

Swiftcricket4318d ago

Unlike XI, it is possible to sit down and do a few things in a short period of time. Really now that I think about it, most of the main methods of gaining exp on here are a bunch of quick little things (quests, leves, FATEs) and nothing really time consuming. Grinding for hours on random enemies in the world is pretty much useless now as it actually provides less experience than the things I mentioned above.

DA_SHREDDER4318d ago

Might as well wait for the ps4 version. Square said they are gonna bring it to the ps4 sooner than you think. Also, you have to buy the game again even if you bought it for the ps3. So ya. Maybe if they do the upgrade at a discount , but they haven't said anything about that.

Do you not see this happening during development? Like, why are we apologizing after the fact instead of stopping it during development?

Stopac2d ago

Criticism and reflection occur after the fact. The apology acknowledges the past criticisms with the new expansion and they're keeping transparency with players about it. Now that they've acknowledged it - it will be interesting to see what kind of cycle we'll get with a new expansion and I wonder if they're planning something special with beast master since they didn't mention it in the last live letter.

It's all good, as long as the price of the product decreases.

Stopac2d ago

The base game and expansion go on sale all the time and doesn't stay full price for very long since a new expansion is on the horizon.

If you're stating they should reduce the price of new expansions or the sub fee, no, that's not gonna happen lmao people aren't even complaining about that. They are criticizing the same old pattern of content that releases and how it is devolving into mediocracy.

"They are criticizing the same old pattern of content that releases and how it is devolving into mediocracy."

The product should be cheaper then.

I was unhappy with DT and have spent far less time in it than any other expansion but it's things like this that makes me respect Yoshi P. It's rare for such a high profile developer to be so candid in his assessment on a live game.

Stopac2d ago

Same, i've found my self resubbing every two patches instead of keeping it up. Don't own a home in the game so there's no point in keeping a constant sub going. The post story is getting interesting though.
