High School Story puts you in the shoes of a high school student who is tasked with building a brand new high school from scratch, AND with taking on Hearst High, which is the top school in your city.
High School Story has recently had a name change to Monster High @ High School Story for rather obvious reasons - that being the addition of new Monster High characters to the game. Each of the four characters from the Monster High series can now be added to your high school, where they can mingle and interact with all of your other characters.

Yes it can be an escape from reality it just depends what game your playing at the time.
If i was angry and depressed and played a violent game i dont think id calm down as much as playing say a racing game or sports game.
Probably say that many tend to escape into MMOs or RPGs. Create a new persona, make friends with people across the country or world, etc.
Exactly imagine how its gonna be when we got virtual reality.....come home had a shit day go into a virtual world of skyrim or something!
Open sandboxes are pretty therapeutic, so are platformers and the Gameboy Advanced :3
High School Story starts you off with only three types of classmates: the nerd, the jock, and the prep. This sure doesn't seem like a whole lot, but once you get the party central, you can get a whole lot more new types of classmates to join your school. After you unlock the ability to buy the artist hangout, you can unlock even more new classmates by using the party central.
