Peter Molyneux's top five games of all time

Peter Molyneux is such an icon when it comes to making games that it's easy to forget he really likes to play them too.

So with that in mind we wanted to know: if he was stranded on an island with just five games, which five would they be?

No surprises there with ICO, everyone should experience that at least once. Good to see him give The Last of Us an honorable mention and he couldn't be more right, if half-life 2 didn't push the envelope in character driven stories then there may never have been a Last of Us, at least not as early as we got it anyway.

I played Half Life 2 years after its release and its still one of my favourite games ever, that proves how good it is.

darthv724307d ago

I played it on my dreamcast just the other day. So sad it didnt get an 'official' release but it is still a great game to this day.

Blue shift is such a nice spin off as well.

A Much better list than I thought he would make.

Credibility point +1 moly

My top 5 would be completely different though, WoW would be in my top 10 probably. It just offered that much more than every game ever made.

Certainly there's factors other than the game itself that can make a game your favorite. Grim Fandango is one of my favorite games of all time not only because it was a great game, but it just conjures up the memory of my old apartment and my wife and I enjoying gaming together when she really wasn't a gamer at the time. There are terrible games that bring a smile to my face just because of good memories I associate with them.

Kalebninja4307d ago (Edited 4307d ago )

yes that game is phenomenal the rest i could've lived without playing like seriously...world of warcraft...clash of clans....half-life(it was good but not one of the greatest).

Lord_Sloth4307d ago

While not my favorite entry in the series (Majora's Mask) TP was a very solid and dramatic experience. It has some pretty fun bosses, sweet dungeons, great artistic designs, and all the fun gameplay we've come to know and love from Zelda. Let's not forget the horse combat.

The only real downsides IMO are not getting Epona's whistle until it's so late she's no longer relevant and the forced Wolf sections.

MONKEYDLUFFY4307d ago

Interesting. Not many list TP as their favorite. It's great but usaully its between OOT WW MM and LTTP

WeAreLegion4307d ago

"Peter Molyneux is such an icon when it comes to making games..."

I'm out.

Kalebninja4307d ago

where is kingdom hearts? that series is just.....amazing... and where is metal gear solid (i'd say final fantasy but i know that series isnt for everyone )

EXVirtual4307d ago

KH, FF and MGS are easily in my top 10 franchises and I think FFXV, KH3 and MGS5 will be the best games yet in there series.

Peter Molyneux recalls how Project Milo, the Kinect game with revolutionary promise, died a death

Vapourware can end up being the stuff of legend, like Rockstar's Agent, Star Wars 1313, or StarCraft: Ghost. Without ever seeing the light of day, these games never risked the possibility of being played and forgotten, and instead live on forever as the subjects of lengthy YouTube essays.

Still, Molyneux's most notable lost game (or tech demo, depending on who you asked at the time) was arguably Project Milo.

I can see the potential of the kinect hardware... its rather impressive tech, but it was just not meant to be for gaming. If anything, MS had a huge missed opportunity to have used it for the AR/VR projects.

S2Killinit21d ago

Missed opportunity? They lied. It was the biggest lie in gaming history.

merlox21d ago

You can use the Kinect as an SLS camera for paranormal investigations. So it wasn’t a complete failure.

Cacabunga21d ago (Edited 21d ago )

Remember Star Wars Kinect announcement? Biggest laughable acting seen

It was built on lies Peter...you know this.

isarai22d ago

Bro that thing NEVER existed, what we got was a concept video

Knushwood Butt21d ago

"Unfortunately, as we were developing Milo, so the Kinect device was being developed. And they realised that the device that Alex Kipman first showed off would cost $5,000 for consumers to buy.

"So they cost-reduced that device down to such a point, where the field-of-view...I think it was a minuscule field-of-view. In other words, it could only just see what's straight in front of you."

Hmm, exactly what tech was in it, that was cut, affected the development? It was only ever interpreting visual and audio inputs right? The xbox was processing those inputs.

Nor do I see how the field of view thing is relevant to the discussion.

isarai21d ago

Exactly! Tf kinda BS statement was that? i don't really see how fov is relevant at all, since when do you move all around a room while talking/interacting to someone?

Amplitude21d ago (Edited 21d ago )

This is entirely untrue. There was never a 5000 dollar Kinect prototype that could somehow use a wider field of view to scan and import generated in-game items and advance AI by over a decade. Anybody that fell for this was a stupid moron child, myself included. Anybody that falls for this lie now is a stupid moron child who doesn't realize that these people *only* know how to lie.

Simon's Quest is better than Symphony.

Levii_9235d ago

Hot damn that's a good list. The only one i never played is AOE2 and i never finshed Chrono Trigger but it was damn good.

Speaking of what's old but holds up amazingly well and plays like a dream.. i played Symphony of the Night for the first time in 2019.. yep that's right. It became one of my favourite games of all time that i replay almost every year. I couldn't believe how good it was. That is almost impossible for me with newer games let alone older ones. Truly a special gem.

LG_Fox_Brazil35d ago

That's a pretty fucking great list

__y2jb35d ago (Edited 35d ago )

The only one I’d disagree with is doom. It shows its age badly I think. After 5 minutes of play these days you put it down.
