Titanfall on PS4? EA hints at shooter rotation to compete with Activision

PSU: Titanfall, an Xbox One exclusive (for the time being), has garnered lots of attention for its graceful combat and narrative-driven multiplayer. Many wonder if the game is only a timed exclusive, as developer Respawn Entertainment has hinted that Titanfall could one day appear on PlayStation 4.

We may finally have our answer, inadvertently, from the horse's mouth.

Majin-vegeta3892d ago

For the millionth time everyone knows when M$ says it's exclusive 99.9% of the time it's (TIMED EXCLUSIVE).

xHeavYx3892d ago (Edited 3892d ago )

I'd rather play Killzone SF, or all the other amazing games coming to the PS4 that are not FPS.
By the time this game comes to PS4 (if it ever comes) people will have moved on

mewhy323892d ago

I'll just play Titalfall on my gaming PC, where i'll play any other bone software that I may be interested in. I'll play TRUE exclusives on my PS4.

JackOfAllBlades3892d ago

Agreed. At least Killzone has a story

malokevi3892d ago

Maybe this means that the next installment of Titanfall will come out on PS4? Seems logical to me...

FlameHawk3892d ago

@malokevi, Titanfall is basically CoD with mechs, and it will sell a lot, do you really think EA, let me say it again, EA, all about the green, are not going to put Titanfall on PS4, PS4 which has more pre-orders than Xbox One? Don't be mad there aren't any real "exclusives" except Halo and Forza.

LoveOfTheGame3892d ago

@FlameHawk
EA? You mean THE EA. The same EA that does not own the rights to this ip and cannot decide whether it goes multiplat.

It will most likely end up on PS4 also, but not on EA's terms.

Also, let's not talk about real exclusives when PS4 has more PC games than Xbox One does.

malokevi3892d ago

"Don't be mad there aren't any real "exclusives" except Halo and Forza. "

lol... what? DR3, KI, Ryse.... and those are just at launch, kiddo.

Why be mad? I'll be playing Titanfall on my Xbox One come march.

:p

Muerte24943892d ago

@LoveoftheGame

"Also, let's not talk about real exclusives when PS4 has more PC games than Xbox One does."

Planetside 2 made by SOE
DC universe also made by SOE
(future Hopefully) Everquest Next by SOE

I'll be playing Killzone ShadowFall so I don't really care. If EA's keeping this game in rotation, then it very well is an EA IP. COD with mechs. But since these things are so much like PC, allow freaking mods!!!!!!

blackbeld3892d ago (Edited 3892d ago )

"Many wonder if the game is only a timed exclusive,
as developer Respawn Entertainment has hinted that Titanfall could one day appear on PlayStation "

So it's clear a timed exclusive. We already know this but does it got the potential to beat COD? I don't think so if it's stays timed exclusive.

ZHZ903892d ago

@xHeavYx, while I totally agree with you and KZ:SF(Epecially) and Destiny are best FPS to my eyes still Titanfall is a game that would make some PS4 gamers happy.

@LoveOfTheGame,
"EA? You mean THE EA. The same EA that does not own the rights to this ip and cannot decide whether it goes multiplat. It will most likely end up on PS4 also, but not on EA's terms. "

But EA is publishing it, and even still Respawn would like money as well and PS4 has good online.

"Also, let's not talk about real exclusives when PS4 has more PC games than Xbox One does."

I don't know what you mean by this
If you mean PS4 has more PC games like Warframe, Blacklight etc than X1 like Titanfall then ok. But if you mean MS has real exclusives than Sony does then you're wrong, Sony has more games in development(30 games) and 20 of them in 1st year of PS4 while MS has only 15 and about more than half we already know them.

@malokevi,
"lol... what? DR3, KI, Ryse.... and those are just at launch, kiddo."

You are right that those you mentioned are real exclusives but you didn't get what FlameHawk was using Forza and Halo as few examples. Btw launch titles aren't everything if you think X1 launch titles is better than PS4. You do know that Ryse and DR3 were supposed to be on X360 that is why MS dropped exclusive support for X360 while Sony still didn't drop exclusive support by giving PS3 fans great games like TLOU.

@Xbots, this is PS4 article. Go with your butthurt troll some where else.

pedrof933892d ago

Killzone anytime than Titanfall.

Though Titanfall seems interesting. But you cant compare a Ps exclusive quality to a... multi-plat ?

DeadlyFire3892d ago

They could always pull a Destiny. Delay Titanfall for Q4 2014 and release across all platforms. Even WiiU.

Destiny was going to be xbox720 exclusive in its first year. Then the next year. Its coming to PS4 at launch! That sure did change fast.

malokevi3892d ago

"You are right that those you mentioned are real exclusives but you didn't get what FlameHawk was using Forza and Halo as few examples. "

That sentence makes zero sense to me.

AngelicIceDiamond3892d ago

@Exactly the unique line up of PlayStation games announced and unannounced is where its at.

Instead of worrying about MS games I'm more intrigued on what Sony will announce in the future.

Paytaa3892d ago

@DeadlyFire Destiny was never going to be exclusive to anything because they were acquired by Activision in 2010. It was always intended to hit Xbox and Playstation. If Microsoft was smart they would buy Respawn to have a new flagship title.

jmac533892d ago

@LoveoftheGame, you are mixing up publishing rights with intellectual property rights. EA has the publishing rights for the game but they can't turn around and hand the development of TitanFall 2 to another developer. But they can determine how the game is marketed and which platform it goes to after The MS moneyhat expires.

nveenio3892d ago

I'll probably eventually try Titanfall on PC, but not if it requires Windows 8. I'm not interested in Windows 8.

FlunkinMonkey3892d ago (Edited 3892d ago )

Exactly... Although i do think it looks fun, Titanfall doesn't even have a damn SP!! This game epitomises the Xbox Bro mentality.

Mechs were done in KZ3, and is graphically superior on the PS3 i might add.

No thanks.

I actually think Titanfall looks like great fun and the critics seem to be saying the same.

Im getting a PS4 so I hope that the exclusivity with Microsoft wont last long. Really don't want to miss this one.

(I know I could get it for PC but my PC is s**t)

-Foxtrot3892d ago

I think it looks fun, but I think critics are over hyping it like it's the next best thing since bacon sandwiches

It's not something we havent seen before. It's a typical FPS with mechs and wall running

Ducky3892d ago

^ "It's a typical FPS with mechs and wall running"

... so, not a typical FPS then?

Thisisjuju3892d ago

@ -Foxtrot

It could well be overhyped, seems to be a standard practice in the industry as it stands.

I will try and play this at a friends before I pick it up to make my own judgements.

Raf1k13892d ago

I kind of agree with -Foxtrot.

The game seems like it's still got the CoD formula but with Mechs and some verticality. Everything I've read or heard from the gaming media sounds overhyped.

I am looking forward to playing the game though but I really don't see it being ground-breaking.

malokevi3892d ago (Edited 3892d ago )

@fox

A typical FPS in that you look down the barrel of a gun and shoot people from the first person perspective? In the sense that your character moves forward, throws grenades, uses weapons, and tries to kill players on the enemy team?

I guess that means that ALL FPS' are typical FPS'. Go figure...

LoveSpuds3892d ago

Same as you chief, I am sticking with Sony and so am really looking forward to playing seeing Titanfall a few months after the XB1 release.

I am lucky to have a pretty nice PC but I have more workmates playing on console than PC so this is where I want to play it.

-Foxtrot3892d ago (Edited 3892d ago )

Ducky

It's still a typical FPS at heart but those small gameplay features don't make it different.

It's still a FPS they are just adding small things to try and seperate it but it still plays the same.

If the wall running, jetpacks and mechs were the main features while the shooting elements were secondary then it wouldn't be a typical FPS would it.

Desinty is a good example of this, it's a FPS but you have class types which mixes things up abit...same goes with Borderlands.

Plus how can critics call this game ground breaking when it doesn't even have a single player. I mean come out, gaming journalists when reviewing a single player game usually scold it because it doesn't have multiplayer...but the other way round it's totally fine...I don't think so.

Ducky3892d ago (Edited 3892d ago )

^ The wall-running and mechs are a pretty central feature. You only have to watch the gameplay videos which show many examples of someone wall running to gain the upper hand in an encounter.

The titans are hi-lighted by the game's name itself, the cover art and the shown gameplay.
I'm not sure which game you've been looking at to say that these are just small things.

... and you agree that knocking off points just because a game lacks multiplayer is wrong right? Then why do you want to see the same thing happen if a game lacks single-player?
Your response to injustice is injustice, which is a pretty negative way of handling things.

Even then, most reviewers usually knock off points when a game has bad multi/single player that feels tacked on. Otherwise, there are games like Bioshock Infinite that get high praise despite not having a multiplayer.

ArchangelMike3892d ago (Edited 3892d ago )

Exactly. There are no longer any 3rd party exclusive First Person Shooters. The whole industry knows this already. Especially when it's EA. Titanfall will come to the PS4 and PC. Just let Microsoft's 6 months exclusive launch window run it's course.

Darrius Cole3892d ago

^^This

It's not about Microsoft as much as it's about EA.

SuperLupe3892d ago

Everyone knew too that the Xbox hadnt passed FCC certification.

Oh wait my bad.

That said, if you guys beg a little more maybe MS/EA may just give in.

Thisisjuju3892d ago (Edited 3892d ago )

I think EA seeing the huge numbers of PS4's flying off the shelves will be all the motivation they need to release this for PS4.

The only thing I can imagine that would get in the way of a release is the focus on cloud hosted online servers.

I'm not sure if Sony have the infrastructure to implement this like on the XB1? Time will tell.

Raf1k13892d ago

I really don't think it'd be difficult to port this game to use normal servers instead of MS's fancy cloud ones which really don't seem that fancy at all.

I'm looking for a good FPS to buy next gen but this game not having a campaign is a bit of a deal breaker for me.

turgore3892d ago

Especially since its published by EA.

Eddie201013892d ago (Edited 3892d ago )

Dead Rising 3 (blah), Ryse, and Titanfall will all eventually be on the PS4 with some minor features added just like 90% of all Xbox exclusives do.

If Titanfall is as good as people are saying I will just get it for my PC, where it will probably be better than the Xbox One version.

PS4 will have many other games, some being true exclusives, in the meantime.

quenomamen3892d ago

They can keep it on X1 for all I care, looks like the new COD to me. Only the first one will be good, from there it's all down hill with nothing but expansion packs every year.

Tapioca Cold3892d ago (Edited 3892d ago )

Says who? You? Who are you?

Proof or stfu. Doesnt get any more simple.

Majin-vegeta3892d ago (Edited 3892d ago )

Titanfall, the game from the creators of the Call of Duty series, is coming to PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One - but not PlayStation 3 or PlayStation 4.

The multiplayer-only sci-fi shooter looks like a great fit for Microsoft's always-online Xbox One, but amid rumours that Xbox exclusivity has been secured for just a year, will Titanfall ever come to PlayStation?

That's the question we posed to both Respawn and publisher EA at E3 this week.

Let's start with Respawn. Lead artist Joel Emslie, who followed Vince Zampella and Jason West out of Activision's Infinity Ward after the pair were fired, told Eurogamer the development team wants Titanfall to be played by as many people as possible.

"When you boil it down, we would love to be everywhere, but we're just starting out," Emslie explained. "It comes down to quality, not quantity. We have a fantastic relationship with Microsoft. It just boiled down to, okay, how can we hit this as hard as can and get it on as many platforms as possible and deliver the quality, the 60 hertz, out of the gate? That was the goal.

"We of course would want to go further in the future with stuff, but we're just starting out. It's pretty frustrating! We want to be everywhere. We want to put Titanfall everywhere, but that's where we're at. We're starting there."

Microsoft's Xbox One is an always-online console and connects to the internet once every 24 hours. It essentially guarantees developers that players will be connected at all times, and games benefit from the 300,000 servers Microsoft has installed to boost Xbox Live.

"We're making a multiplayer-focused game so you want to be online," Emslie added. "It's plain and simple. We're really in love with the Xbox One. Obviously it's more power on a console, and we're going to take full advantage of it."

(READ THIS SON)LET'S PUT IT PLAINLY: WILL PLAYSTATION OWNERS EVER SEE Titanfall?

"It's definitely not out of the question," Emslie replied. "We have a huge appreciation for the fans. Coming out and showing it to everybody, we're super nervous and wanted to make sure everybody loved it. We love all our fans, whatever console they support.

There's your proof.

" Activision, who has numerous developers working on Call of Duty to ensure a new one is released every year."

Boy are we aware, lol.

Chaostar3892d ago (Edited 3892d ago )

If they want to compete with COD or other top teir online shooters (in sales) they will HAVE to release on all platforms.

It's as simple as that.

Tony-A3892d ago

It's kind of obvious at this point. You aren't aiming to compete with Activision if you're developing a game meant for only Xbox platforms.

The PS4 seems to have a much better grip on the gaming audience right now so it would be dumb to do that. Hell, I even bet they regret that deal and wished they could've done it with Sony instead. With Sony fanboys on its back, the hype for that game would have gone right along with the console.

Funantic13892d ago

That applies to Killzone SF also. It won't compete with Battlefield 4 or COD: Ghosts releasing at the same time and being a PS4 exclusive. Killzone won't even compare to Titanfall. People who have played both Titanfall and Killzone said that Titanfall is better.

nosferatuzodd3892d ago

Really go take a look at killzone preorder number and look at Titan fall and say that again Titan fall is at the bottom of the list on next gen game pre orders

Although the late 2000s Turok wasn't my favorite, I would love a new entry. Open world survival with shotguns and dinosaurs. Not sure how we'd get the fusion cannon, but that would be pretty sweet too.

MadLad593d ago

Lol

All of these games are pretty much universally praised. Outside of Timeshift I literally own all of these.

XIII, The Darkness 2, Far Cry: Blood Dragon, Timesplitters: future perfect, Bulletstorm are awesome games

An ode to Titanfall: The last twitch shooter I'll probably ever enjoy

Respawn Entertainment is Discontinuing Sales of Original Titanfall

Sales for the original Titanfall are being discontinued.
It will be pulled from subscription services on March 1, 2022.

Ethereal874d ago

Physical media. Unfortunately the way games are going these days game servers will eventually be shut down and you can stare at the menu and wish you could play the game again.

littletad874d ago

This is why reading is so important. Nothing to do with digital or physical media. The game, which is online only, is being delisted because of DDOS and other hacker attacks. The case got so bad that only six players in the world log on. For PC. Rather than fix it, they continued to sell the game, broken as it is, and only now just decided to call it quits. But please, go on thinking what you will.

Ethereal872d ago

I'm aware of the DDOS attacks and that this case is not typical. This game would eventually have it's servers shutdown regardless of the current situation so that is a moot point. My comment was in a general sense and that there are instances in which games can be preserved physically when official support ends.

Let's recap your first sentence. I said, "the way GAMES are going these days" indicating a broader stroke than just this game. I agree, reading IS important. I was simply stating the obvious downsides of the digital marketplaces and online only trends in games these days. I could even make the argument that the online only offering which has allowed hacker manipulation has impacted the preservation of this great game. My comment is valid in the general sense and thank you for your permission to continue to think what I will.
