Sony Announces Additional Indie Exclusives at Gamescom for PS4 Launch

Sony announced a slew of indie console exclusive releases planned for the PS4, PS Vita, and even some PS3 titles at this year’s Gamescom. There are some big titles planned as Volume, Tom Bithell’s followup to Thomas Was Alone, will debut exclusively on PS4 and Vita. Muse Games is planning an exclusive console port of Guns of Icarus for the PS4. Vlambeer is bringing their next title Wasteland Kings to the console.

That's nice.

What's the deal with people not feeling that indie games, are games too? They offer new and different experiences, compared to your typical game.

Seems to me that some of you guys feel the need to downplay the fact that Sony kept the game announcements coming, showed support for ALL of their systems, and remained true to their vision for next gen. A console for gamers.

Jaydepps4323d ago

I'm really excited to see the influx of indies in next gen. Honestly though both consoles are taking steps in the right direction with Sony going first. Microsoft hs been getting better as of late as they have been amending their policies that were against indies. I think indies will have a strong place next generation and conferences like these further prove that.

On a side note i did find it funny that Minecraft is coming to PS4 now too.

Game4life4323d ago

I was hoping minecraft would come to playstation. and im glad it is. i've played the hell out of it but i love building things. its so addictive.

on a side note, i really hope it has a platinum just because i love it so much

CocoWolfie4323d ago

hotline miami 2 too, the sequal to a lot of peoples favorite game of that year :p

Bigpappy4323d ago

Sounds like a nice way to steal those android and I phone customers.

I for some reason am having a hard time getting excited about having lots more indie game to brows through. I am happy for the opportunity it give indies, but I really don't want a lot of clutter in the market place when I go to fine what I really want to play.

darx4323d ago

Guacamelee and Mark of the Ninja. 2 Great indie games.

starchild4323d ago

Yeah, those are great games. I play them on the PC, but either way they are great.

MasterCornholio4323d ago

@Starchild

" I play them on the PC"

Not Guacamelee since its exclusive to the PS3 and the Vita. Unless your using an emulator.

Couldn't agree more. I use to be off-put by indies too (for no good reason like most people) until I finally gave Minecraft a try and loved it. And now I own many indie games and some provide more value than many AAA titles I own except I paid far less for them.

Just because a game may not have top notch graphics and costs less doesn't always mean it's not a good game that you can't put many, many hours into. Just like how a game that has the best graphics and had millions poured into it is sometimes complete trash.

Games are games. People complaining about them need to expand their horizons a little more.

HarryMasonHerpderp4323d ago

So true, people whine about getting military shooters all the time and when we get something different they whine about that too. Indie games are keeping the industry creative.

andibandit4323d ago (Edited 4323d ago )

Are you kidding me???

The most POWERFUL game console ever released,
boasting 50% faster gpu than the nearest competition, and cutting edge GDDR5 Ram

and what do we get to go with this BEAST of a machine??

INDIE Games!!!

WHO the F over at Sony, thought that would make for a good conference!?. OMG the xbots are gonna have a field day with this.

JunioRS1014323d ago

And on top of that, Sony has yet to reveal any of their major major AAA projects.

Which is actually really smart, because why would you show your hand when third party devs are bridging the console generation for you?

And ND just released TLoU a few months ago, can we really expect to hear from them this year??

My thoughts are this: I'll have plenty of indies and plenty of third parties to keep me busy until next year, where Sony will likely come out with one or two of their big guns and steal the show again. They already won this year with all the games they've shown alongside their flawless console reveal, so they're just playing the cool cat while Microsoft grabs at straws.

ND will reveal their project to compete with the likes of Halo or Gears or Fable. Why waste any hype now when it's just going to die down by the time Microsoft wants to show some of its own big cards?

indie games are fun and cheap i dont see why such a big deal

betrayed gamer4323d ago

its not a big deal, its just that finding a worthwhile indie game is at times hard. yea they are cheap, but i would rather have another form of infamous,or skyrim or heck how about a fusion of mass effect, skyrim and infamous with a mix of borderlands for cooperative gameplay. i cant see an indie dev doing that. when i hear indie dev i think binding of issac and minecraft, or braid. those games are great time killers but i want something fuller and richer with actual characters, and character deveoplment.

Rimeskeem4323d ago

xbots are just finding ways to make the ps4 some how sound bad

betrayed gamer4323d ago

@2.1.1
Its not really the "xbots" as you put it, its some gamers in general that dont want more indie games then actual full out games. like i said more indie games arent a bad thing could have great cross play between the vita and the ps4.

modesign4323d ago

gonna listen to my chemical romance while i play that game.

imXify4323d ago

Murasaki Baby, Rime and The Binding of Isaac for me !

Jaydepps4323d ago

Those all look awesome, and I am kinda interested in trying out Hotline Miami 2 and maybe Shadow of the Beast.

SuperLupe4323d ago

This indie craze from Sony is going to get stale real quick. Dont know about you guys but I'd take 4 AAA games over 20 indie games.

I buy a console for games like Gears, UC, Mass Effect etc. Indie games are just a bonus in between such great games, NOT the main course like Sony are trying to push. Very lame from Sony IMO.

Jaydepps4323d ago (Edited 4323d ago )

I think they have announced a solid number of AAA titles as well. Driveclub Infamous, Killzone, Deep Down, Knack, The Order: 1886, Dark Sorcerer, DCOU, Final Fantasy XIV, and Tekken Revolution aren't a bad bunch of games just to name some.

These indie games just help beef up the game library by offering genres and games that gamers otherwise would have to seek elsewhere.

ABeastNamedTariq4323d ago

Exactly. Sony's giving variety across the board.

MasterCornholio4323d ago

One error in your comment.

Dark Sorcerer is a tech demo by Quantic Dreams however they are going to produce a game with that tech.

Blackcanary4323d ago

i don't think there trying to push indies at all. When it comes to AAA titles we know sony have that in the bag just look at all the AAA first party titles on the PS3 and you will get the same on the PS4. I just think sony is given the same love to indies as they do to the first party's.

GribbleGrunger4323d ago (Edited 4323d ago )

I don't know why you'd be that concerned, they're not on your console of choice anyway, and even when they come to it, you won't want them ... will you?

Agree with #1 it's what brought me to the series. Gotta say i prefer the Japanese settings over Hawaii though

Profchaos1h ago

I enjoyed Hawaii but it was underutilised

RhinoGamer887h ago

No Lost Judgment and Judgement?! Need them in here.

shinXseijuro6h ago

It’s all a matter of preferences but I have to agree with you Judgement clears Yakuza ishin and man without a name smh so weird choices up there lol

Profchaos1h ago

Fantastic games but they are more spin off games imo and deserving of their own franchise

TheColbertinator5h ago

My favorite was 0 but Yakuza 5 had my two favorite locations Sapporo and Osaka.

Profchaos1h ago

Ill be honest i enjoyed infinite wealth but it absolutely does nkt deserve to be as high as it is on this list. Yes I liked the switch to Hawaii but the story was fairly weak until around three quarters in.

I don't want to spoil anything but the misdirection can be seen from space in this one.

Square makes some very weird decisions.

CrashMania1d 11h ago

This is really stupid and just baffling, the explanation for it is also a big non answer, very disappointing.

jeromeface22h ago

its pretty obvious they lost the source code

Scissorman1d 10h ago

they are so going to try to sell the extra content later down the line.

Eonjay1d 8h ago

Square Enix has really gone down the drain. Even FF7: Rebirth, while being an incredible acheivment seemed very sloppy in some areas... namely performance. These folks wonder why their games don't sell but aren't putting in a decent effort.

FinalFantasyFanatic1d 8h ago

It's been like that for a while, they've just gotten progressively worse over time, this game is a bit of a monkey's paw situation. You get the remaster, but you don't get the War Of The Lions content in exchange.

-Gespenst-1d 7h ago

They seem to be suggesting that people didn't like the new stuff in WotL, hence it's non-inclusion, but they're probably secretly planning to add it as DLC down the line, they just don't want to tell people that because they think it'll get an even worse reaction. When they do eventually add it, they'll be like, "We listened". Of course, it won't be free though, so they'll still get flak for it. On the other hand, maybe I'm too cynical.

ZeekQuattro1d 5h ago

I could see that happening actually.
