Xbox 360 continues to maintain its lead in the U.S. console market. Xbox 360 sold 107,000 units, more than any other console in the U.S., making July the 31st consecutive month Xbox 360 was the best-selling console in the U.S.
Seems legit. Xbox One will replace my old 360 :)
Yeah clearly the 360 is become the gamers choice in America. Shows the brand is still strong it will be interesting to see how this translates over the first year and beyond for the x1.
Hell yeah. Go Xbox. It's funny it really doesn't matter what you read online especially on n4g. Xbox is a success and the people's champion out in the real world.
the rest of the world asks u.. what the hell North America?
i'll gve it another 2-3 months to remain at #1 until PS4 arrives
Well it's New.Xbox.com, so I can't see any hint of bias there. Edit: Didn't want to waste any bubbles on you, care to explain how they say that it's the #1 console in US when Nintendo 3DS has held that title for a while now?
yeah Hammad but its not an opinion piece its just facts based on NPD. You OK Buddy?
@hammad for the 1st time i do agree with @jokes the source is NPD
Welp, according to Hammad: Console = Handheld Whatever you say there captain.
How sad that even though they sell more consoles per month they are still in 3rd place behind a console that came out an entire year after the 360...Oh yeah that's right they would rather just tout that they sold more per month and pretend they aren't in 3rd in total sales
Deadpoolio.. I look at it different... Remember those xbxox ps2 numbers? Yea.. Nothing like that anymore now is it..
@Convas: Uh, no. According to Hammad: Handheld=Console And it is, so yeah...
Well.. to be fair. One can also argue that the ps3 was the top selling console in japan, korea, hong kong, singapore, phillipines, france, germany, italy, etc etc for so many consecutive months compare to 360's success in only 1 country. I know its npd but since ppl are arguing sales I'm just putting out another persepective. While I do congratulate Microsoft for their sales in america, I also gotta question if they care about their gaming brand on a global scale. I mean, if sony focused only in 1 country and shut their ears on the rest of the world, I'm sure they'll be no. 1 as well. Or no.2 whatever u want to put them as.
@kreate: "Well.. to be fair. One can also argue that the ps3 was the top selling console in japan, korea, hong kong, singapore, phillipines, france, germany, italy, etc etc for so many consecutive months compare to 360's success in only 1 country." Well to be *really* fair. The combined marketshare of all those countries listed is a fraction of the largest console gaming market in the world, the US! In addition, NPD is considered as official as it gets when it comes to sales numbers. I'm not aware of the other countries have similar numbers released. If not, then what are the news to report? We do get numbers from Japan, every now and then, but we don't say "oh, my God, Japan isn't the world!". "While I do congratulate Microsoft for their sales in america, I also gotta question if they care about their gaming brand on a global scale. " What idiot thinks MS don't? They are going to Gamescom and sell their products on a pretty global scale!
@nukeitall *'The combined marketshare of all those countries listed is a fraction of the largest console gaming market in the world, the US!' individually they're smaller, but combined, the world's market is larger than the US. *'They are going to Gamescom and sell their products on a pretty global scale!' having a product available on a global scale doesnt mean it will sell. its just there. they should make a effort to sell it in foreign lands. looking at the sales, the entire planet doesnt seem to care about xbox games other than america. giving the benefit of the doubt, the next in line is UK than Canada. im just saying microsoft should make more variety of games other than halo and gears. cuz different ppl want different games. they should also make some games themself than just relying on 3rd party companies to make games for them. i have a xbox360. there's nothing to play on it since 2011 other than kinect games. so im currently collecting old games that are dirt cheap cuz there was plenty of games from 2006-2009 for the 360.
Kreate discussing foreign sales in a NPD thread, where NPD has officially been used by both companies in the past to reference sales data. Yet you rattle off all these other countries and provide not 1 link to backup your claim....sure simple math points to ps3 is doing better overall in those regions for year end totals but there is nothing that says by how much in each country and for how long in other words 360 might have been up a few months out of the year in a couple locations but maybe ps3 wins big on holidays without specific data we cant compare apples to apples with NPD info. oh I know why don't I just take your word for it.
@jokesonyou ur right. apologies for bringing foreign sales arguement in a npd article. as far as links goes... which one do u need?
Well you said this: "One can also argue that the ps3 was the top selling console in japan, korea, hong kong, singapore, phillipines, france, germany, italy, etc etc for so many consecutive months compare to 360'" -So besides Japan how about a link with month to month sales data for ANY of the other countries YOU mentioned? Im actually very curious because its a given Japan identifies itself with a Japanese centric gaming culture that nintendo and sony thrive in but I've never seen anything specifically for the other countries.
@jokesonyou if ps3 outsold xbox360 in worldwide sales, but gets outsold by xbox360 in america, where do u think the ps3 sales came from? u saw the npd articles, xbox360 dominates ps3 for 31 consecutive months. well how would a ps3 outsell the xbox360 in worldwide sales? they all came from japan? i just did a quick google search and here are a few links ive found. im not gonna bother doing any intensive research cuz i really dont care enough where i want to spend much time on this matter. http://n4g.com/news/921700/... http://n4g.com/news/91653/s... http://www.mcvuk.com/news/r... http://www.mcvpacific.com/n... and i dont know if u care, but vgchartz is always available. i just didnt want to use vgchartz cuz its somewhat flimsy.
Good for you, if you didn't have such a bad history of kissing Microsofts ass, maybe you wouldn't have gotten so many disagrees.
25 million to 70+ million next-gen2next-gen growth is a WIN for Microsoft..They going nowhere...regardless of the fanboys whining that have no intentions of getting the Xone. It started rough loosing money but have been on the greener side of things the last couple years.. After all the bottom line has been growth with the brand..
If you thought the backlash from the X1 reveal was simply sony fanboys, you are in for a rude awakening. 30k likes and 20k dislikes on a youtube video is far beyond the reach of a group of fanboys, its real customer resentment. and were talking a video from a week ago, post all the 180s, there is still angry former customers.
Trust me, I'll be playing the XBone when it launches with 3-4 games pre-ordered on that faithful day. There will be nothing rude about it. I'll let you and others with no interest fight over sales.
And then RROD will make you replace it again. And then RROD will make you replace the replacement. And then RROD will make you replace the one that was replaced by a replacement. Or you could just get PS4 and PC. Your welcome.
Cool when it is number one worldwide. Come back and talk to me.
Ahh...you mean the Wii.... got it. As to the numbers, not a great month for anyone.
@ after thought u mean like this right , http://www.vgchartz.com/wee... boom baby boom.
Where are you going with this? 3DS is first, then PS3 is second.
@hammadthebeast I didn't mention any console I replied to afterthoughts comment and yes 3ds is 1st ps3 2nd and 360 ummm at 3rd not 1st. it is 1st in usa ONLY . so when its 1st world wide then I thinks it can boast about sales in consecutive times . its not like its a wide margin then maybe I can see them boasting. 3ds is on fire. ps3 is on a roll and 360 is really losing its steam .
Wait, I thought it was 3ds according to this article http://n4g.com/news/1333986... Which one is it?
I thought it was the 3DS? I guess they mean home consoles, duh. Good for them though.
I just read that the 3DS is dominating all.... I don't think they are comparing the handhelds then!
xbox 360 needs to get as many hits in as possible because next gen is all ps4 baby. hope the rest of you guys are switching to the ps4 or its gonna be a long boring lame next gen for ya.
Why is that? I've more interesting games on the X1 so far.
Ha Like what?
sad thats about all ur gonna get . make em last.
5 agrees 9 disagrees looks like you are wrong buddy.
Say what you want about them, but that it impressive.
Awesome. Now it'll be interesting to see how microsoft's 3rd home console performs. Historically, a company's 3rd console is where things go really bad for them as sega's Saturn, Nintendo's n64, and Sony's ps3 have all proven. Wonder if Microsoft can break the cycle.
Reminds me of the sophomore slump for pro quarterbacks, or the madden curse. It is interesting, its so hard to predict. The 360 is defying logic all the time, no games, yet still selling like hotcakes lol.
And yet still in 3rd place for overall lifetime sales
The 360 probably second when it comes to growth...from one Gen to the Next.. They were rookies last gen...
I was saying in regards to Americans, it is killing the ps3 in NA
@Deadpoolio Its first place in the worlds biggest video market. 2nd/3rd place is debatable since Nintendo has thrown in the towel already with the Wii and now focused on the Wii U after almost 3 years of declining sales. Heck even first place is debatable, only a couple of hundred thousand units behind the PS3 so its not like its a big lead.
So maybe limiting launch countries is actually a REALLY smart Idea...judging by numbers, XB1 could do really well if it only focused on the US, then expanded out as it was profitable....if I were MS, I would see about trying to launch in China now that they got rid of the console ban...esp since Chinese have a really tense relationship with Japan... http://online.wsj.com/artic... US has a better track record importing into China...getting the better share of Chinese gamers would give MS even deeper pockets than they already have (which is already crushing Sony...) at that point MS could do whatever they wanted.
It's not a smart ideas, although Sony hasn't confirmed their launch countries yet, I'm pretty sure they are launching in those Tier 2 countries MS didn't find so important. You see launching in the big markets + the smaller markets is an even better idea as you can get your console a worldwide presence. PS4 seems to be doing pretty well in the US already and that is just with pre-orders.
MS NEVER said anything about those countries not being important...the simple fact that they attempted to launch to begin with says they are important....there is a lot more going into a launch than we may think...At first XB1 was getting smashed by PS4 and now they are gaining more support, but maybe based on initial pre-orders MS found that they couldn't support all pre-orders and those countries had the least...MS Will launch in those countries, but it might just take more time.
so they dont have their shit sorted out and r just rushing this console out.
Ya but good luck getting any of xbone internet, tv features to work in China ...
*in the U.S Now what about UK/Europe/Japan? But I guess it's good news right?
Amazing what Xbox has been able to accomplish in the last 10 years. Incredible. As an Xbox guy, can't wait for the X1.
And what exactly is that? Coming in last place with a year head start? M$ was given a Golden opportunity (pun intended) and they blew it, and they had to settle for bronze. But they deserve to lose and I don't feel sorry for them and their bots. I'm just glad I left that retarded fanbase and sinking ship. They're too stupid to know what gamers really want. Hint: Its not Doritos. And besides who cares about he US. You don't hear Nintendo and Sony bragging about how they won in Japan, so why does M$ brag about the obvious. I guess they are as clingy as their fans and need some reassuring lies to keep themselves happy.
Uhh what? Jeezz. You angry just because i'm praising the Xbox. lol
Do you take this personally or something? It seems to really hit hard to see Microsoft with some type of success. Lets put this in perspective. Nintendo has been a beast in the gaming biz since the 80's. Known brand... Sony was on it's second system with the PS2. Dominated that era in sales..including the US. Then comes along the software based Microsoft. Everyone knew they didn't do hardware so how could they compete against the veterans Nintendo and Sony(at the time they were on top of the world and Sony hardware was at its most popular)? The first Xbox did terrible...what was..24 million consoles sold? Sounds about right. Finished a distant third. They release their second console and despite having territories where it doesn't sell, which in my opinion negates the year head start, ate into a huge chunk of Sony's PS2 era install base. You look at it as being in 3rd place. I look at it as them capturing oodles of Sony's install base in only their 2nd generation in gaming. Also with Sony's brand name being what it was. That's significant to establish yourself against the likes of Nintendo and Sony in only your second gen in the gaming biz. It also doesn't take a genius to see that Microsoft will never outsell Nintendo or Sony worldwide because of places it simply doesn't sell well..IE Japan. They didn't blow anything in terms of solidifying themselves...in that short amount of time they've forced Sony to establish online, trophies, branching out the system from more than just games, etc. Your comment about bragging...Nintendo and Sony are both Japanese companies...so that in itself should tell you why they do the things they do when it comes to publicity. Culture..Culture...Culture.
Increasing a user base by 50 million + in one generation is not a success......sorry I'm confused, maybe you could explain your logic. Sony dominated the ps2 era with 150 million + consoles sold worldwide. Now with the 360/ps3 sales are basically neck and neck. I call that a monumental effort on Microsoft's part. Considering how established the PlayStation name had become.
funny you guys didnt mention how many of those sales were ppl who lost their console to rrod , and to say that the year headstart didnt help is really naive, ppl had a next gen itch and playstation wasnt there to satisfy it hence so many turned to xbox. and now even with all these odds in their favour and microsoft s resources all the xbox has to show for it is leading sales in 1 country for 1 gen cause next gen sure as hell doesn't look as favourable to them.
Its been first place in the worlds biggest market for almost 3 years now. I say that's something to be proud of if I was MS. The PS3 is in last place in the worlds biggest market but that's debatable since the Wii fad died over two years ago and fast becoming faded memory.
Saying xbox is number one in its home country is like bragging about how you're biggest, buffest guy living in your mom's basement. Unless you have roomates in her basement or live with some other strange men down there, of course you're going to be the biggest and baddest. Like I said, I don't see Nintendo and Sony bragging about how xbox only sold 3 consoles in Japan and how they slaughtered their murican competition.
31 months, a damn long time.
The Brand is still strong..by the time these people upgrade we might have new consoles out..but I have a feeling the XOne will be here a lot longer..and will be cheaper eventually for those waiting to upgrade.... 31 Months in the US..pretty good for a Second gen console that escape RROD issues which could of crippled the brand... 25million to 70+ million next-gen2next-gen growth is a WIN for Microsoft..They going nowhere...
If they go the subscription route ready for xbox one. Let say 300 with 24 months of xbox live "premium" which would include a real challenger to cable tv over the internet.I would buy one day one.
I assume we get halo next year and a price drop on that xbox one so I will wait.
Xbox must challenge cable to in order to win the console race.
Hmmmmm! I am pretty sure the 3Ds took the number one spot....I'm just saying .
3rd place? LOL. Last gen they came in second, this time they're in last after having came out a year early. M$ is the laughingstock of the gaming universe. And this upcoming generation will be even harder for them. Nintendo beat them in the casual market with the Wii and Sony beat them with hardcore games and with variety on the PS3. M$ is just a one dimensional brand. Halo, Gears, Forza and thats it. They'be been around since 2001 and you can count the number of franchises they have on one hand. But M$ is still a winner! I mean 3rd place is quite an accomplishment!
