PlayStation Universe reviews OPEN ME! the augmented reality game for PlayStation Vita.
The Vita Lounge - Augmented reality (AR) games tend to spark a reaction in people, and more often than not it’s a chilling shudder down the spine. In some ways similar to the 3D push, augmented reality titles have been around for longer than you think and have yet never really become a fully realised or supported type of game. Nintendo bundled in 6 AR cards with the 3DS and yet, beyond special features, it hasn’t really taken hold.
Edge:At its best, Open Me will make you wonder why developers don’t harness the power of Augmented Reality more often. At its worst, it provides the answer. It’s a fine game, hamstrung by the limitations of the format: the deviousness of its puzzles should be enjoyably frustrating, but often they’re simply irritating, crossing the line between demanding and arduous.
GodisaGeek: "AR titles are commonly ugly, inconsistent and generally boring. Sure, Open Me! isn’t thrilling in terms of graphics, but the puzzles here aren’t child’s play and other than a few hiccups that the tech can’t escape, it’s a responsive effort. A more meaty online mode would add a lot, but this can still be declared the best AR game on Sony’s handheld. Now, all you have to do is find those cards."
This looks great. I love the innovating ways they're now utilising AR.
I have twin nephews and they're gonna lap this up - I can see them now, helping each other solve the puzzles! :)
I like how you don't even need an AR card for it, would be nice if tabletop tanks upgraded itself to use the same method.
