Every console seems to have something 'extra' to offer. But how many of these bonuses do you really use? Here are 20 console features past and present that no-one values, or maybe tried once then never used again.

Do people even use the PS3 for games? I mean they use it for movies, but how about the games? That seems like a pretty usless feature to me, well... that and sixaxis. Yea.. I think it'd be stupid to buy a PS3 JUST for movies.. but that's my opinion. But, for people that just want to watch movies on the Blu-Ray format, then the PS3 is the cheaper choice to pick up, even if it does play games, it's still cheaper than the other Blu-Ray players. I'm sure as far as they are concerned, it's just a Blu-Ray player and not a gaming console. I went to Best Buy and saw that the cheapest Blu-Ray player was about $75 more than the PS3..

If you asked a PS3 fan they would all say "I got 1080p" which they don't, because thier playing it on an old "get up and change the channel TV" because they spent all the money on the console.

I have a computer monitor that's displays 1080p. The tech is still to new and the price is still to high. When plasma first came out, very few people could spend $5000 to $15,000 thousand on a TV. I'm going out on a limb, and going to assume it's still like that :)

As for the 1080p, yeah I play on 1080p on a 24" LG LCD PC monitor. This is an upgrade from a commodore64 monitor (which makes games look great and smooth).

i have heard alot of people say that true 1080p can only be displayed on a screen from 37inches upwards.Last year christmas there was an article posted about an Asus 32 inches 1080p lcd,but alot of people rubbished the 1080p signal.

Not true. You can buy an EXCELENT 1080p 40'' HDTV for less than 800 dollars, for example a Samsung M87/M86. Even Sony's new W4000 series are going to be extremely price competitive and they are as good as LCD HDTVs get.

OMG your so freaking annoying, look it's not our fault that you don't have 1080P tv or that your last gene 360 hardware does not support it like the PS3. If MS did a better job on the 360 instead of rushing it out like they did maybe you would be enjoying 1080P movies and games like us PS3 owners. Hell that's why the PS3 is out selling the 360 in all regions since January, because people know that the PS3 is better and is future proof. It's sad when the 360 can't out sell the PS3 in NA it's strongest region and it's even sadder when they can't out sell it when they just had a price cut even though it's all most half the price of the PS3 and with more games. Yes, thats true, but only for movies. As far as movies go, unless you have a 40''/ 46'' or above you aren't going to see any difference between a 720p and a 1080p source. In gaming you will always notice the difference, just like you will notice the diference in resolution no matter waht computer monitor size you have. More resolution in games means more on-screen stuff and less aliasying. Just upscale a PS2 game and see the diference. Problem is present day consoles will have the majority of their titles at 720p since 1080p is too taxing for most games.

Thats a pretty fair comparison imo. I own both consoles and while the 360 has better games, on the hardware front the ps3 is the superior product. Other than the larger hd (which you can buy cheap for the ps3 anyway, no brand specific crap like the 360) What features does the elite have that a 40 gig ps3 not have? And don't forget the 40 gig has blu ray and wi-fi, which the elite doesn't have.

1080p cannot be displayed under 37", you can display 1080i under that though, I have a 32" Samsung LE32R88 and I cannot reach a 1080p signal, unless I plug it into my 42" Bravia.

Most moniter/TV makers will LIE outright that it has 1080p because that is the standard, but rarely are any titles in FULL HD and any TV's in FULL HD, and if you are, you would know because they cost a bomb to buy.

And also let me say, unless you had a robotic eye the difference between 1080i/p is virtully nothing apart from the way the lines communicate to each other.

well I use 1080p got lg 42 inch for 1300 not bad price and pretty good specs. I use the 360 pc connectivity all the time, I show family and friends my photos. I rec my tv show on my computer and play back on my 360, and download some pod cast to play back on my console, as well lesson to my huge music collection, plus have made a few play list while play games like cod4. plus music sounds awesome on my jbl home theater system. a person that doesn't use the feature really should.

panasonic ...200u and a 120" screen. It only displays 720p but whenever i check what signal its receiving from the PS3 it always shows 1080/60p (when watching dvds) 1080/24p (blue-ray) and i can't be bothered to check when playing games cause i'm a little busy.

I used to be a huge proponent of Blue-ray...but i gotta say, i bought Heros season 1 on DVD, and the PS3 does an amazing job of upconverting (1080/60p), even at 120". Although Casino Royal on Blue ray at 120" is spectacular. Still...the upgrade to a 1080p projector was too steep, maybe next time in 2 years or so i will upgrade, but i think i will get an LCD or Plasma for the next one, cause unless my room is pretty dark the quality just isn't there.

Nice I have a 720p projector too but unfortunately its broken right now. Not fully, but it has a thick white line going down the center of the screen. I have no warranty left on the projector, which sucks. It would be so sick playing my PS3 on the 150" screen wall. I never got to set it up when it was working.

I dont know what this guy's talking about. The media sharing feature on my ps3 and 360 are great and easy to use. I get instant access to all my mp3 files for in game soundtracks on the 360 (and hopefully the ps3 whenever they make the option available) and I can watch hd movie files downloaded from my pc in 1080 on my tv without using up hard drive space on the consoles. And as long as I'm not downloading anything big while playing online it never causes me any lag either. its one of my favorite features of this gen's consoles and i use it all the time.

3.Internal clock on all my football games(even back to ps2 days)
4.PSP to play pixel junk monsters when i'm away from it
5.I used the ps1 cd player a lot, along with ps2, and i hooked it up to those nice speakers, but that's only because the cd player on my stereo got messed up...besides, not too many people play video games on regular tv speakers nowadays anyways(no offense to those who still do tho)
6.I for one played many games on ps2, especially since FF12 and FF10 were the only good ff games that were ps2 games
7.I sorta use ps3 motion sensor, but only i little

LAIR did use the PSP remote gaming function so yes at least one game has done it so it can be done. I agree it's not used as much as it could be though.

The new Burnout Paradise allows you to enable the motion controller of the PS3 and use it as a steering wheel. All I can say is interesting use of the controller. Takes a couple of min to get used to it and it is pretty touchy. At least Burnout gives you the option of using the sticks, or the motion for controlling the vehicle.

I used my PS1, PS2, and my PS3 ( the current alpha console ) to play CD's. I would use the DVD to PSP feature, but Im not paying for that software... so I just download dvdrips. :)

I can't say I agree with the 1080p statement. You cannot tell the difference between 1080p and 720p unless your television set is over 50 inches. I personally own a 50 inch sony lcd and a 24 inch lcd pc monitor I have toyed with settings etc. and the difference in not even minimal.

i use media sharing with my PS3 and my computer.

i disagree. i have Direct TV HDDVR hooked up to my 42inch lcd and the highest output i get through it is 1080i. there is definately a difference when i play something through the PS3 thats 1080p.

its not a connection issue either because they are both hooked up with HDMI cables and i do have hd programming from Direct TV. when i watched 300 on HBOHD and bluray there is a difference. my girlfriend even noticed it and she was a hdtv non-believer.

That's a different issue my fellow gamer. Source material is presented differently through broadcasts as opposed to Bluray. My point is that if you watch your copy of 300 on a 32" 720p television and then switch tv sets and watch it on say 50" 1080p tv you will not tell the difference.

Ummm I actually use Vid Chat for Ps3.. Its the best thing ever.. Me and 5 friends or Clan mates do it all the time.. The best thing is we have a slide show battle.. We go on the PS3 web browser find the nasty pics possible and then we do a lil slide show in vid chat.. a lil vid chat slide show battle.. I suggest you try it.. All so vid chat is cool for the simple fact you can see what your clan members look like and get idea on their "game room"... My sis and bro in law live in Hawaii and we vid chat just to see eachother.. better than a phone call most of the time.. the other stuff on this list are old.. kinda pointless

Only have to look at the coming update for burnout - with memory freed up by the PS3's OS they get to scale up to 1080i..that's a hellvua far off 1080p which the 360 will scale everything to.

Media sharing is actually the most used feature on my 360. When you only have a 17" monitor and don't feel like converting multiple movies from divx or xvid format to DVD format (which takes about an hour), then burning the movies to DVD's (about another 10 min's each)...that streaming feature comes in very handy, I get to watch all my movies on a larger television set without all the extra work.

i have my 360 setup to link to my Zune library on my PC, so everything I have it set to monitor can be streamed to my 360. which trims the need for a huge HDD. MediaCenter is to DIE for, since it can help tame the beast that is home entertainment. but i can safely say that internet TV is probably the LEAST used feature. i dunno, i guess i kinda feel atached to the experience i'm getting from my DirectTV service. i can see it being benefical to those who have to chose between cableTV or internet, but right now i can afford both,
in their PREMIUM form (read:EXPENSIVE).

oh, and USB device connectivity is nice, but having all those things poking out of the front of my console kinda eliminates the purpose of having WiFi! if anything, i'll use the memory card slots for my saves (never know when an HDD might crash) and the USBs might have a Digital Camera or an MP3 Player hooked up to it OCCASIONALLY. i can just take the media that's on them anyway and port it over to my pC, and stream it from there.

for me, neatness and simplicity is my Zen, so I can definitly do without the clutter that could be.
