Assassin's Creed 4's open world takes half an hour to sail across

It will take around half an hour to sail across the naval open world of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, Ubisoft has told Eurogamer.

Wonder how long it takes to sale across the world in The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, or Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch

I remember it taking forever to sail from one side of the map to the other in Wind Waker on GCN, cant be sure on the exact time though, impatience might have made it seem longer than it actually was :P

Windwaker's ocean was bland, and the draw distances were horrible. There is really nothing to compare it to. Looking forward to this game!!!

AC2 was OK, AC3 was pretty good... I want some life, and a challenge. That and an improved combat system.

Ni No Kuni doesn't take long at all.. The ship is pretty fast and you can out run enemies...

and if you go to like the edge of the map it will spit you out on the otherside...

like go all the way right and then you'll come out on the left side.

But once you get the Dragon dude it's pretty much game over for the ship.

If you were on a boat roughly as fast as one of the ships from AC4, it would probably take you a few hours to cross Panau in Just Cause 2. Even taking the fastest jet in the game across the map takes a long time.

from the top of my head it takes like 8 -15 minutes or so to get o sail across the great ocean. One hour seems to excessive to me.

Sailing in 1602 AD takes about that long as well.

Thais all well and good but if the world is boring then the 30 mins that it takes to cross it will be boring too.

But Ubisoft has CONSTANTLY mentioned that "every thirty seconds we want to advertise something new to the player." Between harpooning, whaling, battling other ships, dodging water tornadoes or dodging the bases that try and shoot you down.... Sorry I just highly highly doubt that the 30 minute trip will be boring. But hey if you do get bored just tell your crew to start singing for you. Hahaha

Hmm. That could get quite annoying, having constant popups asking you do to do something could break immersion.

Not "popups" like you see on your computer. Just a whale jumpin out of the water or ships (an opportunity to battle) in the distance. I honestly don't see how a whale jumping out of the water and almost crashing into your boat or a water tornado that sucks up ships and destroys them could be "annoying"

EDIT: @N7Lukas yeah sorry about the clarification thing. But I agree it is natural to assume that some parts of a huge open world are going to be boring, but I just can't see that happening in this game. I'm sorry.

Yeah, if there were enough randon encounters like that along the way then that would make it alot more interesting.

What are people disagreeing with? Its logical to say that if a game world is lifeless and boring, then travelling in that world will be boring too. Some people.

They looked at Skyrim's open world when making this game also. Maybe you should do a little research before passing judgement. Because it will be on the list for GOTY.

Skyrim wasn't empty it was so ful of stuff that it was hard to move from place to A to B

Well there wasn't huge amount of random encounters, but there were lots of differnt types of places to explore. Like empty cabin, if you wouldn't explore anything on the way it would be boring, but sometimes I spent just 2 hours walking from place a to b.

Positively surprised about AC 4. It looks like they may finally make a game as good as AC 2 and brotherhood. The last 2 games kinda stinked.

You have done zero research I see. They've listen to the fans reactions on this. There are no more fail missions like sneak missions. Now they play out and you have to chase down or figure out how to accomplish the task detected. There's video interviews all about this.

They already did make better games than AC2 and brotherhood, from a storytelling standpoint and gameplay standpoint, AC3's gameplay>AC2 gameplay, from a parkour, combat, equipment, difficulty standpoint.

I totally disagree. I had much more fun with the flow of combat in AC 2 and Brotherhood compared to AC3. Also AC3 kinda stinked storywise.

This games just looks SO promising. Looks as if there's going to be a plethora of things to do/see/discover. Ubisoft is smart. Every employee in every interview has said that this game is going back to the core mechanics of an AC game. (Like AC2 and brotherhood). The world looks massive. Can not wait for this game.

And don't mistake Ubisoft for one of those other companies that releases a game yearly. Try learned from ac3 and obviously made sure that this game is going to be innovative and finished. (Totally fanboying right now but I don't care lol)

I don't find that very appealing seeing how most of Assassin's Creed III, I was running long distances from one place to another. It got boring quick and fast travel wasn't always available.

They are making it very hard for any other game to compete for that Game of the Year award. Either way, Ubisoft is way ahead of the rest this year with AC BF, Watch Dogs and The Division.
