Phantasy Star Online 2: Tired of Waiting for Sega’s Localization? Here’s How to Play In English

The localization of Phantasy Star Online 2 by Sega West has become somewhat of a running joke between the fans of the game. Of course it’s that kind of sad joke that doesn’t make you laugh, but makes you cringe instead.

Luckily a group of fans of the game got sick and tired of waiting, and started working on a fan translation that allows players that aren’t afraid of doing a bit of tinkering to play the game on the Japanese servers with almost no effort and with an almost full English translation.

Here's a guide on how to install it, patch it, and get it ready for playing.

Nice guide. Well detailed and informative to fans of the PSO franchise that are willing to throw money at the game but can't because....well Sega.

It's a sad state of affairs when loyal fans of the franchise have to go to these ends just so they can play a game in which they love.

*cough*VC3*cough*

You HAD to mention Valkyria 3, didn't you?

Now my evening is spoiled >_>

ashiksorel3941d ago

I'm sorry....

But think of it this way. If and when the VC3 fan translation is done. You can write a guide like this for that game and throw it in Sega's face.

I think you will get some satisfaction out of it. xD

Not just Valkyria 3, but Yakuza 5 too.

At least we're getting Hatsune Miku this month.

Sega will never localize this game. lol

Now they are after Atlus just to do the same thing with their IPs. X(

I'm starting to think that they won't myself. Which is why I went ahead and wrote this guide. The game is great. It deserves more players :D

It's been a long time since sega said anything about PSO2 coming to the west. Too long! I've played on the JPN servers myself and it was fun. The only reason I stopped was because I didn't want to get too into the game just to have Sega release the game over here and I'd have to start all over again.

Having to redo any mmo is a pain, especially when rare items are involved...

Abriael3941d ago (Edited 3941d ago )

At this rate, unless they discontinue the fan translation project, I'll probably just stay on the JP servers.

I held out a lot in hope of a localization, but I simply don't trust sega anymore on that kind of promises.

baraka0073941d ago

agreed why would you make this and keep it only in japan

Wish I could download phantasy star online 2 on my vita with out changing the memory card, rebooting up to 10 minutes and playing in japanese. Poor ol me.

Abriael3941d ago

yeah, unfortunately the fan translation is only for PC, I'd give an arm for a Vita one...

WoW is a mess and it will continue to be a mess. Still, the less-developed MMOs are going to have trouble gaining a fan base because they lack content right now. Even if people do flock to FF14 or BDO, they'll go back to WoW if they fix enough features or give players a shred of hope.

Didn't know people still played this game

Jiub1012d ago

Fewer people for certain but still a lot of people.

gleepot1012d ago

Nah, I'll keep playing the game with the millions of other people. The writing on the wall says "game is not dead" even though people have claimed it is for 15 years.

Jiub1012d ago

I'd guess that people are going to filter out but then come back for the next expac when the turmoil is over. I do worry about content delays, though.
