Seems like Blizzard Entertainment is preparing a big announcement for this year Gamescom.
The invitations sent for the press conference that will take place on August 21 reads “We’re making a special announcement that’s sure to capture the attention of the Heavens, Burning Hells, and all the shadowed places that lie between.”
Blizzard has announced a 2026 return for Blizzcon.
Blizzard Entertainment is working on a brand new shooter that is set in the Starcraft universe, based on the latest information.
If Blizzard is going to do SP shooters, I’d rather see them working on a D. Va (Overwatch) SP shooter. I see a lot of potential there. Likable character, her mech is awesome, and you could work with upgrades and many different play-styles there both in/with the mech, as well as D. Va outside her mer mech), and of course, there is already a gorgeous Overwatch universe so you could cherry-pick your locations and guest-characters, and go from there.
so you're a DVA simp, cool and all, but that will not make for a more compelling game than a shooter about a whole intergalactic war.
Not sure what a DVA ‘simp’ is, but I enjoyed her gameplay in Overwatch, which felt fresher and different from regular movement and options in shooters. Slow on foot, but obviously very quick and versatile while blasting through the air, which offered very nice, new dynamics to the battle, and I think that style of move-set/gameplay would work very well in a SP shooter, regardless of who the actual main character is, be it DVA, or a Samus, or Xenoblade X characters, or whatever. That human soldier in a mech-fighter offers something we rarely see/experience in games.
sure she has cool gameplay for a mp shooter, i dont wanna spend 3+ hours as her in a sp game and blizzard will stay as far away as possible from anything that combines overwatch and pve after how they gutted the pve already. Starcraft deserves some love as one of their longest running franchises, that has only had 2 games if you dont count the expansions.
The main writers who made the overwatch lore and characters as cool as it is in the first place is long gone and you can notice it. They do not know how to create compelling single player content for overwatch so lets just keep that garbage can closed.

the project is at least 5 months into development? Why should I care about a game that's 5, 6+ years away?

Well to be fair, it'll probably take them three years to make the game then they'll use another two to develop the overpriced MTs to milk their new cow with.
Can't wait for them to ruin it with seasonal content, online world for SP content, and constant balancing issues.

If they just barely started development then it'll probably be out by the time they decide to shut down Overwatch 2.
Honestly what popped in my head right away too, but I'm not even excited at the idea now bc of the current state of Blizzard.
Diablo 3 expansion would be the best bet.

They are going to announce that they are going to focus more into console games development instead of mainly on PC?
I have no idea what it could be that would get attention from "heaven and burning hell"
Personally I would like to see them make a game from the ground up for next gen consoles. An RPG game made specifically for consoles from them would be pretty awesome. They really know how to tell a good story through gameplay and great CGI.
If its set to capture the attention of heaven and hell, then I suppose that it won't be capturing ours...? Lol but in all seriousness, I don't see how massive this announcement could be for people like me who've never really been into MMO's or RPG's.
