PSN Getting More Than Just A Facelift?

Giving the decidedly average PlayStation Store a new coat of paint may not be the only changes Sony make to their online services this year. Speaking with GameDaily, Sony's Scott Steinberg has said:

"On the network side, we've stated that we're in a closed beta now for Home, we'll be rolling out functionality later this year, both for the Network and making Home public to others. So 2008 is going to be the year where both on the service side as well as on a Blu-Ray side, you're going to see everything that we've got."

sonarus5862d ago (Edited 5862d ago )

enough with the home rumors. Yes it would be smart for sony to release it with GTA4 but since when has sony ever been smart?

Home will be out when it is ready folks so the release date remains a mystery. A public beta would be nice though.

George Washington5862d ago

lol. this news posts proves all the dumbasses saying gta4 will have home integration are indeed dumbasses. cause according to this home isnt coming out anytime soon. and gta is only 20 days away!! OMG

MrBii5862d ago

Well lets see.

- HDMI, HDD, WIFI, CELL included; check,
- Blu Ray victory over HD DVD; check,
- Outselling 360 with all their cards; check,
- 4 horseman debuting soon. GTA4 April 2008, MGS4 June 2008, Tekken 6 Fall 2008, FF13 Q1 2009; 3 out of 4 check.

Yea I can clearly see how stupid they are, boy. Crawl back in your hole. We dont want your kind.

George Washington5862d ago

mr bii.. im sorry but i think you just proved yourself retarded. saying tekken 6 is on pair with AAA games like GTA4 FF13 and mgs4?!? you seriously gotta be retarded. that game blows. the only good one was tekken 3.

perils5862d ago

@1.4 this really annoys me! "that game blows" referring to tekken 6 im not the biggest tekken fan (i prefer street fighter) but its not even out yet you chuffing moron. how the hell do you know if it blows? super douche time traveling powers?

MrBii5862d ago

Tekken was and still is AAA. Back in the days, this game was a huge system mover and today it still is albeit no longer as big as it used to be.

We arent talking about nothing bt hypoe Alan wake or other 360 crap here.

Tekken was and still is one of the 4 horseman that made the PSX and PS2 the greatest systems around. Youre a fool. How long have you been gaming kid. Get lost kid.

Tekken is a million seller and a system mover.

Sheddi5862d ago

Tekken is my favorite fighting game francise.

liquidsnake5862d ago

Tekken 2 is a big part of why the PSX has sold over 100 million units. Dunno if Tekken 6 will have the same impact but it'll sell units im telling you.

Pain5862d ago

oOooooOOOOOoooo000ooo0Oo

@ GW truth sucks.

LJWooly5862d ago

"super douche time travelling powers?"

That one made me laugh, bubble for you. However, I think we should tone down the insults in the Gamer Zone.

LeonSKennedy4Life5862d ago

So, that's why Tekken 5 got better reviews than almost any fighting game?

sonarus5862d ago

LOL. Tekken is the best fighting series imo. I see you playing online ksmooches. Next time we must battle.

@Mr bill. You seemed to have taken the sony not so smart comment a little to close to heart but let me inform you of some of sony's dumb mistakes

1. No rumble in controller check
2. Weak psStore check
3. No online innovation whatsoever check
4. Not reaching out to developers check
5. Allowing GTA4, Assasins creed and to a less extent DMC4 slip through their grasps
6. No in game XMB

Sure there are tons of others the 360 fanboys on here will be more than happy to point out. Sure there have done a lot of things right but before they started doing things right, they did a lot of things wrong.

INehalemEXI5862d ago (Edited 5862d ago )

"lol. this news posts proves all the dumbasses saying gta4 will have home integration are indeed dumbasses. cause according to this home isnt coming out anytime soon. and gta is only 20 days away!! OMG "

GW Quote ^^^

You do realize that Warhawk already has home integration in it right... Its had Home integration since the last game update. Games can be Home ready even though Home is not ready for prime time.

Tekken is the best 3D fighter ever made IMO and not many franchises have seen Tekkens success its in the top 100 franchises list last time I checked and that was not long ago.

"we'll be rolling out functionality LATER this year, both for the Network and making Home public to others"

chaosatom3335862d ago

WILL win sony some huge props.

DRUDOG5862d ago

Meus, LATER could mean a lot of different things. Later this year, this month, this week, etc. I think that Home will go open beta sometime in May (maybe late Apr!). Two months before E3 and a plenty of time to get the bugs worked out. I've been in the closed beta and there isn't a whole lot more we can do IMHO. I wasn't a very big fan of or interested in Home until I learned of the possibilities. It's going to be incredible once they finally have a fully functioning environment with multiple dev areas.

George Washington5862d ago

...great. home has been officialy delayed again!

"we've stated that we're in a closed beta now for Home, we'll be rolling out functionality later this year"

DAMN YOU SONY!! this cr@p was suppost to be out last year damn it!

Drekken5862d ago

later this year sounds far away, but it could be tomorrow too!

They will have to release an open beta to really test it out... No way will they roll it out without months of testing

George Washington5862d ago (Edited 5862d ago )

"it could be tommorow" dont kid yourself here. this is sony were talking about. i expect this thing to get delayed even more to the point of it coming out in november.

sony does not have a good track record at all when it comes to release dates. basically every game that comes out has been delayed or taken an eternity to come out. just look at how long its taken them to release in game xmb... a year and a half and still nothing. you think they woulda put voice message support in a firmware upgrade or something but no. all we get is bd live bs we dont care about.

masterg5862d ago

Of course later this year could be tomorrow.
Just like "We are not doing a price-cut" doesn't mean a price-cut will not happen.

drdre745862d ago

Home is a Myth. Until it comes out it doesn't exist. I'm just tired of them talking about it and having movies and music on the PSN. Just do it.

MorganX5862d ago

I understand how anxious you are, I want Wipeout HD already, but these things take time. They have to be stable, secure, and perform as advertised.

This could be a game changer. There's so much anticipation, they can't afford to release a dud. If they do, MS will be all over it.

DRUDOG5862d ago

If Home is a myth than where the hell have I been logging into since last June?!? Oh yeah, it's a closed beta and you weren't invited...sorry, but I will tell you that you are not missing much right now.

Just be patient it will be here in the next month or so...

Sayai jin5862d ago

"we'll be rolling out functionality LATER this year, both for the Network and making Home public to others"

Why didn't they say the public. I wonder if it will still be somewhat closed. A lot of people have been waiting for this so the sooner the better.

Ar Tonelico Qoga: Knell Of Ar Ciel Retro Review – Love Conquers All

Gary Green said: You’ll be forgiven if you haven’t heard of the Ar Tonelico trilogy. The previous two games arrived so late in the PS2’s life-cycle that they simply went unnoticed. While most were tinkering with their shiny new PS3s, Ar Tonelico: Melody of Elemia and Ar Tonelico II: Melody of Metafalica were being ‘returned to sender’ by your local Game stores. Luckily, you won’t need to have played them to understand and appreciate this third and final chapter, Qoga (pronounced k-yoga) tells the story of a racial war between humans and Reyvateils, a breed of biologically produced female cyborgs capable of reproduction, while still having a digital mind.

Oh my god. I kinda wish this would get a remaster on PS5, it would be awesome. One of my favorite games on PS3.

That and 3D Dot Game Heroes. It's a shame that some stuff is stuck on PS3.

Knightofelemia1h ago

Ar Tonelico 3 is good I still prefer the first AT game. The music is solid in all the games and Akiko Shikata is a very talented singer bringing life to the game. Only annoying part is well I find is Saki I always choose Finnel or Tyria. KOEI so needs to HD remaster the franchise along with Ar Nosurge and Ciel Nosurge since it never came to North America. I would day one the Ar Toneliceo games and Ar Nosurge if they were remastered.

I still have the limited edition of Qoga unopened. Unfortunately it never went up in value like I had hoped all these years.

Mugen Souls Retro Review – Sexy Demon Space Adventure

Gary Green said: We have a juxtaposition of 2D and 3D visuals, flashy turn-based combat, quirky anime characters with cheeky dialogue with plenty of partial nudity; Yes, this is a Compile Heart JRPG. Whilst the engine is borrowed from Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2, Mugen Souls is more of a Disgaea spin-off. It’s not a strategy RPG as such, it merely sits within Disgaea’s ever-expanding universe (Multiverse? Netherverse? Your guess is as good as mine). You won’t find cameos though, since Mugen Souls is a franchise which aims to stand on its own two feet.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies1d 7h ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken1d 2h ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing691d 18h ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker1d 18h ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo1d 17h ago (Edited 1d 17h ago )

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing691d 17h ago (Edited 1d 17h ago )

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos1d 14h ago (Edited 1d 14h ago )

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt1d 5h ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken1d 2h ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.
