I'm deeply worried about Fez creator Phil Fish, and you should be too

GameZone's Josh Wirtanen writes, "It’s no secret that I admire both the work and quirky personality of Phil Fish. In fact, I wrote an entire article about that just a month ago. I think he’s a brilliant game developer who is able to make thing(s) that remind me exactly why I love gaming. But he’s also an incredibly prickly sort. And very few things make this clearer than his recent outburst on Twitter, which ended in him cancelling Fez II."

Another Phil Fish article, what a shame.

Not to sound like douche but I'm not worry about Phil Fish. If he was handicap or had a mental illness then I would be worry but that's not the case.

GribbleGrunger4329d ago

Yeah, let's just contribute to giving him a mental illness, so that people like you can feel sorry for him.

majiebeast4329d ago

People say he is bi polar i dont know if its true but it does explain his behaviour a bit.

nukeitall4329d ago

@GribbleGrunger:

This is the internet. People say sh!t.

I don't condone it, but (blow)fish isn't exactly the innocent guy here.

StraightPath4329d ago (Edited 4329d ago )

Fez II could have been a great game so called gamers have brought it upon themselves and others who just want to play games. Its a shame most people choose to be sheeps and follow the media in blowing things out of context and then saying nasty stuff in comments. He said bad stuff to but,hey everyone has their faults. N4G losers have lost out on FEZ II.

Its the fault of

Fish
Beer guy
The gamers

Why a innocent game had to be cancelled. But I am sure he may wo rk on it secretly? Depends how much work put, into,it

nukeitall4329d ago

I don't really feel a loss here, but some are fan of Fez.

3-4-54329d ago

Look at all the other dev's who don't complain about everything and call gamers names and what not.

They just go about their jobs and keep making games, while he mostly just says arrogant comments to people.

People....Fez isn't THAT good. It's a decent to ok, maybe even good game but it's not THAT good.

Honestly, him and his games aren't worth thinking or worrying about. If he makes another good game, then o well, good for him, just don't be arrogant about it, treat people nice and you will be respected more so than you are now.

If he never made games again I would be cool with it. We need LESS people like him within the gaming industry anyways.

Gamers are mostly or mainly friendly and nice, and he seems the opposite of that.

xBigxBossx4329d ago

It is a shame. FEZ was a great game. I don't understand all the hate and people boycotting his games. I purchase movies and clothing without a thought of "is the creator of this an asshole". I play games because they are fun an have quality. I don't worry about the person making them. I blame social media haha

yes, it's a shame that someone can throw a 2-year old temper tantrum over an ounce of criticism...

He really is. It's unfortunate to see stupid people crawling out of the work to defend him, especially when it's a so-called journalist (funnily enough, Phil said all game journalists are assholes) who are trying their hardest to portray him as a nice guy, when he's been nothing but poison to the industry since he entered.

CaptainPunch4329d ago

Comments like this don't help

lastofgen4329d ago

Fez was great, but I'm not going to deny that I've begun to dislike Fish in the past few months due to his statements. However, I feel he should have just gotten off of social networks/media, worked on what he loves doing (making games), and come out when it was ready to be shown off.

But I suppose not everyone can do that.

HammadTheBeast4329d ago

I wouldn't mind if this was the only thing he did, but a couple years ago he said all Japanese games were garbage, and made fun of the people who bought his game by saying "Boycott harder, nerds".

He's kind of an a-hole, and I honestly don't care about what he does anymore.

SnakeCQC4329d ago

that beer guy should be fired

zeal0us4329d ago (Edited 4329d ago )

Given that he's not a employee of GT he can't be fired. The most that can be done to him is that short gets cut but I'm pretty sure he would just go a different outlet to show his show like youtube.

SnakeCQC4329d ago

so he's not making any money from game trailers even thought he has a show on it?

TekoIie4329d ago

Why? Does being called a tosspot offend you?

SnakeCQC4329d ago

being a tosspot offends everyone whos not a tosspot

CaptainPunch4329d ago

Fired for having an opinion? GTFO!

SnakeCQC4329d ago

The loser gave a 5 minute rant on the Invisible Walls show. He didn't discuss what's happening within the game industry. All the loser did was attack two devs for asking another site(not gt or anything beer belly had anything to do with) to stop asking them incessantly about every little thing.

TongkatAli4329d ago

I'm not. He should get over what people say to him when he does it the same way too. You could dish it but you can't take it ? F off, bye.

Our Interview with Allistair Pinsof Part 2 – Relationships in Indie Gaming

This is a great interview, pretty much reminds you why GamerGate was set up in the first place, to counter "fishy" stuff like this in the industry

I mean this is just Indie stuff can you imagine the situation with big developers and what sites do to get on their good side.

Relientk773774d ago

Not a big fan of Phil Fish

he's honestly just a d*ck

-Foxtrot3774d ago

It's funny how the more his facial hair grew the bigger his ego got.

It's like his ego pushed his hair out quicker and he couldn't be arsed to shave constantly.

elninels3773d ago

In response to that comment phil fish has cancelled yet another project.

003774d ago

those people really are a bunch of scumbags.

garos823774d ago

Totally disgusting that the industry has come to this.

Im not surprised to be honest but let this be a lesson to all those people smearing #gamergate as a hate group and a misogynistic movement. This is what we fight for and this is the sh*t that needs to stop.

Phil Fish is a thief and the reasons as to why Fez 2 will never come to fruition is because he is a talent less hack

The_Mad_Monarch3774d ago

Both of the interviews with Pinsof have been fantastic. Hope this gets all the exposure it can.

garos823774d ago

most publications seem to be ignoring it hoping it disappears

im looking at you giantbomb r/games r/gaming polygon gamasutra and all you corrupt fools

Top 5 Indie Game Developer Meltdowns

(CriticalIndieGamer) Indie gaming is a serious business these days, but it is sometimes a little too serious for my liking. An industry that was started for fun has become the domain of a few sanctimonious, self-aggrandizing, and downright annoying developers. Admittedly, some small part of me secretly enjoys the controversy courted by these mavericks, so let’s take a look at five of my favourite game developer meltdowns.

Indie Devs Really Need PR Help

From EGMR, "Indie games can be amazing experiences where quality truly shines through, but many a time the same cannot be said of the developers behind some of these games. Over the past year, I had my own experiences and witnessed a lack of PR sensibilities, and in some instances professionalism when indies communicated with members of the press. What I have noticed quite frequent is the lack of tact some developers have when communicating in a public forum, which needs to be highlighted. It is quite evident that some developers don’t realise that their social media feeds are a public forum, and that what you say in a public online context can have some real consequences."
