I really think it's a bad news. Mercury Steam is a great studio and they know the castlevania series more than anybody. We should do something. Fidel Castro said, "A revolution is a struggle to the death between the future and the past".

AzureskyZ4357d ago

They know the castlevania series more they anybody? They practically butchered the storyline-- characters were subpar and music wasnt even close to those found in classics such as lol, sotn, etc. The gameplay wasnt bad-- but somewhere down the line it lost the heart and soul of what made castlevania shine. Im looking forward to IGA's return.

Aery4357d ago (Edited 4357d ago )

If people want to play the "true" castlevania, they should just skip this one and wait for the "true" castlevania.

MS created an AWESOME experience with Lord Of Shadows and I *totally* enjoyed the game without being blinded by any prejudice.

Anyway you guys don't really understand how much in trouble the Jap Devs are...

Baka-akaB4357d ago (Edited 4357d ago )

I'm in between , LoS was an awesome franchise to me , still is and will be . But let's not pretend it's better than the real castlevania one and truly close to it .

Sephiroushin4357d ago (Edited 4357d ago )

What? Seriously!
Mercury has a contract for a trilogy so they have made 3 castlevania, yeah a total of 3... Koji Igarashi A.K.A IGA; has worked on more than 15 Castlevania already so how in the World do you think they "know more" about castlevania ...

Mercury did a good job w/ LoS and hopefully LoS2 story/music/gameplay goes from good to great like it used to be; and let's not pretend Mercury "knows more"...

ifritAlkhemyst4357d ago

Don't be dense. Claiming you can know more about a game series is nonsense and it's the reason why games don't change a whole lot between sequels.

AzureskyZ4357d ago (Edited 4357d ago )

Great News!!!-- I mean mercury steam makes good games, however they did a terrible job of recreating the magic of castlevania. IGA's world of castlevania is not only the best but individual masterpieces. Lord of shadow might have decent gameplay but lost touch with the story, the characters, and the music of what made castlevania hauntingly beautiful. We need team IGA back to put castlevania back to how it was--- i say it was good effort by mercurysteam but im glad as hell they will be off the project.

@ disagrees-- apparently some of yall never even played the other castlevanias cause los doesnt even hold candle --

Baka-akaB4357d ago (Edited 4357d ago )

Imo Iga was doing an excellent job with Curse of Darkness to transition Castlevania into 3d and new stuff with the scraps he was given .

We need that kind of stuff , but with the support and funding that Team mercury received with LoS . Aniother setting , with money in 3d from IGa would be awesome ... instead of milking Symphony of the night constantly on say , 3ds or vita

Firan4357d ago (Edited 4357d ago )

"-- apparently some of yall never even played the other castlevanias cause los doesnt even hold candle --"

You mean those Medroidvanias we've seen over and over and over again? LoS was a great Castlevania game which actually tried to do something new in the series.

Don't get me wrong I love Medroidvania games especially SotN and Aria of Sorrow. Still I'd say making LoS is one of the best things to happen for the series.

I hope Castlevania will continue to try new things instead of going only for Medroidvania style.

AzureskyZ4357d ago (Edited 4357d ago )

Like i said the gameplay wasnt bad-- but the direction of the story, the art, and the music was all lost in translation. I have no problem an another developer taking foot in castlevania-- but i expect them at the very least carry on the torch of what made it great in the first place-- call it metroidvania or whatever it still standalone as the greatest in francise history-- aria and sotn is my favorite of all times-- even lol was great.

I@ Firan-- i have no problem of trying new things but there is a need of some level of familiarity and not reboot to a point of where it lost its soul-- samething with dmc-- ninja theory made dante a brit and emo-- the gameplay wasnt bad but somewhere it just missed what made it special in the first place.

HiddenMission4357d ago

@Firan

You do realize lords of shadow 2 is a metroidvania game right...David Cox didn't like to call it that in an interview but he said part two would be a lot more in line with those types of games.

LoS is a great franchise but the combat can get repetitive with little replay value. In previous games there was a ton of reasons to go back and play through multiple times and that had a lot to do with the more open world feel and RPG weapon systems.

I personally like the art style from SotN better and I feel that if they made titles with that setting, art, characters and LoS combat then it would be a GoTY contender.

Firan4357d ago (Edited 4357d ago )

Yes I agree that LoS didn't feel Castlevania like except for Belmont, whips and a castle. But that didn't stop me from liking it.

I'm not saying LoS is better than older games. It wouldn't even get on my top 5 CV games.

They can make new Metroidvania games if they want. I do like them but as I said earlier I want them to try new things. That's why LoS felt so good when I played it.

@HiddenMission

Yes I do know. However since the game isn't out yet it's hard to say whether or not it will deliver a good Metroidvania experience. I wasn't impressed by MoF at all.

NYC_Gamer4357d ago (Edited 4357d ago )

I'm not a fan of their Castlevania games my copy of Los is still left unbeaten

Foxgod4357d ago (Edited 4357d ago )

While Mercury did a great job to make Castlevania get the mainstream attention it deserves, i am looking forward to getting Castlevania in its former settings again.

I would really love to have another Castlevania that goes back to the story of Richter and Alucard, as they are imho the icons of the series.

I also would love to see Simon and Trevor Belmont make a return in the Castlevania story's.
I would love to play a Castlevania game where you have to traverse trough Dracula's castle in two different timelines at a time.

Symphony of the night already had two castle's, a regular one, and a mirrored one, it would be cool if you can control both Simon in the past, and Richter in later times, and have their story intertwine.

I would call it Castlevania : Solace of Genealogy :)

Foxgod4357d ago (Edited 4357d ago )

And the save points could be a mirror, used as a communication device between Simon and Richter, so save points would allow the player to switch between them and solve puzzles that affect the timeline.

What are you waiting for Konami, hire me :P :P

Los is my second best hack and slash game. First is obviously ninja gaiden black. Hope they make a xbox1 remake. Like the fable anniversary thingy. Better looking graphics. Don't touch the difficulty and gameplay. I downloaded the 2D castlevania on my xbox n quite frankly I couldn't go back in time. The gameplay has aged for a new fan. Los made me love castlevania

The director of the original Silent Hill: “I look forward to seeing bold interpretations.”

Keiichiro Toyama—the creator and original director of the 1999 Silent Hill—shared his personal thoughts on the recently announced remake by Konami, reflecting on what the project means to him after more than two decades:
“I felt something similar when the game was adapted into a movie. It deeply moved me to see the names of the characters and locations I had created come to life visually, even though I wasn’t directly involved. That wouldn’t have been possible without the continued support of the fans and the dedication of the developers who’ve kept the series alive.
I’m really looking forward to seeing how the remake evolves this time. With the advanced technology we now have, I’m sure I’ll be surprised by how the game is reimagined. Since the original was built for the first PlayStation, there will naturally be challenges—like the camera and controls—but I’m eager to see bold and creative solutions to those elements.”

Haha Not only is bold and creatively not what the industry wants, it’s not what most people want.

They want to get scammed and pay twice for a thing they already own.

jznrpg5d ago

I’m sure many would want bold and creative done well, but that’s easier said than done. I like variety so give me a little bit of everything, done well of course.

Nightcrawler897d ago

Hope they use his vision in the game

Inverno7d ago

Was the SH2 remake even bold? Or was it more or less just a 1 to 1 over the shoulder remake?

Scissorman6d ago

it was not. it greatly expanded the areas and puzzles to the point where it felt like an entirely new game. the enemies and boss fights were given a MASSIVE upgrade. the abstract daddy fight in particular was incredible. and the team added two new endings.

Pedrof6d ago

I wouldn't hold my breath on "bold".

The game decided to end its service and operations?

jznrpg54d ago

That’s one way to shift blame

Vits54d ago

I mean… it was pretty underwhelming. They basically slapped on that overused “neon remaster” aesthetic that a bunch of older revivals have leaned on, cranked up the speed a bit, and called it a day. No real innovation, no fresh ideas, just a faster, flashier version of something we’ve already seen.
