How F*cking Good Is Civilization V?

Baden of WGB has finally gotten around to playing Civilization V thanks to the Steam Summer Sale, and needless to say he's rather impressed by the whole thing.

As a Scotsman I still wish there was an option to play as Scotland with William Wallace as the leader. First order of business, ally with Ireland and invade England! :P

Might have to dig into the mods and see if any of those can make my dreams come true!

It will still backfire... ;)

WolfLeBlack3930d ago

lol, with my luck quite probably :D

I used to love Civ 1-5 and none came even close. Now that I've been introduced to EU and CK I can't find that loving feeling I once had. Still great games though.

WolfleBlack, sounds like you'd love Crusader Kings 2 then as that's a very real possibility unmodded.

WolfLeBlack3930d ago

I might just have to check that out, then. Cheers, Blackmonone :)

Brave new world is really really good

I've been keeping an eye on the reviews and plan on picking it up at some point. It's just a little steep on the price for me at the moment, and cash is hard to come by these days.

Easy, good game design. Game is an easy example of a game that doesn't have eye popping graphics and no story and it's still an amazing game because of the game design. It plays great, and is fun enough that you forget time and spend hours playing without realizing. Developing a video game should always place game design as the highest priority. Then depending on the game Story, stability, marketing, art, music and audio, multiplayer (only if it's a multiplayer game and is not shoehorned in), very last the graphics as they do not make the game. It's sad a lot of developers today think differently with graphics being first and everything else being something that should be attended too at some point.

Not as good as the Age of Empires, the settlers, Rise of nations etc. I am not a bog fan of whole turn based thing.

WolfLeBlack3930d ago

Usually I'm more of an RTS person, but some turn-based games manage to really capture my interest, and Civ V is one of those games.

Well, i have similar sentiments as Red_Devilz. I was a big fan of Age Of Empires III. Then i remember buying CIV4, cost me like €50, the physical version since i had no internet at the time and only a ridiculously low-spec PC that could only, barely, play strategy games like AoE and Championship/Football Manager.
I remember when i started and it was like this huge map and the whole turn-based aspect and i was so dissapointed since i hated Turn-based games. I thought this was another AoE that was going to give me hours of fun.

Looking back now, maybe i was too quick to stop playing. The box is still there somewhere. I have Civ5 in my Steam library for a while now, i got it in some bundle or something. Ive yet to play it although the fact that i liked Xcom recently has given me some motivation to try again, and not to mention the huge acclaim the game receives.

Long story short, i will give it a try someday.

Of course, these games a digital gold.

One of the best games ever made, totally deserved!

Silly Mammo2562d ago

That's quite an achievement! It would be interesting to know how many units were sold at full price and how many during a Steam Sale. I think I bought it for $10 during one of the big sales.
