Ship Simulator 2008: New Horizons Released Online

Dutch developer VSTEP announces that the much anticipated and long awaited official Ship Simulator 2008 add-on: New Horizons is now available for download at www.shipsim.com.

The New Horizons add-on for Ship Simulator 2008 is a new addition to the acclaimed Ship Simulator series, which has already generated such a huge and loyal following. The large community of Ship Sim fans will now be able to hook up online, as well as enjoy the new sailing area of Padstow, Cornwall (UK). New vessels will also enhance the experience and allow fans to fully enjoy the true-to-life experience of this unique naval simulation series.

Lighthouse Interactive Releases Multiplayer Server Application for Ship Simulator 2008

GDN reports: Publisher Lighthouse Interactive and developer VSTEP today released a multiplayer server application for their successful naval simulator for the PC, Ship Simulator 2008. The application provides all Ship Simulator 2008 players the ability to create their own stand-alone multiplayer servers. It is also compatible with the official add-on, Ship Simulator 2008: New Horizons. This highly realistic simulator puts players at the helm of some of the World's most varied and detailed ships found at sea, allowing them to explore accurately recreated environments.

Strategy Informer: Ship Simulator 2008 Review

All in all this was a decent game, but it's definitely for a niche audience. If you're expecting large explosions or boat on boat racing in your ship based game you're not going to find it here. Ship Simulator is instead a study of the detailed operations it takes to properly pilot a ship in what are often less than ideal conditions.

It's not a game where it's simple to just jump in and play for a few minutes, requiring dedication of time to learn the controls and how each action affects how your ship responds. This must then be coordinated with understanding the weather and the sea in order to properly complete your missions. A completion is very satisfying, but after a few successes Stretgy Informer found their attention, like their boat, drifting.
