The Last Of Us 2: what we want to see in a sequel

OPM: The Last of Us might have got a whopping great 10/10 from us, but there are a few things we’d like to see tweaked in a (hopefully PS4) sequel. From obvious AI tweaks to a more interactive sense of morality, here are a few ideas for the The Last Of Us 2. Oh, and swimming lessons. Everyone has to have swimming lessons. SPOILERS! Obviously.

Don't talk about that yet, folks. People are still soaking in the greatness that's the original The Last of Us. I'm sure there'll be a sequel, but Naughty Dog has said it won't be related to Joel and Ellie. That's story, according to the developer, is already complete.

They said 'that journey is complete' leaving it open for a sequel, although i wholeheartedly agree there shouldn't be a direct sequel with those characters.

I don't understand how after the roller coaster ride you go on with Joel and Ellie, and how much you get to know them, people don't want to see more of them, when they are a bit older. Baffles me.

It's because a follow-up would have to exlain what happened after part one and the strength and impact of the ending comes from it's openness. Thus a follow-up will make the ending weaker. Maybe they can find a way to make it work but I can't see how. Maybee if you would play Ellie 10 years later and the game slowly fills in some informations about the gap but never all.

It quite clearly hasnt. It is inevitable that the fireflies will catch up with them. Somebody will want a cure for humanity, and they're not going to stop at a Dam to get it. And even if they do stop Ellie will find out the truth, she already knows that's why she asked, she just wants to believe him. Regardless, creating a character as perfectly human as Ellie, just to leave her at 14/15 years old, it's just a waste. The brilliance of the game lies in the relationship of Joel and Ellie, the infected are just a setting for it to take place. It would be very difficult to create a new main character(s), they would only be compared to Joel & Ellie and i'm not sure if it's possible they could stack up.

Don't get me wrong, I love the characters and how they built there relationship over the course of the game but the way that it ended is perfect. The not knowing what comes next left me pondering on the story for days after i completed it which I haven't ever had from a game. I think if ND continued on with this story it would actually take away from how great the story is. Imagination is much stronger.

The LoU world is huge. We don't even know if the infected have spread out of the US. With ND's creative talent i am more than confident that they can create new characters with a different story that will be just as good, or even possibly better.

I'm with ND on this one.

I love the idea of placing the game world into a different location, dealing with the spores and illness.

I would have liked to see Walking Dead show like that too. Each season we can go to a different place in the world and see how different places deal with the outbreak.

We will see I guess, but if they say Joel & Ellie are done, then I'm inclined to believe them.

Looking forward to sequel either way.

As long as the sequel don't have Joel and Ellie as the main charecters then I'm fine with a sequel. But I will be heavily disappointed if they do a sequel with Ellie and Joel.

it is desirable if multiplayer is axed from the game completely. Single player is the real meat and potatos here.

Oh god, it's going to be MGS all over again.
Devs are satisfied with their masterpiece, people want more until the point the dev is forced to make sequels.

Be respectful to the developers visions, people.
Even though sequels can be fantastic, let the dev work on whatever fresh ideas they have in their head.

If they actually planned from the start to make a sequel, I'd be fine with that, but as it stands, TLOU is perfect on its own.

A prequel would be way better than a sequel. Tommy had nightmares from his time with Joel. When Joel tells Ellie that he has been on both sides of Ambushes she asks if he killed a lot of innocent people. Joel doesn't answer her...

I play a LOT of games.im fortunate enough to be able to get most new games when they come out and i have to say of all the games iv played this one is the one that captured my attention and emotions..no game has ever been able to pull me in and make me feel how the carahcters feel..it is by FAR the best game iv ever played and personally im screaming for a sequel or a prequel...and wether joel n ellie are in it or not i fully trust ND to blow my mind all over again....i meen look at what TLOU has dun for us...it stands to reason if theyve nailed this one like they have then any sequel/prequel will be just as good if not better..thyre genius's...and defo cum a long way since crash bandicoot..(still n epic game tho..)lol. When i watched the final FMV at the end of TLOU i was genuinley devostated my journey had ended..so much so im now completing it for the third time..and im still not bored!lol theyv defo hit a home run and i very very eagerly await a 2nd installment.or even a movie lyk they did for resi evil..thatd b a record breaking hit over night!!!

Honestly, why not a direct sequel? hers what i expect. I expect Joel's lie during the final sequence to come into play at some point. I also think you'll see the cliched story of zombies running out of food so they start roaming out of cities come into play, creating a potential threat to their town. You'll also probably have missions where you have to defend the town and even go on counter offenses. I would expect, however, for the town to fall under siege and be either taken over or destroyed at the end of the second game, allowing for a final installment to the trilogy where you get your closure at the end. I also wouldn't be surprised to see, with Ellie coming of age, to see a romantic interest created at some point. Something I'm curious to see is if there is a large period jump between installments. Maybe jump ahead a few years for the second one (making Ellie 17ish) and then jump ahead another few years (making her 20ish). You could then introduce some more mature personal issues for her character to tackle. Maybe the question of, does she want a family one day? Would she bring a child into this world? Would that child be infected? Would it be able to provide the cure without death that she cannot? Regardless, I also fully expect Joel to die to close out the trilogy. This story feels like one that, with so much death already, would only end with a conclusion of death. Either Ellie finds out about Joel's decision and turns herself in to the military in some capacity, resulting in certain death, or more likely Joel sacrifices himself protecting her. No matter what happens though, the first game was absolutely incredible and more than anything it was made incredible by the depth of the characters and the immersion of the story. A sequel wouldn't have to "live up" to it to be successful. As long as it stays true to the characters fans grew to care for and stays true to the environment, I think it will be considered a great continuation.
