Hardcore Gamer: Vexx was a cross-platform release, and it fared best on the Playstation 2 and worst on the GameCube. The PS2 and Gamecube had their share of great platform games, but the Xbox, not so much. If you own an Xbox and love platform games, Vexx is actually among the better choices (yep, slim pickings). It ranks behind the likes of Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee and Blinx: Time Sweeper, but ahead of Voodoo Vince, Malice, and Tork: Prehistoric Punk. If you want a taste of the few brilliant moments Vexx has to offer, well, you can get a used copy pretty cheap, but you might not want it.
It took us several platforming levels to go through in order to bring you this list featuring the best platformers on the original Xbox.
I may be one of the few who enjoyed blinx. I been saying this should return in modern form.
In these days of remakes and remasters it is fucking criminal that the OG Xbox is the only way to play JSRF natively.
Platforming enthusiast Joe Jasko of Rant Gaming lists his top 10 most underrated platform-adventure games.
This was a brilliant article and I'll have to check out some of these on my PS2 if I find them. I really miss this kind of game these days, there's really only Ratchet and Clank left.
No love for Haven: Call of the King? Awww...easily sits next to the Jak games for me.
Good to see Gex and Croc make the list. I still have my copies of Croc and Croc 2. I'll have to pick up some of the games from this list.
Omg, this game !
"much less popular than they were ten years ago, and so anything not named Super Mario or Banjo-Kazooie tends to disappear from memory "
Jak and Daxter,Ratchet and Clank,Crash Bandicot and Spyro ?
loved this damn game!
I have this game, its pretty good
Dude I loved this game. The local trade shop has it for 40$!!!! :(
Vexx, OMG, I tried playing through this game, but it was just soooo average on all fronts. I mean, why would anyone have played Vexx, if they owned a PS2.....it just had too many other, far better platformers, including the best 2 the original Jak & Daxter & Ratchets, as well as Tak, many of the Disney games, Ty The Tasmian Tiger & a slew more were all far better games than Vexx, in varying degrees of betterment, for lack of a bettermenter word.
I really have been heartbroken by the death of platformers this gen, I mean, this is the actual genre that built the entire industry....from Wonder Boy at the arcades, to the brilliant console versions of Mario, & SNES's Donkey Kong, to Mario64 & Banjo on N64, & Medievil & Crash on PS1, to Mario Galaxy & Ratchet (up until A41 where the Ratchets began to stink, like Insomniac in general)......the platforming genre, & my favorite in the 3D platformer, are a dying breed. I mean, I love my Unchartered's & the like, but common......give me my aggrevatingly cute furry animal based platformers.....I am a 38yr old bloke, & I still love the genre, as it is a genre that manages to garner more innovation & fun with new games & especially new platforms, than any friggin' 1st person shooter ever could. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love myself a brainless shooter, or war based shooter as well, but, it's frustrating when all the best developers are assigned to making these same damn genres that never seem to evolve. I mean, I would have loved IW to try there hand at a 3D platformer on current machines, rather than have half there staff leave after losing there souls to money & the soul devouring Activision,.
And MS have destroyed Rare, I mean, there making bloody Kinect games for gods sake....although, there last few games like Kameo & PDZ have sucked anyway, so I guess there not the best example.....
Oooh, I know, the guys that made Medievil, then made the awesome, but underated & underbought Primal on PS2, are a good example & are now all but gone from Sony's internal studios, made to work on that Home crap, & now who knows, they may be cleaning the Sony HQ toilets, knowing how Sony & MS can waste talent.
