The Best Games Like Despicable Me: Minion Rush

John Bedford (Modojo): One of the reasons Despicable Me: Minion Rush has enjoyed so much success on the App Store is the sheer amount of variety it offers players: multiple environments, more obstacles, boss-fights and far less repetition than you'll have come to expect from games in the genre. It's an awful lot like a proper video game, in other words.

Fortunately, Despicable Me isn't the only running game that offers up plenty of depth and variety. If you're done with the game and want someone new to get stuck into, here's our pick of the best runners with legs.

Study Finds Games 'Can be Good for the Mind'

A new study by Skillprint has found that video games can be 'good for the mind', amongst many other benefits.

eeey its been a while since ive seen that pic haha

Like many people, I work with crappy computers at work. I have noticed that gamers are capable of working around tech issues and get stuff done.
They need less guidance with software updates or new software that gets implemented.
Decades of buggy, incomplete games really help with problem solving.

gold_drake516d ago

yeh, work pcs are shiiit

where i work, all pcs are still windows 7 haha.

all of the programs are so old and outdated it hurts.
but that issue will stay that way as not everyone is familiar with pcs and the older generation is ... more or less helpless with them haha. not all of them of course but most of them

Sonic Dash Made More Revenue Than The Last Five Sonic Games Combined

When the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise releases a game on console, sales figures often show an impressive turnout of loyal fans ready to support the series. Unfortunately, the same does not seem to be true for mobile releases, as the last five Sonic titles have made $8.7 million in revenue combined, while Sonic Dash, released in 2013, has made nearly $11 million on its own.

Let me guess, it's some crappy phone game.

ThatArtGuy1760d ago

The title isn't really upfront. Sonic Dash made more than the last 5 MOBILE games combined. It isn't compared to console/pc releases.

Mr Pumblechook1760d ago

@ThatArtGuy, thank you because I was very confused.

timotim1760d ago

Got it on my Surface Go. Its not a bad title at all...for a mobile game.

Sonic Mania.....the rest of the Sonic games over the last 20+ years need to be deleted.

SegaGamer1760d ago (Edited 1760d ago )

Nonsense. Have you played them all?

The Sonic series must be the only classic series at this point where gamers refuse to allow it to be more than 2D sprites. I just don't get it, I don't see the same complaints about other classic games series. Everybody seems to want a modern look for those games, but Sonic? Nope, Sonic must be 2D sprites only forever for no real reason.

PyroMessiah861760d ago (Edited 1760d ago )

Could be because 90% of the 3D Sonic games were really poor. It didn't help that the first ever 3D Sonic game was shockingly bad compared to Mario 64 it's main rival back then. (Now they aren't even considered rivals because the quality of Sonic fell off a cliff apart from a few games or parts of them)

mcstorm1759d ago

I think the issue with the 3d sonic games was speed. Sonic was all about speed and running. The 3d ones changed this and I don't think speole liked it. Mario was a bit drffernt in terms of the speed of Mario was slower and when Nintendo made mario 64 it felt like a Mario game.

Sonic adventure 1 & 2 were great games imo for sonic and worked well because they changed it up mixing speed with other characters.

Games after that did not feel like sonic until lost world (for me anyway)

I think this is the main issue with 3d sonic games is they are all hit and miss. Where it seems no matter what Nintendo do with Mario it seems to work.

SegaGamer1759d ago (Edited 1759d ago )

@mcstorm

Sonic was never all about speed, it was more about platforming and finding shortcuts throughout the levels. Sonic's 2D games were never really that fast, you would actually be punished for going too fast, especially in Sonic 3 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

If anything, Sonic's 3D games are much faster paced. In Sonic Adventure 1, you could use Sonic's spin dash which made Sonic move faster than we had seen at the time. When they added boost gameplay, Sonic games became all about speed and precision timing.

Snookies121760d ago (Edited 1760d ago )

What the heck? No. Sonic Generations was amazing as well. Having grown up on Sonic 1-3&Knuckles. I think Generations was better than Mania. Granted, Mania was fantastic. It just felt a bit too short, and Generations had amazing levels in both 2D and 3D perspective. Which gave extra value to every stage. If there's one Sonic game I want... It's Generations 2.

Also, special mention to Sonic Adventure 2. That certainly should not be "deleted" as it fits into your 20 year bracket for purging as well.

PyroMessiah861760d ago

I thought Mania was great. The DLC expanded it abit too. Content wise. For my liking there are too many different Sonic games released and the content is bad because of it overall.

They need to.scale back. Not have so many different types of Sonic game/character/look and work on what people really want.

lellkay1759d ago (Edited 1759d ago )

"I think Mania was better than Generations"

Just no.

SegaGamer1759d ago (Edited 1759d ago )

@PyroMessiah86

"Not have so many different types of Sonic game/character/look and work on what people really want."

This is another thing Sonic games are unfairly criticised for. Every other long running game series has been allowed to evolve and branch out into different styles of game play. Mario, for example, is churned out so often with Nintendo at this point but nobody bats an eyelid. There must be over 10 different types of games with Mario on the Switch at this point.

Sega releases a spinoff Sonic game once in a while and people complain. It's like I have been saying for years now, people are stuck in the past when it comes to Sonic games. If you let the series evolve and move on, maybe you would enjoy it more.

PyroMessiah861759d ago

@SegaGamer

You're obviously a big Sega and Sonic fan. Fair play I can understand that. They released lots of classics over the years.

Though the bottom line really is that with Sonic there are now more 'misses' than 'hits' in the series and that needs to be accepted and addressed by Sega.
