DHGF: I’ve played pool in my time. I’ve never made a living doing it. I’m not even what you’d call good at it, but I’ve played it. I know the joy of hitting a shot you thought you had no chance of hitting, and I know the agony of accidentally sinking the 8-Ball. As a result of this knowledge, I am probably more qualified to review this game than I’ve ever been when reviewing a simulation. After all, I’ve never flown a star fighter, I’ve never fought off entire armies with nothing but a pistol and wits. What I’m getting at is I know how pool should feel. And Pool Nation feels slightly off.
Josh writes: - Is it just me or does it seem like a ton of games based on shooting pool are suddenly popping up out of nowhere. I will admit that the last games I really played were Super Money Ball or the Gamecube (the BEST Super Monkey Ball game by the way!) and Yahoo Pool. Yes, I was a shark on Yahoo pool! It has been years since I’ve jumped into this type of game and I have been standing aside and watched as these games have been released. Well, I’ve been chalking up my stick for far too long and Pool Nation was the game that I finally said it has been too long.
Needs VR. Sports bar 2.0 is fun and has excellent billiards. At least cater to both flat and VR.
I wonder how it compares to Hustle Kings on the PS3. I may have to buy this one as HK on the PS4 is somewhat different to its PS3 counterpart.
"Pool Nation by Manchester-based devs Cherry Pop Games and published by Wired Productions is a photo-realistic billiards simulator where you have the chance to start a single-player career, beat your friends in a one on one while sitting on the couch as well as play against online buddies around the world. In what is, in essence, an overhauled version of the PS3 classic from years gone by with added features, will Pool Nation have you reaching for the chalk or leaving the pub early?" From PSU: "Ostensibly, it can be all too easy to understate what elevates a merely decent Pool game into becoming a great one and so it is that we now arrive at the PS4 release of Pool Nation. Though it exists in the absence of any real competition, developer Cherry Pop Games have nonetheless ensured that Pool Nation carves its niche as the very best Pool game money can buy."
