Analyst Says Xbox 360 Could Do Better

In a note today, the firm's Colin Sebastian wrote, ""Xbox 360 sales appear to be tracking below current market expectations. Based on year-to-date sell-through trends in North America, we believe sales of Microsoft's Xbox 360 console are tracking closer to 4.5 million units for the year versus current market expectations in the 5-million unit range.

"Xbox 360 supplies improved significantly over the course of the year following initial hardware constraints, and it appears that pent-up consumer demand has largely been fulfilled. However, it is possible that an expanding software release calendar, as well as limited supplies of new PS3 and Wii hardware could help boost 360 unit sales over the holidays."

I see Nov. being a big 360 sales month. When the PS3 goes on sell and weeks go by with out any new stock the 360 will clean up.

Nov. has Gears, Rainbow six, Splinter cell

DA, Ultimate MK, COD3, Football/Soccer, Marvel

Ultimate Alliance, Need for Speed Carbon, Star

Trek Legacy, WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2007, Tony

Hawk's Project 8, F.E.A.R. First Encounter

Assault Recon, Superman Returns, Viva Piñata

Launch Edition, Sonic the Hedgehog, Eragon,

Fuzion Frenzy 2, College Hoops 2K7, and on and on.

I know allot of people that are saying they just want to see what the PS3 is about before they choose. Once $400,000 is gone the choice will not be that hard now will it.

specialguest6386d ago

that's a pretty strong line up of titles. looks like it's going to be a 360/Wii Christmas the end of this year. (360 Christmas again)

unleash bass6386d ago

Once people get to see that the PS3 isn't that much better(not enough to justify the price) and they see the catalogue of games available for 360 that's gonna be the choice.

LiquifiedArt6386d ago (Edited 6386d ago )

Really think if someone wants a PS3 he'll just "SETTLE" for an Xbox360 instead of waiting alittle bit? Your all on Crack. The ONLY ones that it "COULD" happen to are mothers and fathers shopping for christmas, but the PS3 isnt a Childs Toy in the first place. But this will not bring the Xbox Sales up significantly, and if the kid wanted a ps3 he'll wind up getting it next year or at his birthday anyway, so unless its 1 for xbox and 0 for sony M$ loses the draw. :)Mind you Sony's target audience is 17-32 anyway. Its meant for Young Adults to Adults. aka people with cash.. $$$$

Boink6386d ago

Everyone I talk to is planning on getting one but waiting for gears.

LiquifiedArt6386d ago

Everyone i talk to, is planning on getting a PS3. Thats like 20 people. 2 of em own a 360.

TheMART6385d ago

Everyone I talk to is laughing over PS3 and Ken's stupid remarks.

Everyone in Europe think Sony sucks because of the delay and want Killzone 2/3 CGI in realtime in Gears of War in a few weeks and have soccer to play right NOW.

dantesparda6385d ago (Edited 6385d ago )

Hey KMart, I thought you said, that the developers said, that Rainbow Six Vegas runs at 60fps? LOL!! yeah right! more like 30 frames at best which drops down from there. Yuck! what a let down, GRAW was definitely better than this
oh and p.s. "the eye cant see a difference between 60fps and 30fps" LOL!
and "GOW looks so much better than RFOM" LOL!
give it a rest kid!
Just accept the fact that they both look good. Oh yeah, and "it doesnt look $200 better or $600 better" or whatever crap it is that you say all the time, you broken record you. and as good as GOW looks, it doesnt look as good as the Killzone CGI they showed in last years E3, but then again it shouldnt, thats real CGI stuff, whereas the 360 could never reach those levels. (and to all the PS3 fan, neither could the PS3)

Marty83706386d ago

Once 400k of PS3's have gone, there will more to come.A million PS3's a month is what Sony plan on making, shelves should be restocked by december.

THAMMER16386d ago (Edited 6386d ago )

Sweet dreams. Over promise and under deliver is the call. Gamers take the fall. Wake up the game is over.

dantesparda6385d ago (Edited 6385d ago )

dont forget, you could barely get a 360 until around late april/early may of this year. So you PS3 potential buyers better hope that Sony doesnt have the same problem, plus any recalls (which MS had alot of, I know cuz mine had to be replaced) will just slow it down even more

bilal6386d ago

cannot become market leader if it requires shortages of other consoles to sell...
it should sell independent of wether there are 1 billion ps3 available...but im afraid that 360 is not good enough to do that....

It was worrisome to begin with.

It's a niche genre with only a handful of hits that can stand the test of time.

CrimsonWing6917h ago

What’s to be unsure of!? Look at the ratio of success to failure!

DarXyde24m ago

It's pretty ridiculous.

Imagine having a breadth of data at your disposal to see the statistically low success rate of these games, only to be laser focused on the exceptional case studies.

shinoff218316h ago

Yes. Stop all the live service bs.

jznrpg15h ago

Only a few will catch on. You need a perfect storm to be successful in GaaS and a bit of luck on top of that. But a potential cash cow will keep them trying and some will go out of business because of it.

MIDGETonSTILTS1715h ago

Helldivers 2 manages just fine…

Keep production costs low… don’t just make custscenes until the mechanics and enemies are perfected first.

Make so much content that you can drip extra content for years, and the game already feels complete without them.

Most importantly: make weapons, enemies, levels, and mechanics that will stand the test of 1000 hours. This might require more devs embracing procedurally generated leveled, which I think separates Helldivers 2 from Destiny’s repetitiveness.

The Battle Pass Is The Worst Thing To Happen To Modern Gaming

Nameer from eXputer: "Some exceptions aside, I don't think the battle pass is a net positive for gaming with how they're implemented in most live service titles."

Battle passes AND meta gaming both.

DivineHand12518h ago(Edited 17h ago)

I like the way Helldivers 2 does battle passes. It allows you to make purchases on each level of the battle pass and gives you the option of choosing which item to unlock first. The more purchases you make using medals the further you progress. There is no timer and you can earn medals towards purchasing stuff via personal orders and Major orders.

I haven't played much live service games that have battle passes but I remember some games that have battle passes where you progress through it linearly using an exp system. What makes it really bad is that the battle pass will have like 50 or more levels with the cooler stuff being closer to the end. They also have an in-game shop that sells exp boosters so you can reach the end of the pass before it refreshes. Everyone ilse will have to grind their way through.

lucian22917h ago

battle pass in fortnite is perfect; buy one and it buys the rest for every other season as it gives you more money than the first cost. so 8.50 and season ends with you getting 13.00, it pays for the next and you have some pocket change to save up for cash shop. All of which is optional
