Wii U Needs a Giant Online Game That Takes on the Role of Pokémon

GenGAME writes: "How does Pokémon manage to find such a large audience over and over again? It’s because it combines a deep single-player adventure with fun, socially-driven multiplayer that takes full advantage of today’s wireless and Internet capabilities. It’s because the world of Pokémon is constantly expanding with new monsters, new regions, and new battle techniques that keep players training.

"Even if Nintendo’s having trouble coming up with a revolutionary game for the Wii U GamePad, they’ve always got another untapped option to consider: a deep online experience that does for the home console space what Pokémon does for handhelds."

I can kind of understand the idea that Nintendo wants Pokémon to be social as in people interacting with people directly... but let's be honest. Today, "social" means "online," not just "local play." They already put online battles and trades in...why not an online world, too?

A pokemon mmo would sell about a million wii u's in the first week around the world. Wake up Nintendo, MMO's and the Wii Pad's touch features are a match made in heaven!

Dno4331d ago

Can we stop with this pokemon MMO? Nintendo DOES NOT even have online on most of its console games!!!!

Nintendo will never take that next step which is why the wii u is under powered and selling like crap right now.

SO please stop asking they will never do it.

Pokemon MMO is an idea that only sounds good on paper.

Is anyone expecting anything less? It will be exclusive to Switch 2 eventhough it will still look like a 3DS game

Inverno14d ago

I think the 3DS games look better than anything GF released on Switch.

To be fair, The Pokemon Company operates quite independently, so it wouldn’t have been that strange for a Pokemon game coming out in just the 2nd year of the S2’s life to still be crossgen. I mean, just how long into the PS5 and SX life are we and we are still seeing plenty of crossgen stuff

not surprised.

nintendo was prepared to have some games sell the console.

im sure the game will still look like its from the ps2 era tho.

coldfire98413d ago

that is in part because of the chip shortage when everyone over reacted to sars in 2019.

Kosic14d ago (Edited 14d ago )

I've lost interest in pokemon, the mega evolve stuff was a poor digimon rip off, then the stuttering mess the 3d versions are.
I'd love a remake of gold/silver in a top down view like lets go pikachu had, but sticking with the traditional pokemon mechanics.

Uh, yea, that’s how console generations are supposed to work…
