still one of my favorite systems. Has probably some of the best shmups and arcade fighter conversions for its time.

It was a great 2D powerhouse in the time of the birth of 3D.

to me the closest comparison the xb1 and saturn have is their pricing announcement. Sega announced saturn at $399 and sony announced the PS1 at $299. Fast forward to today and MS announces the XB1 at $499 and sony announces the PS4 at $399.

that's really all there is to draw a comparison because unlike the Saturn, the XB1 will be easy to develop for much like the PS4.

Saturn was the boss when it came to 2D fighters. If only they had released the RAM expansions earlier on in its life-cycle. :/ The only console to have a 1st party pad with a 6 button layout and an awesome d-pad, it was perfect for these types of games.

I'm based in the UK and I remember seeing announcements for games like DOA and X-Men Vs. Streetfighter in the official magazine only to see they wouldn't be getting a PAL release. This happened with like 90% of the games released towards the end of its lifecycle.

But it went out with a bang with Burning Rangers and Dragon Force, think those were the last major releases before Sega binned it, sad times.

Agree, price is the only significant problem but it is a BIG problem. Like the article said they have to convice people to buy a more expensive console that is less powerful. Had the xbox one been $399, it would be competitive but $499 is game over imo

Sega didn't work with developers, and rushed the Saturn out to store shelves. The developers had not even gotten dev kits yet.

Bingo we have a winner. I know Sega wishes they could turn back the clock.

So, can't wait for the One to release this summer unexpectedly and months in advance without any information released. Good times.

It reminds me more of the Phillips CD-I. The whole all in 1 entertainment system thing.

Not even close to the same situation.
