1st details on ‘Chronos Materia’ — Atelier Escha & Logy developer Gust’s next JRPG

Sgcafe:

Chronos Materia. That’s the name of a brand new PS Vita JRPG that Atelier series developer Gust is working on next, the games maker announced this week through the pages of Dengeki PlayStation magazine.

The game is said to be a leisurely, light-hearted JRPG that attempts to approach replayability – a hardcore element of the RPG genre – with the sort of gentle pick-up-and-play nature of a social game. Gust believes that JRPG fans will find this approach to be quite refreshing.

Like with Gust’s other games, Chronos Materia features cute characters rendered in a style that fans have come to know and love. Vocaloid illustrator Non (who also goes by the psuedonym Nozomi Ousaka, and involved in the animation work for Love, Chuunibyou & Other Delusions) did the character designs for this title.

Materia.... Mmmm, FFVII...

Sorry lol, I get excited when I hear that word. On topic though, the Atelier games aren't bad RPGs at all. I just wish they had a bigger budget.

I wish they had a bigger budget too. It looks like the voice cast they are using are new people.

so GUST is now made of 2 teams?
well that would be great one for PS3/4 and the other team for VITA ^_^

10 Cancelled Vita Games That Should Have Happened

VGChartz's Adam Cartwright: "Despite great support from a number of developers and publishers throughout the past five years, ranging from tiny indie studios to huge AAA publishers, the Vita has still been a console full of missed potential with a number of genres and major franchises sadly missing from the handheld. While games get cancelled for every console in existence, the Vita’s lukewarm worldwide sales meant a number of projects never saw the light of day that would perhaps have been made had things turned out differently."

Bioshock would've been awesome to have on the vita. I also wish Silent Hill HD Collection would've made its way there.

Knushwood Butt2406d ago

I would have paid for Silent Hill if it had the original voice actors.

Yui_Suzumiya2406d ago

I believe Silent Hill HD Collection had an option to switch to the original voices

Darkwatchman2406d ago

The option for original voices was for one of the games. Not both, though I can't remember which had the option and which didn't

anyone here who owns a vita. get Ys lacrimosa of dana. holy hell it's amazing

Honestly, I didn't even remember about this game. Sad to hear about its cancellation.

AizenSosuke2935d ago

Sad to hear, but hopefully in the future it could come to PS4!?

gokuking2935d ago

They didn't cancel this game because they didn't think Vita was a decent market. Even if that was the case, PS4 would only be a worse one for a game like this.

Geobros2935d ago

The game announced 3 years ago. Sad to hear it has been canceled, I love RPG's!

tanukisuit2935d ago (Edited 2935d ago )

Had this game on my 'watch" list...

Hmmm, I hope it gets another consideration for another [game] platform, or maybe it will get absorbed into a future project.

gokuking2935d ago

They didn't cancel this game because they didn't think Vita was a decent market, so a new platform isn't going to change anything.

Fist4achin2935d ago

At least there are numerous other Rpgs coming out for the vita. Looking forward to Stranger in Sword City, Trails of Cold Steel 2, God Eater 1 & 2, and Caligula to name a few...

Take part of the name from the Chrono series, take a term from a Final Fantasy game, and make use of an obscure term or terms from a more obscure, yet cult jrpg (which in this case is Valkyrie Profile, i.e. Lezard's Valkyrie homunculus) and hey presto! You've got the title and some of the first concepts for your generic jrpg!

Oh and don't forget to style your characters in an archetypal manner and with the appearance of every anime character ever.

Ah, I know I'm being hard on it. Still though, this game looks extraordinarily generic.

Abriael3938d ago

It really isn't though. The concept is actually quite interesting, as the influence you can have on events by time traveling seems a lot more radical than in Chrono Trigger. Also the infinite replayability part is interesting.

As long as it's good and fun I don't care that it is generic. I'd rather have this type of generic than the brown+yellow+dark brown + grey + black = realism generic.

This better be released in the West. Well, since this is a Gust game, it's almost certain that NISA will release it. I wouldn't bet against it.

sherimae24133937d ago

gust's games are now owned by tecmo koei,
but still it will be localized for sure, after all tecmo koei is one of the biggest vita supporters in the west ^_^

DivineAssault 3937d ago

Looks good to me.. Ill be keeping my eye on this & hope it gets localized
