The Frostbite 3 engine has been a big investment for Electronic Arts, but the publisher is confident that it’ll pay off, so confident that the team working on it has grown to 75 full time developers from the original 35
Embark Studios : An update on what’s next from Embark Studios from our CEO and co-founder Patrick Söderlund.
Arc Raiders looks interesting. Glad they will get a bit more time to fine tune it.
From Eurogamer: "Longtime DICE and EA exec Patrick Söderlund quit EA last summer after nearly 20 years at the company - and less than 12 months after being awarded $20m to stay.
Now, he's shared a first look at what he's doing next."
Free 2 play “Dreams” game creator. I love it unless it’s ridiculous with the MTX.
Whatever it is, I don't like it and I definitely won't buy it. Suck on that, Soderlund.
Hmm, so his daughter still working for EA or just making big decision for that company ..
Top game industry execs are universally positive about the prospect of streaming services for games and believe they can expand the audience.
"The games created for those 200 million machines will soon be accessible to the two billion."
Why does my gut tell me that the quality of gaming is going to take a major nosedive when this happens? Probably because those 2 billion currently believe games like Angry Birds and Candy Crush are the pinnacle of gaming.
I don’t see that happening. Gaming as it is now is more accessible for people who don’t always have the internet and unlimited data plans.
If next big thing is 5 years or so away then maybe. Current mobile and public WiFi bandwidth and reliability will keep this from becoming mainstream for the time being.
Please, stop. I don't like how people are starting to shove online only/streaming down everyone's throats when national/worldwide infrastructures aren't universally stable enough, let along the negative effect of digital and the input lag streaming creates.
a beautiful, beautiful TRUE next gen engine (not that garbage that GHOSTS is throwing up)... can't wait to see the full 60FPS 64man action of BF4 and well as the other games using this engine..
Cool to see that the development team has grown with the Frostbite 3 engine, the results have been great from the BF4 demo we all saw at E3 and if it looks that good for a demo you better believe the final version of BF4 will look even more amazing.
I think my favourite (non-destruction) feature of Frostbite 3 is the animation system. I've always admired the the complexity of the animation systems in EA's sports games like Fifa and Madden, but to see that implemented into a first person shooter like BF3 and BF4 just blows me away. I remember DICE were touting ANT (EA Sport's procedural locomotion and animation system) as a big feature in BF3, but I feel it wasn't used as well as they originally intended.
Looking at the BF4 feature videos, singleplayer and multiplayer videos, it's clear that they've stepped it up in that regard. Player models in the multiplayer matches flinch and duck at near-misses, and the up close and personal counter knife animations looks great as well.
