Xbox One - We won, right?

Shanklish writes

"While Microsoft and Sony are sticking to the status quo, that means the industry will too. So expect more DLCs, more microtransactions, less risky IPs if any, and more spinoffs, prequels and sequels.

We wanted to be able to trade and buy used games, we can now. We didn't want to have to go online, we wont have to. We wanted to play offline, we can. So, I guess we did win. But we also cannot complain about expensive games, day one DLC and crappy microtransactions."

I beg to differ. We won't be seeing less risky IPs and more more microtransactions. It will be same as this gen. Take a look at Dishonered, The Last of Us, Beyond: Two Souls, Heavy Rain - which was major success..

- Heavy Rain cost €16.7 million to make and made Sony "more than €100 million"

Watch Dogs, The Division, Destiny, Rain, Puppeteers, The Evil Witin.. Shall I continue? Plus, If you actually believe that publishers will cut the price of new games, or after some time after release, for the sake of Digital Only you're bloody wrong.

Take a look at the prices of old games on Xbox On Demand.

The industry is FINE. Publishers who are whining about crappy sales should make better games and put more efforts if they want gamers to buy their products instead of flooding the market with mediocre games.

Blankolf1945d ago

Finally, you sir just deserved a bubble.

Livecustoms1945d ago

Well Said !, if publishers want Good sales stop trying to do a Call of duty and bring out something worth buying !

nukeitall1945d ago

Being able to sell your used digital games, would have lowered the prices on games on demand, because now there is competition.

Fact of the matter is that as gamers, we lost by whining.

What we lost are options, and now we stay in the stone age of physical media.

Thank you whiners, you ruined a great thing!

Even worse, you don't even know it. You are a sheep that held back the industry chanting the choir of old technology!

The Great Melon1945d ago

It's not like you can't buy digital games...

Imalwaysright1945d ago (Edited 1945d ago )

No one is forcing you to stay in the "stone age". Don't buy any console this gen, get yourself a good PC and roll with Steam which is 100 times better than what the xbone was going to be. You have options so stop... how is it? Oh yes whining.

angryraptor1945d ago (Edited 1945d ago )

Yeah - thanks for nothing cry babies! You killed the best features of the xbox one -all so things can remain status quo. Microsoft had a spectacular vision of the future in which we could share across the cloud and slowly but surely the industry would change for the better! Thank you sheep -we get another generation of being raped by the likes of GameStop and a landscape in which great developers are forced to close their doors because publishers do not see the profits required to float IPs that are not mainstream or popular like COD.

d0nT wOrrY1945d ago (Edited 1945d ago )

MS didn't have to remove family plan share, and they shouldn't. What's wrong with using this feature alongside physical copies? Isn't having more options the better?

The Great Melon1945d ago (Edited 1945d ago )

@d0nT wOrrY

Agreed. Don't see why they can't do it with the digital media.

Although, I wondered how the family plan was even sustainable. One of my friends was talking about how he would only have to buy one game per 10 people because they would just share each game among themselves. The family plan sounded like a nightmare far worse than used games for developers and publishers.

LoveOfTheGame1945d ago (Edited 1945d ago )

Family share plan could work with digital copies but I doubt they will implement something like that when you can't do it with the physical copy since there is no check in to see it is legit.

This change in policies may make people feel more comfortable, but it is an overall loss in innovation. The fact that some people still don't understand the features that the Xbox One would have had is proof of that.

Instead of one of the consoles next gen take a chance and try something new and interesting we have the 360.5 and PS3.5, the death of innovation sounds just like gamers clapping.

Too many people buying shooter games for the last 6-7 years

I'm glad Sony still deliver us Ni No Kuni, Uncharted, Beyond, and The Last of Us...

coolbeans1945d ago

The Uncharted games are shooters too.

IRON883 1945d ago

Well, all these IPs had to happen. It is the start of a new generation. We will see plenty of new IPs but eventually, Watch Dogs 3 would make it's way.

I'm not saying there wont be new IPs, there will be but there will also be more of what we've been experiencing.

nukeitall1945d ago (Edited 1945d ago )

I find this funny, as recently GameStop was hated by a loud group of gamers, developers and publishers.

When GameStop was about to get eliminated, and developers would get a share, it as fought.

Remember, as consumers we didn't win, we actually lost. You just don't know it yet!!!

Excalibur1945d ago (Edited 1945d ago )

No I don't think we've won anything yet, the simple fact that M$'s hand needed to be forced (and still does with the mandatory surveillance system Kinect) shows they don't have the consumer's best interest at heart.

The simple fact that all of this took place in the first place tells me all they have done is crawl back under their rock and are hatching new plans to be more subtle about screwing us in the future.

For now M$ has lost my business and Sony has won it, M$ is going to have to work hard to earn my trust and earn my business back.

Personally I think some firings need to take place and new management needs to step in that is pro consumer as currently that bad/anti-consumer mentality is still in place.

Livecustoms1945d ago

Nope, Still Mandatory kinect !

Foxgod1945d ago

Are you afraid to be watched?
If so, play offline, Kinect cant send a darn thing if your offline.

Livecustoms1945d ago

No it raises the price, my budget was £400 which is about $600 however due to VAT $500 is actually £429 which screw us UK people over
