E3 Impressions - Oculus Rift and EVR | Game Guys

The Oculus Rift headset has been making quite the impact in gaming as of late. Its ability to display a clear 3D image that wraps around the user's vision and submerge them into the experience has delighted many players. So far the support for the device seems to be tacked onto existing games. While the effect is good in those titles, it pales in comparison to EVR, a new title from CCP, the creators of EVE Online.

I get the sense that the Oculus Rift is going to be highly dependent on how many games are made that really make good use of it. It's almost like a console in that sense.

I could see this being fan-fuc*king-tastic for in-car view on Forza or GT. :D

Totally agree, if it sells a million then developers will not support it in there games unless it only takes a week to code into the game, just look at Sony MOVE, over 10 Million sold and you only get a handfull of developers supporting it, like KZ,Resistance etc. The tech is awesome but unfortunaly it wont see much use from developers imo, maybe 10 years from now it will be standard and included with your console, maybe PS5, Xbox one 2.

You really can't just 'code it into your game' - some games have done that (HL2) already and it's ok but hardly what VR/Rift was made for.

The best stuff for rift will be rift exclusive (or maybe have a special rift mode at least) because everything changes in there vs on a 2D screen, scale, speed, control choices etc. All of it has to be thought out properly and that's something I've wanted to happen for years. It would make even the simplest of levels in a game seem like a dream, just walking around, layer gameplay on top of that and we have the new crack.

The Rift is my true next gen device,

Hopefully it turns out well they certainly have got enough support.

Polysix4349d ago

The rift is THE future. Everyone should get one! :)

That's fine. GT7 would overshadow it anyway at it has open wheel and regular cars.

Should have been spending their time updating Squadrons with better resolution, frame rate, haptics, etc as there isn't a game like that on PS VR 2 yet.

But it's EA. They don't think.

Babadook7736d ago

I agree. It would sell better on PSVR2 right now.

Knushwood Butt737d ago (Edited 737d ago )

A wasted opportunity, but I don't buy EA / Codemasters stuff anyway. Grid Legends just came out on Plus and I haven't touched it. Why would I when I have GT7 and PSVR2?

Abnor_Mal737d ago

Not into F1 racing, but still a missed opportunity.

ApocalypseShadow737d ago

That's where opportunity presents itself that they could offer something else that other developers haven't offered yet. Yeah. There's No Man's Sky. But a space game with a story would be great. Like the old days with Colony Wars.

Abnor_Mal737d ago

Exactly, they could have possibly lured more players just from the inclusion of a vr mode.

I miss Colony wars and G-Police, Low-Fi I hope will scratch that itch when it releases. We also need a vr War/Starhawk game.

Knushwood Butt736d ago

Just watched the trailer of Low-Fi. Most definitely on my radar.
