EA: No change to discontinued Online Pass policy after Xbox One, PS4 announcements

That's exactly what I'm thinking. The last time they said it was gone, they announced that their new partner Microsoft was building the foundation for DRM. Now hat it's gone, they made this announcement again. Somethings up lol.

At first I thought EA were removing online passes because of Microsoft's choice on adding DRM to the Xbox One. Now seeing all this happen, it could be something more sinister. Either they're staying away from being voted the worst company again or instead of locking multiplayer, they could be locking on disc code like extra costumes or side missions for the people buying it used. I just want to say, if you want gamers buying your games new, you need to show respect and some type of appreciation in return. Instead of treating gamers as a number on a statistics/sales chart....

I can't be the only one scared of this....

When they first got rid of it, I said "whats the catch." Microsoft came out and said "No used titles"

Now Microsoft backed down, even after they said they wouldn't, but still have some hints of a few catches. So whats the catch? Where did MS go "lets just do it" FOR NOW, just to get some sales. Just because its gone now, doesn't mean its gone forever. They already tried once, they will try again.

the catch is they are afraid and can't risk ruining further more their reputation .

Granted they have the sports "junkies" (dont fret i'm one too) in their palm , in most cases and with a dire lack of alternatives , but for other genres ? not so much .

People hate them and most of their new ips dont sell . they managed to make Activision looking good .

They can't be seen so soon as yet again screwing with consumers freedom

I think this is why they killed online passes : MICRO-TRANSACTIONS.

Think about it, online passes only prevent second hand owners from accessing the multiplayer, thus preventing potential dlc sales.

They probably made their maths and realised microtransactions are the best way to milk us out & decided onlines passes aren't worth it anymore.

Just look at how EA games have been riddled with micro-transactions recentely. Only my opinion.

The average EA game is bloated with dlc schwag. They are making that money back either way.

Nobody was in favor of online passes. It was a desperate attempt to do things pre-DRM. And DRM has failed outright.

Screw the mentality that you should ever be limited when you purchase a game. I don't understand where they get off coming up with these absurd policies in the first place.
