The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds Hands-On [RPG Site]

Does the sequel to the SNES classic live up to its lineage? RPG Site investigates:

"Even if it does end up being a bit too samey, it’s incredibly hard to hate on the game - after my brief play session at E3, I was absolutely desperate for more. It’s a class of Zelda we haven’t had for years - and I am so, so ready to play it in full. It’s due out this November."

I have literally been waiting 22 years for this game. A Link to the Past is my favorite Zelda game of all time.

I really don't see the "samey" complaint.

My chief (read: only) problem with ALttP is the fact that the basic combat controls are, well, terrible. The sword's range is too short, it's arc too small, and frequently hits that should register damage do not. These poor combat mechanics have plagued all of the 2D Zeldas, and IMHO Nintendo didn't really hit the sweet spot until the DS games...

...Which in turn were hampered (at least combat was, personally I preferred stylus controls for all the non-combat stuff) by the stylus controls.

A Link Between Worlds looks like the first game to really do 2D combat properly, which is kind of surprising considering how long it's been since Ys perfected it.

...

But beyond that? The overworld does seem too identical to me. That's really the only aspect of the game that feels "samey" considering just how much the paiting mechanic changes things up (IMHO, it's the most interesting thing Zelda has done mechanically since Majora's Mask' time travel). Hopefully, they'll introduce some NEW areas into the game--maybe we'll get to explore a bit more to the North, East, South or West. That would be cool--more overworld is always a good thing.

...

My only real complaint game-wise is that the verticality and emphasis on jumping in the dungeon we saw struck me as too similar to Mario, but maybe that's because the last "new" Zelda we had was a Zelda-themed level in Super Mario 3D Land.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds - Classic Zelda turns 10

The Nintendo 3DS' The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds is now 10 years old, yet remains a remarkable experience.

Calling this classic feels so weird to me. It's still the newest game in the old style... hope they make another one.

I would love a remake of Link to the Past, one in a similar vain to Link's Awakening.

it was an awesome game and utilized the 3D very well on the 3DS. A Link to the Past is one of my favorite Zelda games, so this one being a true sequel to that title really hit home with me.

I bought this very long ago, and it’s still in my backlog!
