What Made Grand Theft Auto: Vice City So Special

IGN writes: "GTA: Vice City’s status is cemented: it’s legendary. A key pioneer of open world action, with a style like no other, and a soundtrack that’s beyond reproach. Released a mere 12 months after the astonishing GTA III, as far as sequels go they don’t get much more spectacular."

Ray Liotta, great 80s soundtrack, perfect map size, motorbikes, cool Miami Vice like story, Lance Vance, Jenna Jameson, evil psycho bad guy, without doubt my favourite GTA and one of the best games ever, i really hope GTA VI has the same impact.

For sure. So much style, it has an identity that stands out from the rest.

I'd still give that to San Andreas. I maybe a little biased though cause as I grew up on the east coast I was enamored by the west coast. I loved the west coast music, etc. So San Andreas hit my g spot.

You forgot to add humour, that and the vehicle handling made GTA 3 seem kind of ass, controversial opinion I know but that's how I feel.

The humor was so good.

I actually made a cassette tape of "Pressing Issues" with Maurice Chavez and listened to it in my actual car back in the day.

Vice City radio was brilliant.

Yes, yes, yes.

They really nailed that 80's feel.

Out of nowhere it became my girlfriend’s favorite game. She’d play for hours and watch me too. Had to marry her 🤭

"The profit of these tournaments is directly impacted by these new rules, as sponsorships are being forbidden, maximum prize money is limited to $5,000, and food/drinks can’t be sold at the tournaments."

Why even bother.

1 thing I've realized over the years is that Nintendo likes bragging about "fun", but it's "fun" how they see fit, and they often go against their consumers for the dumbest reasons. Just gonna do this stuff underground style, who are Nintendo to stop anyone from organizing community based tournaments anyway? How does this actually hurt em?

Michiel19895d ago

They've always wanted smash to be seen as a fun, casual game and nothing remotely competitive, which is in stark contrast with how Sakurai develops smash. He puts in so many little things to master for high level competitors. It's just sad, especially for the melee community. They kept the community going for 2 decades now even while all the time nintendo was trying to sabotage them.
