"Cue the most Epic Overture in game history! Ogre Battle had it all including a plethora of all the coolest ‘fantasy’ classes & beasties to choose from to build your army. It was one of the most complex RPG / RTS games." - Samson of Str N Gaming
The SNES was probably the best all-around retro console in terms of its game library and the sheer number of hits that were released on the system. It’s no wonder that these 15 games are just a few of the SNES games that hold up today.
Why do these sites always go for the obvious top 10 best Snes games?
There are tons of Snes games that are never mentioned and are still fun to play today.
Games like :
- Super Punch out
- Axelay
- Demon's Crest
- Saturday Slammaster
- Run Saber
- Sunset Rider
- Out of this world

One of Quest’s classics is getting a re-release on Wii U in Japan. Square Enix will bring Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen to Virtual Console on November 20.
IGN is now on the fourth day of their Top RPGs of All Time List. Today IGN are adding #40-21. Tomorrow IGN are adding the last entries to the list, and the whole list will be complete.
I'm glad that Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King is on the list. It's a fantastic RPG.
Another good entry on this installment is Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars.
Ys Book 1&2 #100, Lunar:EB #99, and FF8 is #97??? Yet Mario RPG is #21? That's blasphemy! Mario RPG was an entry level RPG that was very light on content. It is highly overrated.
Anyone who played Ys Book 1&2 on the Turbo CD or Duo knows it was special for its time during the early 90s. It had an amazing CD quality soundtrack, and voice and animation narratives that was not possible on the other consoles like the SNES simply due to the limited cartridge storage. http://www.youtube.com/watc...
I'm so glad Suikoden made in the top 50, ranking in number 44 by far one of favorite JRPG to this day and the first JRPG that I finish it.
Ohhh and Hey Konami, where's my SUIKODEN VI!
This game was truly epic, i only played it in the past on the psx, but recently finished the original snes version.
To me this is hands down the best franchise that square enix owns, it truly, truly sux that Square ignores so many awesome franchises in their backlog.
I'm a sucker for SRPGs. More games like these please.
Indeed, I spent many hours with this game attempting to get all of the endings. I can still hear every song from every map in my head.
