It streams Netflix and plays Wii games for my kids. That's it. I am disappoint.

Your narrow minded then.

Maybe Nintendo will be shamed into releasing official support? I wonder if the disc drive in a Wii u could mechanically accept a gamecube disc, aren't they much smaller than a normal disc?

deafdani3978d ago

While I don't know for sure, I don't think that would be a problem. The Wii reads Gamecube discs without any issue after all, so I don't see why it would be different for the Wii U.

I believe the Wii U is perfectly capable of running Gamecube games natively, because its components are basically an improved and supercharged version of the Wii's components, which were basically an improvement over Gamecube's components. That's why they have perfect backwards compatibility.

It's my belief that the Wii U currently doesn't support Gamecube games simply because it doesn't have Gamecube controller and memory card ports, because Nintnedo wanted to cut costs. I assume it would be possible for Nintendo to patch the Wii U's firmware so that it recognizes the Pro Controller, or the Gamepad, or the Classic Controller + Wiimote so we can use those as control inputs for Gamecube games.

However, I don't think it's gonna happen. I suspect that, even if possible, it wouldn't rank very high in Nintendo's list of priorities. :P

I'm still baffled by there short sighted decision to not use analog triggers which has been an industry standard since the GameCube. There's a whole generation of revenue they could have resold to there fans with little fuss oh but they excluded analog triggers now games like F-Zero Gx and WaveRace Blue storm will never work unless the games are modified. Honestly I think that this is the dumbest thing Nintendo has ever done saving a couple pennies up font but most likely losing huge in the long run pissing off gamers and developers alike.

Neonridr3978d ago

@herbs, while I would have accepted your answer if you had used simulation based games as your defense. A game like F-Zero has two speeds, stop and go, you don't need to slowly accelerate or very sensitively brake. Arcade style racers do not need analog triggers.

It's a shame that they didn't include it, but there's no reason why a Pro Controller V2 could be released down the road that may have analog triggers. Sure I would have loved them, but it's not the end of the world.

herbs3977d ago (Edited 3977d ago )

Neonrider you are correct in saying F-zero is a bad example and your right about arcade racers (Most Wanted Wii U is awesome and just as good without them) However WaveRace is in fact a simulation soo your rebutal is null also you are completely missing the point of my statement and cherry picking something irrelevant. Thinking they will revise the pro controller to have analog triggers at this point would be bad for everyone. If Nintendo adds analog triggers to the pro controller down the road they will piss off everyone who already owned one few people would adopt this new standard and developers would not add features to support it when it's just an extra accesorry that a very small % of Wii U owners use. Again your rebuttal is completely unfounded and you have poor grasp of the complexities of the game industry let alone my statement above.

I think it's better to leave games like AC: Amiibo Festival and Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash forgotten on the Wii U. Best case, they are mediocre games; worse case, they are very bad. It was a dark time for the Wii U, and the first only exists to sell Amiibo cards, whereas the second was put together in a couple of months with a shoestring budget, and it shows.

The rest of the list does have some really cool games, though. I would love to see a remake of Star Fox Zero with decent controls, and Xenoblade X doesn't require that much modification to work.

How would XCX work without dual screens functionality?

Cacabunga4d ago

Same as Paper Mario color splash. One of the best wiiu games and getting even better with dual screen. Same reason why i prefer Splatoon 1

This article leaves out Nintendo's most controversial game to date devils Third.
I personally found the cover system really fun in that one compared to at the time most fps games completely lacking one.

Stevonidas3d ago

Devil's Third is HIGHLY underrated.

repsahj3d ago

They should remake Starfox to the switch 2. Very beautiful game during gamecube days.

Kirby is always ignored or forgotten by people, so good to see it mentioned here.
Play Kirby Canvas Curse on DS, and then play Rainbow Curse on Wii U, they're really fun and unique 'platformers' without any actual jumping.
