"In case you have quite literally been under a rock, or in a Turkish prison for the last 6 years (you’d be better off under the rock); allow me to fill you in about the series: Call of Duty was a 2003 first-person computer game created by Infinity Ward, with a narrative set in World War II, which just happened to spawn a couple of sequels. 2 was a launch title for the Xbox 360, and kept the WWII theme of it’s predecessor. Soon after, 3 was released on many consoles, as well as launch title on the Playstation 3, and also had the WWII theme. From this point, you may or may not have heard of the series, because it was not very intrusive; they were just a trilogy of FPS’, and not exactly pervasively popular. Then, in the Fall of 2007, Infinity Ward released their Magnum Opus, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare."
MW 2019 is five years old at this point and on previous gen hardware, but it is still the best looking Call of Duty game to date.
MW was an excellent videogame. They messed up Spec Ops big time, but aside from this it was a huge step in the right direction initially. Most notably, at launch it seemed to come from a very cohesive creative vision that was felt across gameplay, to story to art style/visual direction. It was also very notably written by prominent ex-Naughty Dog guys that quit almost immediately before release.
That COMPLETELY dissolved through post-launch content and the full pivot to a "cross-mode" narrative that completely obliterated the cohesion in overall story direction. Warzone then "became" the new face of Call of Duty and the franchise completely removed itself from anything remotely creatively "good". It is a pure money machine, so I kinda get why they're doing it....but I personally completely lost interest.
I would love to see Infinity Ward move off CoD and get to make their own product with full control. They clearly have some massive talent in their ranks but it's perverted by Activision's corporate interests.
Recently, players of Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone were met with a new bundle featuring the B.E.A.S.T. Glove, inspired by King Kong's armament in the Godzilla x Kong movie. However, the $80 price tag attached to this themed accessory left many Call of Duty fans feeling underwhelmed.
Morons that allow themselves to be milked continuously by this company is the definition of irony.
Spend more $$ and you'll end up In easier lobbies so you win both ways when ya spend that cash
Controversy in the COD community feels like it happens within an alternate timeline. Activision will take the piss with something, there will be a momentary fuss about it, and then they will forget about it and carry on anyway. Repeat this cycle literally every year for the rest of time.
I'm so tired of hearing about what they're doing with this game, its never going to change and it's never going to value the consumer over money, furthermore the people who engage so heavily in the microtransactions I guess allegedly are having a blast and can't wait to do it some more this year when the new version of the game drops.
Following the Wii U and 3DS servers being taken offline, Call of Duty Black Ops 2 and Ghosts are officially dead.
I know one thing for sure, it brings in alot of cash but does nothing new to show why it sells so much & why its worth it. The series got stale after modern warfare 2. Its been the same game with added feats each new release but nothing close to ever getting GOTY. To those that love it thats ok, its your choice but your missing out on alot of better games just playing COD.
Playstation being hacked was the best thing thats ever happened to me, before then it was COD and nothing else. After, I played the uncharteds, resistances, kill zone, bio shock, etc. At this point I fear COD its like crack cocaine.
I really don't get why people keep pitting the 2 call of duties together as one game when they are really 2 separate games with just the same moniker... I was more into infinity wards games so it wasn't a "yearly release" for me. Even if it was, i wouldn't mind as i really like the epic scenes in the game. I'm not into multiplayer so i never bought it for that, and granted the story has been lacking each time but i have played worse (i.e. Bioshock, fallout 3,)...
hopefully with Ghost it will be a huge step forward as it was from call of duty 2 to 3: modern warfare.
First sentence:
"In case you have quite literally been under a rock,"
Ugh, I hate this misuse and abuse of 'literally.' Come on, my parents wouldn't know what the hell Call of Duty is and they don't "literally" live under rocks.

We all know people who wouldn't know the name of the franchise.
...But yeah, I wish the CoD thing would slow down. Gamers just keep buying the same thing, and that might be the bigger problem.
Tumor on the face?!....it's engulfed the entire head now, and hopefully working its way down to the heart where with any luck it will explode and end this black hole of perpetual misery once and for all.
Mouth breathing CoD gamer...."whoooaaa! yeah but look at dat sweet badass painted skull mask dat guy has! Im buyin' it!"
