We've Played Multiplayer in The Last of Us and It's...Different

We've been spending some time playing The Last of Us recently and as much as we'd like to tell you all about the game right this instant, it isn't worth breaking the embargo over and having Naughty Dog field agents swarming over the office faster than a Clicker can turn you into dinner.

What we can tell you, however, is that The Last of Us multiplayer is a very unique experience, and pretty different than anything else out there right now.

This should be expected, it's Naughty Dog after all, right?

So I would say that there is more then enough proof on that the single player is freaking amazing and that the multiplayer looks like a lot of fun. Also 2 review scores already gave it a perfect 10. I have very high expectations but it seems that I wont be dissapointed.

@newmonday Me too man! I've avoided all gameplay, and screenshots (aside from scrolling and seeing a thumbnail here and there). I only saw the reveal trailer (because I obviously didn't know what it was)

I kinda ruined Uncharted 3 for myself because I read and saw too much about it so when I went to play it, it was like just like... Yeah, I remember all of these parts... And it took a lot of the wonder away.

Funny you mentioned that, I have been avoiding all TLoU vids, scans... whatever! I'm actually torn over whether or not to play this damn demo. I mean I literally played less than 5 minutes of it before I cut it off. However, this itch is begging to get scratched man. Might have to breakdown and.... wait that's crazy talk must resist... ya see LOL

Yeah but all the reviews so far are still pre-embargo, I would advise waiting until the embargo lifts and the real reviews pour in before making final judgements.

That multiplayer looks awesome. Like something that would be fun for more than 2-3 weeks.

Trying to find supplies while being hunted while trying to hunt the others trying to find supplies is cool...That + survival mode.

the campaign looks great the multiplayer not so much it reminds me a lot more like Uncharted while the campaign not so much it looks amazing kinda disappointed with the multiplayer

Have to agree, the multiplayer footage shown didn't look anything like I had in mind or fit with what the apparent leak said.

It just looked like a standard 3rd person shooter cross between Unchartered & Gears of War. I'm hoping that was just footage from a skirmish mode though as Naughty Dog did say the multiplayer was industry game changing & that video from earlier certainly wasn't.

I really want some kind of survival mode with less gunplay than was shown in the previous video & the infected has got to make an appearance, I think it would be impossible not to, I'm sure better footage will come soon enough.

I was really hoping for co-op missions similar to Uncharted 3.

I will find it irksome if the season pass(which I am not purchasing until I see content) contains modes that were in Uncharted. That would make *me feel that that part of the game wasn't ready for release. Fully noting that the multiplayer was done by a seperate team.
Of course that is all conjecture.

I pre-ordered the game for the single-player, with hopes that the multiplayer would be fun.

So we shall see...

Edit: Also worth nothing is that this doesn't even slightly lower my anticipation for this release. As I said I am getting this for the story, and the multiplayer is a nice bonus.

I can't believe the infected aren't involved. Huge disappointment, if they're not still holding back the full content. It would make perfect sense to have team vs team vs infected. It creates so many more variables, and they could even have attacked players become infected. How could they not go with this?

There will be different modes. I'm pretty sure they have the infected in the multiplayer as well. They are still trying not to leak too much info. So far the only thing shown was human vs human.

I like how more developer companies are looking to break the mold with the cut and paste COD multiplayer and beginning to look into other avenues. Yes devs, re-incorporate teamwork into multiplayer instead of having red vs blue with each team having their own last action heros looking to win for the whole team. That stuff has gotten way old.

I can't believe they would decide to make multiplayer for this game and not have any modes with Clickers or Runners in them. Team Deathmatch is fine and all, but competitive and coop experiences with the game's main enemies sounds more interesting.

Luring a Clicker toward an opposing player by throwing a bottle or trying to kill someone silently with a clicker in the next room sounds more along the lines of what I was expecting.

Coop would also be fun. You would have to clear an area with a few friends, with each new area ramping up the difficulty, similar to a Horde mode.

And those are just basic examples. With some creativity, you could come up with a must have multiplayer experience. With what we're getting, it almost seems like the multiplayer team was understaffed, or had to cut a few of the modes towards the end of development.

I'm still holding out hope for more. The game will still be amazing, regardless. But I hope I don't have to wait for a sequel to get that kind of multiplayer.

Who said this sort of thing is not in the game. The site even says that it is different (but that it wont break the embargo), there is a likely chance that clickers or runners appear in some way, shape or form in the multiplayer. Of all the companies I trust to make a solid multiplay is NaughtyDog

No. It was a limited map, with PvP shooting matches COD style. Also, only 3 player team death match at that. AKA nothing special.

I think the problem here was someone in Neogaf wrote the bullshit rumor about the multiplayer being this grandiose open world free-roam co-op survival which raised peoples expectations to damn high. I think the two modes supply and survior looks great! fun, unique, and I can see myself putting 100's of hours. but this is a ND game and where it shines at is its single player.

You can always depend on Sony gamers to make knee jerk judgements.You haven't even played the MP yet and you are already griping and pissing about it. If the MP is as bad as you keep claiming it is it wouldn't be getting perfect scores.But I am not surprised.It was the same thing with Uncharted 2's MP.Everyone was ready to knock it down before they actually played it.
