Our Roundtable on What Microsoft Needs to Do at E3 to Fix Xbox One’s Mixed Reception

Frontburnr: The Xbox Reveal has come and gone, and with it, a lot of people are considerably less than excited about the Xbox One. On top of showing hardly any games, Microsoft didn’t bother to address many of the rumors or concerns we’ve been hearing about regarding the upcoming console, leaving quite a sour taste in the mouths of the core audience. But, hey, everything’s great if you’re a big sports fan or really have some creepy desire to watch TV through your video game playing box!

We’re all divided on how we feel regarding the announcement, so we’ve decided to lay our thoughts on the table for you.

Who do you agree with?

Annihilate at E3.

Which I doubt that they can do considering that they'll be competing directly with Sony at the event. They'll have to somehow completely overshadow Sony, who is riding high on a tidal wave of positive hype.

agentxk4412d ago

The bar is set pretty high for Sony. It will be easy for them to fall short of expectations. Not saying they will, but it's something to consider.

Microsoft on the other hand hasn't really shown any of their lineup and the details behind most of the have been under lock and key. Their original message was cloudy but we don't even have anything but rumors to base expectations on.

NBT914412d ago

They definitely fell short of expectations in E3 2006, everyone was wanting more info in the PS3 there and when we got it, they turned into a laughing stock.
Y'know, Giant enemy crabs, RIIIIIDGE RACCERS!, delayed in UK and five hundred and ninety nine US dollars.

abzdine4412d ago (Edited 4412d ago )

they should cancel the used games and spy kinect stuff, and on top of that announce some massive games during their conference.
I'm telling you, it's gonna be hard to top Sony's conference this year! a FF will be revealed and mostly Sony first party studios will make the show with their upcoming games. It's gonna be the strongest E3 ever! good luck Microsoft you guys are gonna need it. Let's not forget that PS4 will be shown and that only will create a massive hype.

If MS want to fix the initial perceptions of the Xone they need to clear everything up.
Stop all the confusion, be clear.
Show games.

Imagine if they say xbox live is free. I know they wont, but they need something like that.

KillrateOmega4412d ago

This.

They need to stop beating around the bush and just be clear when asked directly. Instead of having every other representative answer the question in his way, just send out one single, clear, concise message.

NBT914412d ago

No. It's not a competition. They don't need to be better than Sony at E3 to turn around the mixed reaction, just better than the One reveal event.

kreate4412d ago

if they truly want to annihilate at E3, all they gotta do is tell us xbone can be:

1 played offline with no restrictions.
2 no ads for paid members
3 there is no hidden fee or confusing system made for used games
4 Kinect does spy but its optional, u can play games without it
5 these are the games we want to show u (no halo, gears - but next year is halo/gears) <-- ok

*games should be 80% core games and 20% Kinect games

They'll do what they always do.Gloss over the finer details, pat you on the back with one hand and pinch your wallet with the other.

elhebbo164412d ago

1) announce that kinect is optional, and you can disconnect it.
2) triple A NEW ip's. a couple of them and not generic.

I doubt they'll do any of those. but who knows maybe they listen to ther fans...hahaha.

xxLuckyStrike4412d ago

@elhebbo16

Bingo! M$ could remove the lesser of 3 evils and soften their stance on DRM and always online. They'll Then drop 15 megatons on that A$$. *And possibly reveal something no one expects. (possibly a credit card scanner on the controller) lol jk

yesmynameissumo4412d ago

Games. Exclusive, 1st party, stunning games. No Kinect trash, just core "wow" games. But I honestly think that's gonna come from Sony.

DEATHxTHExKIDx4412d ago

All they have to do is deliver on games and Ill be good.

Ten Years Later - Still Going Strong: Dying Light: Retouched Update Releasing June 26

Hey Survivors! Tymon here, your favorite Dying Light Franchise Director.

It's been an absolutely wild month here at Techland! We're in the thick of what I'm calling the "Summer of Dying Light," delivering updates and big news across all three Dying Light games. Just a few weeks ago, we dropped the first gameplay for Dying Light: The Beast, revealed its release date, and kicked off pre-orders (if you haven't seen it, check out my last dev blog). I'm incredibly proud of what we're building with The Beast - it’s the culmination of more than 10 years of experience in open-world survival horror!

But here's the thing: we never forget where we came from. That's why, this week, we're not just looking forward - we're rolling out significant updates for both the original Dying Light and Dying Light 2: Stay Human. We promised to support our games for a long time, and we're committed to continuing that support, right through and beyond the launch of Dying Light: The Beast.

It’s really old now. All great MMOs decline.

PRIMORDUS1d 7h ago

Also who wants to keep paying a monthly fee every month, there are other options like Guild Wars 2 😁with no monthly fee and while not that many people overall compared to FF XIV, it did increase to about 21 mil now.

Sephiroushin20h ago(Edited 20h ago)

I prefer to pay since i do not like guild wars and it keep kids away, but FF14 decreased on quality since they started to make it "more accessible", tried throne and liberty and while it was okay it has so many issues, same for dune awakening... Its time to start making a new FF MMO

Time for the Final Fantasy 17 MMO

kaewcha7341d 8h ago

Looks like Square Enix is self-aware but still stuck in place, they see the player drop and apologize for the bugs, but nothing really changes. Shame, FFXIV used to be the gold standard

Servbot411d 6h ago

My entire free company has stopped playing. The writing has consistently gotten worse and the content is sparse and lacking; unless you are a hardcore player there's very little for you to do. They are over-catering to the people who will grind three+ times a week on a single fight for multiple months when the playerbase by large doesn't want that sort of content. Square needs to dedicate more resources to the game instead of wasting them on mobile and other live service slop.

The biggest factor for me is the way they butchered job design over the years , the casualization and over simplification really hurt a good chunk of enjoyment I used to have . Jobs lost any form of complexity and just became " press glowing button" DDR style for fighting where the gameplay loop is a about the 2 minute burst window . They removed most DoTS, timer mechanics , cast times, pets, RNG ect and all around homogenized everything . When you try and can cater to everyone ... you cater to no one .
