Penny Arcade Defends Xbox One's Used Game Fees

Gaming Blend "If you've been keeping up with all the news surrounding the Xbox One you may have come across a couple of gaming media websites defending certain features and functions that – according to Microsoft's own Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb – have not been entirely finalized. One of the more challenging pieces to read through has been Penny Arcade's summary of Microsoft's used game intentions."

It's sorta pathetic to defend somethingthat has yet to be confirmed.

It's been confirmed and it's bull crap:

"The bits that are on that disc, you can give it to your friend and they can install it on an Xbox One," he said. "They would then have to purchase the right to play that game through Xbox Live."

"They would be paying the same price we paid, or less?" we asked.

"Let’s assume it’s a new game, so the answer is yes, it will be the same price," Harrison said.

Phil Harrison really ruined the bit of momentum the Xbox was gathering with that interview. Everything went down the crapper with just one interview. XD

@wishingW3L

No this is good news for gamers, man. Can you imagine how terrible this would have been finding out about this AFTER the console launched?

When you think about it, had Kotaku never captured this quote from Harrison we would have gone into E3 never knowing about this and I'm pretty sure Microsoft's intention was to travel all the way to November keeping this as underwraps as possible.

Cat's out of the bag and a lot of people are better off for it.

forcefullpower2497d ago

Again they are blaming piracy and the person that suffers is the people that do buy the game.

Don't be supprised when the console is hacked and piracy is rampant what excuse will they say then.

Also that would be even worse for the legitimate consumer as the pirates will probably fix it so the machine does not have to be online.

Maybe Phil Harrison secretly still works for Sony and is attempting to sabotage Microsoft.

mrmonkeyhumper2497d ago

Way to only post what suits your needs.... The rest of the article says you can lend the disc and it will work but once you take your copy back they must pay to play....quit trolling loser!

What I don't like about this whole deal is they can now choose who they want to handle the used games market. So GameStop, who you know will be a part of this, will now have a bigger Monopoly than ever simply because they don't have to compete with ma and pop shops, or customers who want to sell on their own on ebay, amazon, craigslist, etc.

Or maybe what they could do is have it so you can take the disk to GameStop or whoever is authorized to handle used games, for a fee they can deauth the disk for you, this would pay the devs, then you can resell it. That way you don't have to accept GameStops crap offering.

Penny Arcade have been Xbox fanboys for years. I liked them better when they seemed to care more about the tabletop gaming scene and the PC scene.

lol is all i have to say.

I think PA is not looking at the broader picture. These sorts of restrictions and security mandates can potentially cause more harm than good and in that sense gamers have every right to both wary and frustrated by them.

Aquarhane2497d ago (Edited 2497d ago )

Can't wait until E3 has come and gone, after the event i will not have to hear a thing about this dumpster fire.

BlueTemplar2497d ago

Penny Arcade love pretty much anything Microsoft do.
