Source: Xbox One's Heart-Sensing Tech Not Microsoft's Idea

One of the more unexpected capabilities that Microsoft has baked into the forthcoming Xbox One is the new Kinect sensor’s ability to read your heart rate, which it does optically using a system similar to (or even based on) Eulerian Video Magnification, which is a method of taking standard video input and magnifying certain properties in order to find hidden details, like a pulse rate.

The story is too old to be commented.

Heart-Sensing Tech?
oh,we going from tv to hospital now?,cool -.-

Sandmano3473d ago

It seems their doing everything but gaming.

SDF Repellent3473d ago

Actually this is one of the feature of the Kinect 2.0 that really excites me. Imagine playing a horror game and the action on screen or how the AI react depended on your heart rate. It can be a neat idea for developers.

Another guy who didn't get the memo a month early that said console reveal for console, 2 weeks later at E3 will be about games.

I can't wait to see the turn around when exclusives are announced.

MariaHelFutura3473d ago (Edited 3473d ago )

STOP saying it was about the console, it wasn't. They barely talked about specs or anything hardware related. They showed an app for TV and faked using Kinect 2. The only redeeming thing hardware wise was they showed the console casing and controller.

JokesOnYou3473d ago (Edited 3473d ago )

Prvco, so when sony unveiled [email protected] use for the ps3 I guess the ps3 was just a research platform all these years, huh?

-Maria they said long before the presentation that it was going to be about the hardware/plans for the future, and that games will be shown at E3. Nothing was faked some guy saying "he put his hands in his pockets so it was faked" is just stupid especially when it would be a lot more convincing to just let someone off stage click a button.

MariaHelFutura3473d ago (Edited 3473d ago )

No. JokesOnYou. Yusef puts his left hand in his pocket right before EVERY SINGLE TIME he issues a voice command. Watch it for yourself. This isn't a debate.

As for the "it was about the hardware", they literally showed an app almost the entire time. This isn't a debate.

"It seems their doing everything but gaming."

That really doesn't make any sense. Some of you people need to come up with new material. Nintendo was also talking about the Vitality Sensor. With Kinect reading your heart-rate this could be applied to gaming. Think of fitness games and how advanced they will be now. Kinect can even measure the muscle expanding doing squats.

It's amazing how far Kinect has come in just a few years. The old Kinect just didn't have the response or accuracy needed. People who have actually used it notice a huge improvement.

Now that one will be out in every system it is far more likely developers will try new things.

Remember Nintendo at E3

"Nintendo Wii Vitality Sensor Is Nintendo's Second Heart Rate Monitor"

dcbronco3473d ago

I remember that. And then Nintendo dropped the ball on it. While they thought of exercise games that didn't fit their user base, I thought survival horror. Imagine a games where a enemy is coming after you and you have to pick a lock. As your heartbeat and pulse increase your hands within the game become shaky making it harder to pick the lock. Or when your character is running from an enemy. A higher heart-rate and pulse makes it harder to balance yourself. So sensing the heartbeat has gaming applications. Most are too short-sighted to see that though.

Im sure the tech is from another company. MS paid them to use it in Kinect 2 .0

Relientk773473d ago

Microsoft paid Microsoft to use Kinect 2.0

now take that in

mind f**k

Sandmano3473d ago

LOOL trying to wrap my head around it!

papashango3473d ago

It's almost like companies can pay to use someone else's inventions.

We should all burn down M$ HQ for this nonsense.

stage883473d ago (Edited 3473d ago )

Heart sensing? Because that's what gamers want.

Oh btw this wont work for sh--

mcgrottys3473d ago

actually they already have many demos of it working quite well.

KillrateOmega3473d ago (Edited 3473d ago )

On top of holding our games hostage and monitoring our accounts via 24 hour check-ins, they'll be monitoring our pulses.

They'll know you're lying, they'll know...
